I was recently planning on saving up for a dragon priest deck, but many people are saying that its now bad in the current meta, and that aggro can easily counter it.
No. Dragon priest is perfect for the current meta. It crushes hunter, reliably beats secret paladin, and reliably beats the new cancer druid. As far as I can tell, that covers more than half of the ladder right now.
People rate it higher because it feels good to play the deck, you feel in control more than with fe: MidDruid.
Mid Druid has better winrate if you play both decks on same level, but you feel better playing priest. IMO What i mean by feel better is you feel you deserved the wins and didn't deserve the losses, with druid, patron, secret pala and freeze mage - which all perform better this week for me - you often feel like the scumbag in your matchups.
The tier stuff is nonsense. Just know what different decks are capable of and pick according to what you're seeing from your opponents. Dragon priest is an extremely effective anti-aggro deck. It absolutely cannot beat heavy control decks (control warrior and demon handlock are its worst matchups, but regular handlock, control priest, echo mage, etc. are also bad), but it crushes aggro and most other midrange decks. If you're seeing an aggressive meta, especially secret paladin and face/hybrid hunter, dragon priest is a good choice.
Whoever told you taunt....I mean dragon priest was bad against aggro, is insane. If you are facing a lot of hanlock cards like inner fire, holy champion, and lightbomb should help a bit and if you see a lot of control warrior, then try adding in more minions.
Not satisfied with it personnally, I regret spending the dust on it. It’s a great tournament deck, but really not as good for ladder. As much as people keep saying ladder is filled with aggro, you’ll run into control warrior/handlock/control priest/freeze mage very often, all of which are pretty much unwinnable and will put a stop to whatever streak you have. I’d accept that if the deck had guaranteed wins against secret pally, but even that matchup is only barely favorable; you’ll randomly lose it due to drawing your synergy cards in the wrong order. There’s also a whole bunch of people playing dragon priest on ladder right now, so you’ll get into mirror matches a lot, which to me aren’t particularly enjoyable. If you’d like to play priest, I definitely recommend you go with the control deck instead; while it still pretty much loses to the same decks, it has better matchups against aggro/secrets.

You've got it backwards. Dragon priest not a great tournament deck, because it's nearly guaranteed to lose against handlock, one of the three most common decks at tournaments. It's much better on ladder, where it has extremely favorable matchups against popular decks that nobody brings to tournaments (like hybrid hunter and secret paladin). It is much, much stronger against aggro and secrets than control priest—if you build it correctly, it should be an automatic win against any hunter and win 80% of secret paladin matches or better. Control priest has relatively favorable matchups against control warrior and handlock (still pretty bad vs. handlock), but it's not nearly as reliable against aggro.

Tempostorm has Dragon Priest vs Secret Pally as a 50-50 matchup, which seems correct to me as I lose a little less than half of my games against secret pally with dragon priest. Unless you curve out perfectly, keeping their board clear is difficult, and turn 5/6 Mysterious Challenger with an existing board is often gg. Meanwhile they have the Control Priest vs Secret Pally matchup as 65-35 for Control Priest, which also seems logical to me considering that deck doesn’t try to contest the board strictly through minions, but rather just packs a bunch of board clears and aims to power through Mysterious Challenger.

Is this true?

From my experience it has done well in this ladder. It is a good counter for aggro with early taunt in wyrmcrest
Iron Juggernaut
Its been aight for me. Handlock is still annoying as fuck though.
Dragon priest is tier 2 in terms of winrate.

What decks are tier one currently?
Handlock? Patron Warrior?

If you start seeingmany control decks, you might want to either:
1.) add a reliable combo finisher (inner fire/velens/malygos)
2.) add some of these sweet priest control cards (Mincontrol/etc.)
Whoever told you taunt....I mean dragon priest was bad against aggro, is insane. If you are facing a lot of hanlock cards like inner fire, holy champion, and lightbomb should help a bit and if you see a lot of control warrior, then try adding in more minions.
Thank you for all the advice, I will go ahead with my dragon priest

So long as you don't run into handlock after handlock it's fine. However I seem to get matched with nothing but handlock so....
F*ck you handlock, f*ck you
I returned to this game much like how a recovering alcoholic can relapse.
