Lol wow, the first 3 cards you mentioned are what makes priest good right now. You have no damn idea.
Power word shield not an auto include? Has there ever been a priest deck that hasn't run power word shield? And it even got way better in un goro.
I feel like this must be a troll post, since purify priest is arguably the best priest deck in the game right now.
Purify Priest is a Tier 2 deck, at best, and relies on a perfect mulligan to pull off correctly. Not my playstyle.
As for PW: Shield - why does anyone think this is a good card? You get 2 health and a card. Whoop-di-fucking-do. Even if you were to use this on the Vorax, it would still be a shit card. Waste of a card slot unless you use pyromancer.
The card is already value because its the only card that draws a card for 1 mana directly, but it also boosts health on your minions (which is really good in priest if you knew how to use the "crappy" Northshire Cleric and Acolyte of Pain you mentioned).
EDIT: Also while Lay on Hands is a valuable card, you need to remember you spent 8 mana on that. If you didn't already have something like Aitesh equppied you did a whole lot of nothing, and are probably still losing, which is really bad if you're a priest which is reactive by nature.

The problem with PW: S with Lyra, is that it generates 2 cards instead of one, and you end up milling yourself 80 perfent of the time, thus losing the value you just gained. It's really quite annoying. The same effect occurs with Mind Vision. Unless you have less than 5 cards in your hand at the time of using Lyra, these are not suitable synergies to use with her.

Lyra creates cards, not draws them. Therefore you aren't milling.
Also if you use Lyra with a hand of 6-7+ cards then burning your cards was your own darn fault.

...What? I don't know about you, but this is a rare situation and it also signifies that you have insane value in your hand already and don't need extra cards from your deck to win. PWS is in all actuality, one of the best cards to use with Lyra. Also, you GREATLY underestimate the power of PWS. At worst, you cycle which is incredibly valuable in control and useful in any deck to get to your most powerful pieces as well as increase the consistency of any deck and most of the time you pay 1 mana, draw a card and create better trades on board for yourself. PWS is one of the few cards I would probably play in any style of deck in just about any class and the added health is more significant in priest because of the hero power. THAT is why people play PWS.

I can't even begin to tell you how wrong you are.
Tier 2 means tournament caliber. There are a ton of Tier 2 decks in competitive play. You not liking a deck doesn't mean shit. I can not like any deck I want, it doesn't mean that it's good or bad.
2 health and draw a card. It draws a card. Do you understand what that means? That means, its the same as having a 29 card deck, because the card pays for itself. The only downside would be the 1 mana cost which is 0 with radiant elemental.
Radiant elemental into power word shield is a 2 mana 2/5 draw a card. A cleric with PW shield helps gain a good amount of card advantage.
How long have you been playing? Cleric and PW shield has been run in every priest deck that has ever existed. But you're right, you know more than the pros, the pros that you're saying dropped priest.

The pros dropped Priest, in general, because he can't cycle his deck. That's exactly why I created this thread. In order for the priest to be viable, and by viable, I mean actually being able to kick other classes in the ass and see competitive play, he needs card draw other than what he currently has.

I honestly haven't seen any pros ever complain about card draw with priest. That's one of the things they are very good at. Card draw is probably the last thing people want for priest. You seem to want it to play garbage like shadow word horror.

Priest isn't shit though and pros still play the class...both dragon and silence priest are solid tier 2 decks and the class actually has no issue drawing/generating cards...PWS, Cleric, Lyra, and most importantly shadow visions work as powerful draw tools that allow a priest very flexible options in dealing with opponents.

You say you started out playing priest as your main, but yet consider cleric and PWS garbage?!?! Those have been the staples to just about 90% of every priest deck constructed. Do you not understand that for 2 mana, you can literally have a 1/5 card draw machine? You don't even have to heal the minion yourself for cleric to draw a card.
Even in late game, you can drop cleric, heal a damaged minion, and then play PWS for 4 mana. It's not hard to have a damaged minion unless you're playing against a warrior, but even then, you can always trade and find yourself with at least one damaged minion. 4 freaking mana gets you 2 cards, 2 health, and a 1/3 body at minimum. Drawing a card by itself is worth 1.5 mana, so now with the extra card drawn, that bumps to 3 mana just for the card draws. You still got a 1/3 body and 2 health to distribute to whatever minion you want to trade with or just make beefier.
This isn't even taking into account that the enemy isn't going to just ignore your cleric because he/she knows how insane the cleric can be. So in early game, you're going to make your opponent waste a Fiery War Axe, Eaglehorn Bow, Rallying Blade, Feral Rage(maybe), Frostbolt, Shadow Word: Pain, Wrath, etc.. That's just some of the efficient ways of clearing it.
The point is, that priest doesn't have any issues maintaining a healthy amount of cards and it's mostly due to having both cleric and PWS. Legit staples in any priest deck. I've tried not playing with them, and still had to go back and add at least one of each.
Besides that, priest are truly the utility class, and depending on what deck you play, will factor in to how you choose your draw engines. If you wanted to, you can add Kabal Chemist and Kabal Courier to add cards. Mind Vision and Thoughtsteal. Both deathrattle minions give you cards. If you can't maintain at least 5-7 cards as a priest, then you're mostly playing wrong, unless you have a rare circumstance where you had to dump your hand to eliminate a threat(s).
I can't believe I'm reading these comments from the OP. Go play rogue if you want to draw 400 cards a turn. Priest draw options are fine. If you want to draw more, go into wild, throw in Injured Kvaldir and Injured Blademaster with Circle of Healing, Wild Pyromancer and Northshire Cleric. You'll be drawing more cards than you can handle. I milled my friend who was also playing priest on T4 with this deck because he was stupid enough to put two Clerics down right away.
Also, you're a year late on the "whine about Purify" hate train. It's not useless. It never was and people were just bitchy and didn't have an open mind. I used it regularly to climb with silence priest before JTU made it an actually good deck. PW:S is an amazing card that any class would be lucky to have. You complain about not having AOE when priest has gotten tons of AOE cards (Holy Nova, Excavated Evil, Dragonfire Potion, Circle of Healing with Auchenai, Lightbomb) and the most valuable healing cards of any class. And as for claiming that priest always gets shafted on cards, have you seen what rogue has received over the past 3 years??
Priest has a better Sorc Apprentice, the best 3 drop in the game, huge combo potential with Inner Fire, Dragon-fucking-fire Potion for massive clears, PW:S (which is amazing), Lyra the value machine, and Drakonid Operative (arguably the best 5 drop in the game). Priest has that neutral minion for generating more dragons and Shadow Visions for digging for your removal. They are not nearly in as bad of a place as you say.
Lol, Dragon Priest was played so many times in tournaments and is still played on ladder (not as good but not bad either).
If you think Priest has bad cycle then you've never played Hunter I guess.
Everytime I play against Priest I hope he doesn't have t1 cleric. PW:S is good enough cycle for it's cost. Arcane intellect draws 2 for 3 mana.
All of us could help if you just said which deck you want to play, because otherwise this post seems senseless no offence.
Look at other classes, what do they have?
Hunter has zilch, Mage has Intellect, Paladin has Lay on hands and divine favor, warrior has shield block, Warlock has hero power and Doom, Shaman has mana tide, Rogue has mimic pod and thistle tea (Auctioneer neutral) and Druid has Nourish.
Now is your problem cycling through your deck or drawing answers? Those two are very very different.
Seriously, in what alternate universe priest needs more card draw? There are classes/archetypes that are in a FAR worst position in that respect (hunter comes to mind).
Looks to me like OP made this thread in the hope of getting Popular achievement.
The only two downsides with Northshire is she is not really a turn 1 minion. As you can not heal any minion on turn 1 and with the many speeddecks currently, you'll be in a bad spot if you attack with her on turn 2 and heal, just to get a card. As you are still with just 1 1/3 minion at the end of turn 2. And the other is that she's useless on an empty board.
I'm convinced the OP is either a troll or the worst Priest player to have ever played the game based on both this thread and the thread about how priest is awful because it lacks good "buff" spells.
When someone says Northshire Cleric and Power Word: Shield are anything less than powerful, let alone outwardly calling them "bad", I have to question their skill and knowledge of value and/or tempo. A turn 1 Cleric forces a number of decks to literally do nothing for their first 3 turns for fear of letting the priest just draw an extra card each turn, and PW:S has always been very strong but as a free cantrip with upside with Radiant Elemental it's climbed to a new power level.

So PW:S and NSC are crap but the SW:H for which you want to dig in your deck is totally good and worth a slot.
