I don’t like playing against Priest and the reason is that every game just feels so random. They just generate random minions and random spells and it’s almost impossible to play against because you have absolutely no idea what to play around.
Sethekk Veilweaver is one of the most obnoxious cards in the entire game if you ask me.
I’ve never enjoyed playing against Priest because I hate playing vs Combo decks in general so I was really excited to see them announce that they were taking the class in a different direction. And they decided that complete randomness was the way to go.
Resurrect is also pretty unfun to play against.
Mage is also guilty of being annoyingly random at times, but I don’t think it’s even close to as bad as Priest.
In terms of when I'm playing against priest, the main issues I have are with Thoughtsteal combined with Madame Lazul which can just give priest a lot of really solid resources. (I kinda started playing Highlander decks just to improve my priest match up) The other big issue I have is with Convincing Infiltrator. It just shuts down any and all tempo and lets the priest often get way ahead of you.
I don't think Sethekk Veilweaver or Galakrond are an issue at all. They give priest more of his own resources. Sethekk Veilweaver can maybe chain a few too many times and gives priest a huge card advantage. But I don't think the random aspect of the card is the problem. Sethekk could maybe be bumped up to a 3/4 for 3 or a 3/5 for 4 and be maybe a little more reasonable in terms of card count.
Thoughtsteal I think could maybe be bumped up in cost, but give you another card. 4 mana for 3 cards or something. 2 mana for 2 cards is just such an efficient net gain in terms of card advantage and eventually you just start stealing the synergistic stuff in his deck when it's that easy to steal cards.
Convincing Infiltrator should be like... 3/8 for 8 or something. It's just so cheap for it's effect.
I'm sort of wondering if there's something I'm missing, or if there's a way to play around this, though too. I suspect maybe my decks are built to be a little too slow.
I’m most tournaments I play in, Priest rarely sees play because it has a suite of really bad Aggro matchups and can’t counter the decks it needs to counter (ex. Warrior) regularly enough. That being said, it’s value generator is needed to counter standard midrange-y to control decks (namely said warrior.)
also, blizzard said that they’re moving away from the “Discover clown fiesta” style of gameplay for Priest. That should help.
Priest will always be a cancerous class until Blizzard stops pushing archetypes like resurrect, card steal, minion steal and infinite discover value. This doesn't need to be the priest class identity and it's evidenced through years of feedback how much people hate playing against these archetypes. It's fairly balanced and I'm not saying it's too strong, just not enjoyable games.
For whatever reason though it doesn't look to be changing any time soon so we must continue to endure it.
Priests aren't the problem. Card generation is. Priests would be absolute trash right now if not for card generation.
You've missed the point. People aren't complaining about the strength of the class but rather the enjoyment of playing against it. But yes priest's ability to generate random cards is part of the issue amongst other reasons.
Delete this thread mods, Jesus. Just a bunch of angry man children circle jerking each other over priest, a class that is completely fine lol. Priest isn't going to be deleted nerds, sorry
It's a kind of balance that they should consider. Not just power balance but fun balance. I literally queue casual just so I can veto priests.
Mindrender Illucia is a bad card for the overall experience of Hearthstone players. Every time it's played against me I want to quit Hearthstone. I don't know if any card has triggered me like it does. "Thief Priest" cards like Thoughtsteal are fine and synergies with that would be welcomed I think but Illucia is the kind of card that is a net negative experience-wise. If it's fun level for priest is a 6 its unfun level for opponents is an 11.
The problem with Priest is that they've given it ridiculously little card draw. Like basically no card draw. So Priest is stuck in archetypes that can succeed without card draw. That's very narrow. Right now basically just Galakrond with the card generation. They gave Priest tools for a tempo deck but without card draw it cant work.

Exactly. I don't even play priest any longer... I moved on because I wanted to try something new, and don't find them to be insane to play against. Just figure your shit out.
Resurrect in and of itself is not the devil but it needs to be kept in check. Either no resurrect or no Convincing Infiltrator type cards. It's just not worth it. Net wayyy negative for overall player experience. Card generation, including from cards in opponent's deck, is fine. It can low roll or high roll and it's got nice variance and flavor. It's a nice central theme for priest that can be branched out from.
Stealing minions gets on dangerous ground but there's nothing that OP that priest can do with that right now. Acolyte is random and requires a few conditions to be met to ensure you steal a big/key minion. Mind Control is 10 mana. The classic one is targeted but has to be combo'd.
But stealing cards from your opponent's hand and blowing their plan up with no counter--with just one card--is going too far.
I've been playing priest since beta, back when priest was a complete joke. I've laddered with Naxx Aggro Priest, Noxious's Randuin, Dragon Priest during BRM, and then Control/Reno Priest until Raza became a thing.
Since Raza onwards, priest has been stuck on a pendulum of getting an unfun identity which is pretty much the only way to play, to then having that archetype gutted, leaving you wondering "how the hell is this class supposed to win?" until the next unfun identity is realized. Priest and Shaman share a lot of similarities in many regards, and I consider them the two bastard childs of HearthStone.
It's a shame the OP made the title this way as it comes across less constructive.
I'm watching Thijs now and he's saying himself how much he dislikes Mindrender Illucia as a card. He ends up conceding against the priest because he doesn't actually want to play it out because it's so long. Shouldn't be this way.

That card should of never been made. Other than that Priest is fine.
2mana destroy your opponent turn and win fatigue war is broken. Control decks are basically dead because of this card. One card win game is not healthy especially at 2 mana.
Has anyone actually had this happen? Makes very little sense to me... If a Priest takes my control deck hand late game, and has 8 mana left, there's a decent chance they can only play 1 of the cards in my hand... If losing 1 card from my hand loses me the game in a control deck, I was probably going to lose anyway.
I think what you meant to say, is you hate it when Illucia steals your DH hand and plays out all of your cards in a turn.

Since I put Treachery+Doomsayer in my warlock decks, playing vs priest become fun.
Yes, would be actually healthy for the game.

Well seems you don’t play grandmaster tournaments then. Priest is in a lot of grandmaster line ups at this point so the class must have some merit
The only problem I see with priest is that quest priest takes so long to beat. Sit there afk for 20 minutes until fatigue then nuke em.
Noted
