Had today a game with a friend, we were testing the rng of confessor-paletress. well the first game in turned out to be pretty bad.
the second game we tried something about with garrison commander+ emperor, well you know you need to
1: draw in to the pieces.
2: dont get after that ,board wiped( brawl, equallity etc).
the second game was all about this, i did summon only shit legends( baron rivendare, blingtron) and he did summon, kt, antonidas, nefarian but only after a couple of trys( after turn 3) he got something good.
what is this thread about ?
well i want to know why priest isnt getting some love. i do own priest as a main class(favourite as you can see), but srsly.
Voljin is situational.
Velen is only good in otk priest, couse of BGH range( why the fuck is it a 7/7..)
and confessor is just worser sneeds. i mean come on without anything other minions, turn 9 5/4 body+ something random ? sneeds is 5/7 and doesnt even see that much play.
i regret it that i crafted her and can only apply to this who think about it > DONT craft her, its not worth it.
Yeah, I don't get it either. Warrior, already a top tier hero (both Patron and CW) gets a new amazing legendary. Shaman, perhaps the worst class, gets lots of buffs. Priest, perhaps the second worst class, gets this piece of shite legendary. I got her in a pack. tried her out, but she'll just sit in the collection alongside Velen. I do use Voljin though, great for removal.
I think that Dragon Priest is doing pretty well on the ladder right now. However, other priest legendaries are utterly awful, to be honest. They are simply too slow, but if meta shifts to control, they may become viable.
priest has already the card draw mechanic, might someone say, but its very situational and works only with massive combo plays : pyro , shield and Coh, so 4 cards to draw at least 3 cards.i dont like really like it.
and the issue with priest legends is always the rng factor. i dont get it why they dont make high health creatures( the new 2/4 2 mana card is a great example for a good priest card), thats why dragon priest is so good right now, or can become good
Vol'jin is an extremely strong legendary in a metagame where it has targets, I wouldn't consider dropping him from the dragon priest I've been playing in legend. And I also like paletress. She isn't something you just throw out turn 9. You have to play her in a control deck, and plan on playing her once you have forced your opponent to use their removal. At that point, she can close out games extremely quickly. She is also actually fairly good against faster decks where you have to heal yourself every turn, and can't afford to drop something like ysera.
Played: in most control lists, often combined with Holy Smite
So overall score:
Warrior: 2 played legendaries
Rogue: 1 played legendary, 1 good unplayed legendary
Druid: 1 played legendary, and maybe Aviana?
Hunter: maybe 1 playable legendary?
Warlock: 2 played legendaries
Shaman: 2 played legendaries
Mage: 1 played legendary, and quite possible Rhonin
Paladin: 1 played legendary, and maybe Eadric?
Priest: 2 played legendaries
Now admittedly, Prophet Velen can't be thrown into just any deck like... erm... very few class legendaries actually. Cards like Cenarius, Lord Jaraxxus, Tirion Fordring and Neptulon can be argued to be independently good. But actually none of them curve out anywhere near as low as Vol'jin and they are never seen in aggressive decks.
So overall, priest actually isn't doing that badly on legendaries. They may not be at the top of the pack, but they're certainly not hunter or druid. Talking about the class as a whole, you may have some valid concerns about its playability, as compared to, say, hunter or druid. But it certainly isn't about the legendaries.
Fun note: most lists of Grim Patron, the strongest and most popular deck on ladder, don't run any warrior class legendaries, only one neutral legendary (Emperor Thaurissan) and none or just one epic card (Shield Slam).
class legendaries and how often they are seen / how well regarded they are:
this !
But it is not just about legendaries, but class-specific cards in general. Priest is generally regarded as one of the weakest classes in HS. Most of the new priest cards are for shadow priest, which is universally regarded as a bad deck. Other than the 2 drop dragon synergy card, nothing has been done to boost Priest. Compare this to Shaman in this expansion. I'd like to see a bit more change in which decks and classes are "top tier". It keeps the game interesting. A strong legendary would have helped to achieve this.
Ryan, you definitely make a fair point that priest is one of the weaker constructed classes right now and it deserves some help.
I believe the only new shadow card is Spawn of Shadows, but with things like Confuse and Convert, they might as well be shadow cards for how unplayable they are.
I don't believe the problem for priest is lacking a big scary card with a powerful effect though (which is what 26 out of 28 of the current class legendaries are). Priests lack independently good 2-drops like Haunted Creeper in beast classes, Shielded Minibot in paladin and just about every 2-mana mech for a mech deck. Priests also lack end-game reach like Force of Nature + Savage Roar in druid, the Frothing Berserker combo in patron warrior and just about every card in hunter.
So I hope that priest can climb back up with cards like Wyrmrest Agent (possibly independently good 2-drop) and Holy Champion (possible win condition). But if they don't, it won't be the lack of a big scary legendary that is holding them back.
I agree. It doesn't need to be a big scary legendary. Something like a 6 drop 3/4: Inspire: Take control of an enemy minion until the end of the turn, or Battlecry: Give this minion to your enemy and take control of any enemy minion might have helped. Still highly situational, but at least a bit scary for the opponent. Both have an immediate impact and are significantly less RNG, and fit the control theme.
Paletress is much better than it gets credit for. It spawns another minion that requires immediate removal (around 70% of the time). It's a murloc knight on crack.
So far paletress has spawned me a Gruul, Antonidas, Ice Howl, Rag, and a ysera. Maybe I've gotten lucky but 90% of the legendaries are only bad cause of their mana cost. Considering each legendary only costs 2 mana with paletress, she can bring you back from losing or close out a game.
Paletress is by far my favorite legendary and has proven more reliable than Varian Wynn (who usually u play on a losing board and pray to draw Belcher's.
She's a staple in any priest deck I build, and by far my favorite class legendary of the tgt expansion (I was more excited for Varian but in play testing haven't been amazingly impressed)
I agree, I run a midrange priest with paletress and she was won me games that were close and brought me back in games I would probably not have won but were close. She can't cause a huge swing but in close games makes a huge difference. Also she is the reason control priest is possibly the best control vs control deck period (believe this use to be paladin but could be wrong been a long time since seen control vs control).
Worst card I've pulled from her has been millhouse... which actually was enough to still bring me a win in a close game that porbably would have lost without her. I've also gotten hogger (which is a total of 11/10 worth with a taunt and both it and hogger have to dealt with), a ysera, a gruul, varian, fizzlebang. Only bad draws are really lorewalker cho (which can still be ok) edwin vancleef thalnos and nat pagle.
currently running her in a midrange control priest, so far, i have gotten antonidas, saraad, icehowl, hogger, flame leviathan, foe reaver, thermaplugg.... they are pretty game changing.... i m waiting on the day i summon a rhonin....
Please include your rank when you say you include Paletress in your decks. She is mathematically worse than Ysera and does kind of the same thing as her UNLESS you somehow manage to squeeze her effect out twice when she is first played.
Not really, dream cards are ok, but not as good as a big body and a possibly relevant effect. Pure stat wise ysera is a total of 16, so as long as she pulls something with at least 7 stats (so any 3/4 or better) she is as good stat wise.
Yes she is easier to deal with, and yes the effect is slightly less reliable, but it also has a chance for you to get something better than any dream card as well.
Priest is not a weak class, is an inconsistent class. Most of the priest class cards or just the played priest cards are completely useless unless you combine them with another minion/card or just give you random stuff.
Circle of healing, inner fire, mind vision, northshire cleric, Divine Spirit, Resurrect, Thoughtsteal, Velen´s Chosen, Mind Games, Auchenai Soulpriest, Vol´jin, Prophet Velen, Light of the Naaru, Lightspawn.
Many priest cards require another cards in hand or in play order to do something useful.
This. You also forgot dark cultist, pw: shield, twilight welp, wyrmrest agent, shadowfiend, upgraded repair bot and temple enforcer.
Most priest cards have to be used in conjuction. When you can pull it off they are supremely powerful however, if you have the right combo at least.

I'm using her in my dragon priest and she puts in work =) eating up removal and making it safe to play Yesera. Currently rank 7 going on rank 6
