Mass Hysteria isn't reliable in that you can't be sure which minions survive. Brawl at the very least ensures only one minion survives. In many cases you might be able to setup the board so that Mass Hysteria has a higher chance of getting a good result but it remains RNG on what attacks what. And that makes it unreliable. The opponent can also partially work around it by playing minions with specific attack and health numbers. Brawl will always clear except one minion.
Oh come on, I promisse you, that priest can become the most canserous class of the new expansion. Combo (inner fire) and silence. Or maybe not) But i think, that it will be like this.
Yeah funny thing, I don't want to play Wall/Big/Inner Fire Priest. I actually, genuinely like playing Dragon Control Priest. The only other Priest deck I really enjoyed playing was my own Eggmancer deck. All these gimmicky flip-it Priest decks just don't do it for me. I get no fun from just holding off my opponent for 20 turns doing nothing but playing 1 or 2 specific minions with high health until my opponent literally runs out of means to get rid of them and then flipping their stats for an OTK.
I have no problem with some kind of combo deck. Dragon Control Priest in itself tries to kill you at some point in two turns with Alexstrasza and then Mind Blast. But it fights for the board until it does. It plays minions and interacts with the board until it does. Stuff actually happens for both sides. Playing that type of game is what makes Priest fun for me.
And this expansion hasn't given a lot to allow that type of deck to continue after the rotation. No neutral (or Priest) Dragons were added and several important Dragons are rotating out. Maybe there is a chance for some of those Silence minions to fill the gaps but I'm worried about what type of Priest decks will be viable outside of the decks that are just zero fun to play (or play against).
Too bad you don't talk about shadow priest. Which is basically my no 1 wish for priest. Unfortunately they won't ever support it enough for it to be a meta thing.
The issue with Silence Priest (that I can see so far) is that you'll be painfully dependant on getting the right cards in your hand. What if your Silence cards aren't in your hand? What if the cards that need Silencing aren't in your hand? You'll have a whole bunch of cards in your deck that are dangerous or useless to play on their own.
Isn't this issue with most of the decks? I see that there are plenty of cards in silence priest deck to play even if you do not get like turn 1-2 best plays in the begining.

I do not understand why you compare (rank) these two cards. The other is available for Priest the other for different class. Mass Hysteria can even be better than Brawl with full board clear, not a single of you own minion dying. There are randomness in both. Maybe Brawl will leave up the one minion in full health you would liked to have die. Cards are different, they are for different classes. Certainly Mass Hysteria is good board control for wide boards, Priest have other tools for one single target removal.

I was responding to Tymke who made a reference to Brawl. Hence my response. Not saying Mass Hysteria is bad. Not at all. But it won't always give you a good clear. And there will be times where a bad Mass Hysteria loses you the game. And that makes it less of a reliable board clear. I'll still put it in most (if not all) of my Priest decks for the simple reason that Priest doesn't really have anything else other than maybe Holy Nova.
Everyone is hyping Chef Nomi in rogue... but i wonder if could become a win condition in priest combined with Seance
And it looks like it actually works. Still day 1 but the condition wins everytime if the games get there. Tempo rogue and BoomWarrior are bad matchups but looks solid vs everything else so far.
As it looks right now priest will be hit the hardest in the coming rotation if they don't receive any decent cards in the next expansion. Button tier for sure.
If you ask me priest will be unplayable in higher ladder in standard.
unfortunately my fear become the truth. No viable priest deck in ladder currently. But everyone could have seen it coming when 2 out of 3 mass removals (Duskbreaker and Psychic Scream) are rotating out and nothing comes in return.
Yep, RIP Anduin. i tried 2x Pyro, 2x Mass Hysteria and 2x Auchenai combo and still isn't enough. Druid has too many token generators.
Well, i think thats it for me. I was hardly playing the game since the Baku nonsense and now they are pushing the same archetype to druid, but this time we don't even have the removals. It was a great game while it lasted, made many friends over the years but its time to move on.
Wish you guys who still enjoy the game all the best!
Everyone is hyping Cheff Nomi in rogue... but i wonder if she could become a win condition in priest combined with Seance
And looks like both my predictions were right. Seems like Priest is currently unplayable due lack of AOE and Nomi is the best Anduin can offer in standard. I never wished for priest to be tier 1 but Blizzard REALLY dropped the ball this time. I saw what was comming 5 months ago. Other sites/players saw it as well. From my point of view, Blizzard is either being incompetent or they just don't care. Probably both.

They are not incompetent. They just dont want to support Priest control tools right now. This his happening for long time and priest is not the first class that become "lets puch something different each expansion in this class untill we get to something interesting and stop right here for 1 or 2 years" The first one was hunter and right after was Warlock AND after was Shaman.
Dev team have a clear mind about this stuff: not like to support evergreen decks for each class in the game. So for example in some point they will stuff supporting elementals and minion care spells in Mage. Spells in hunter. Taunts in druid. And change to something more diverse for a time and people will notice how X or Y class become weaker. It has some logic i guess even when i dont like when they do it for more than 2 expansions in a row.
As i see, if we have the option available to play with a class but can't because its way too weak due design changes, then that is a flaw. Allowing a flaw when there are better ways to deal with the issue its a mistake and doing mistakes on purpouse is the very definition of incompetence.
Priest was botton tier many many times in the history of this game, and not once i complained about that. But its the second time a class became unplayable (Shaman being the first in the Face Hunter era) and mistakes like that only happens when they screw up BIG by giving a class too many tools and not enough answers to others that are weak to those mechanics.
After 5 years of experience is just inconcivable they are repeating mistakes like that and not even addressing the issue. Its healthy to have "Power" rotations between classes. "Playability" rotation its not.
The problem is that, due to its class identity, Priest "feels bad" to lose to when it has a strong archetype. Like it or not, Priest is the combo class. That's how Team 5 has been designing it, and that's how it wins when it's strong.
(I don't necessarily mean OTK here. Even a play like Divine Spirit + Inner Fire on a high-health minion counts as a combo play, and these types of plays have been a defining element of the Priest arsenal since the beginning.)
Other classes seem fairer when they beat you, so Blizzard doesn't worry when they dominate or become legitimately oppressive. I'm referring mostly to Hunter and Warrior, which seem to get free passes every time this happens.
As long as Team 5 makes balance decisions based on what feels bad instead of what actually is bad, it would be unwise to carry a torch for a class like Priest.
I've had some success with quest priest in Uldum, but it basically requires not playing the quest on turn 1. Playing the quest early, just leads to people waiting until they can overrun you as they refuse to trade or damage your face. Obviously a tactic that will not always work especially if every priest does this trickery.

Objection!!!
On which minions do you use Power Word: Replicate ? Archmage Vargoth ?
I don't see a viable deck outside of Resurrect Priest on standard. Until someone starts playing Mad Summoner...

Control Priest got completely butchered, Hunter can outvalue it and Warrior can out tempo it.

Seems like what my buddy said is true. If Priest isn’t viable it’s a good ( decently balanced) meta.
No stupid otk shit , no "your minions doesn’t matter cause i steal or scream them" bs, and not only extreme aggro decks to counter that.

After two days of the new expansion, we can safely say that the priest will be trash tier again.
Thanks, team 5.
