Dragon Priest is a phenomenal deck when you can play it on curve- however, more often than not, the right cards don't come when they are needed. There aren't enough early game alternatives if you don't draw Wyrmrest Agent and Twilight gaurdian. I have made legendary with secret paladin and Handlock, but rank 5 is my limit with dragon priest, it's not consistent enough. Even in favourbale matchups such as against hunter, bad mulligans can be crippling and lose you the game almost before its begun. That's my opinion anyway, thoughts?
Well, some streamers have in fact made it to Legend with Dragon Priest, so it can be done. Personally I don't play much more than the required number of games to complete my daily quest so by definition I'll probably never reach Legend. That said, I think most control and midrange decks have problems if they don't draw on curve; I don't think it's a particular problem with just Dragon Priest.

Dependable loan sharks since 1960. We sink our teeth into every deal we make.
I have to agree, if dragon priest can curve out their early game with a dragon in hand it's nearly unstoppable. But the whole idea of the dragon mechanic is if you don't have one in hand, the cards end up playing out pretty weak. I'm sure it can reach legend, but it is dependent on draws due to the mechanic
Yeah. With a big dragon such as Alex in hand they are pretty much OP af. I played a few dragon priests and they just drop taunt after taunt after taunt. V annoying when you're playing aggro.

I agree, however i think this is particular problem for this deck. This is because wyrmrest agent is your only good two drop, as shrinkmeister is situtational. So if you don't get an twilight whelp or wyrmrest agent out you are often doomed as the deck doesn't really have any effective catch up mechanisms.
I use kolento's list but with -1 Velen's Chosen +1 Light Bomb.
Personally i think that this deck rates below other top decks such as mid range druid, mid range hunter, Tempo mage, Handlock and most definitely Patron and Secret Paladin. Mainly because of the aforementioned reasons; no wyrmrest agent/twilight drake in opening hand means you lose.

Well, that's part of your problem. Kolento's list isn't very good to begin with, and you've made it worse by cutting Velen's Chosen. That card is an essential tool in your early-game kit, allowing you to use a Northshire Cleric to secure the board against many opponents (including secret paladin, to pick probably the most important example) even if you don't draw into your Twilight Whelp or Wyrmrest Agent. It needs to be a two-of.
Shrinkmeister is a waste of space, as is Cabal Shadow Priest. They are effective in some of your weaker matchups (control priest, for instance) but make most of your strong matchups (like hunter and paladin) weaker. Always tech to secure your strong matchups, not to shore up your weak ones. If it's a control meta, just don't play dragon priest. If it's an aggro meta, play the best anti-aggro dragon priest you can build.

What list are you using? Some of the popular dragon priest lists floating around are terrible.

idk. maybe im just unlucky, they easily get their early minions within the 3 turns, and then they start buffing them and it gets really tricky for me.
