I think it's misleading to say that priest is unplayable right now. It has problems, but there are a couple viable decks in Standard. Dragon, Rez and silence decks have all been mentioned. Even N'Zoth will get you somewhere.
Of those, Dragon is the best. It has the tempo Priest is currently missing from its repertoire. Make a custom deck to suit your needs and you'll just fine.
It is a spam thread because there's litterally hundreds of threads like these that state no numbers or anything of the kind, just folks being frustrated that they are incapable of playing the game.
Shadow Word: Pain removes some of the most stickiest early game minions in the history of Hearthstone with near 0 repercussions, same thing with Shadow Word: Death. In addition to this priest also have the strongest removal for deathrattles in the game currently with Entomb giving priest a grand total of 6 cards that can control the game in a deck. It is true however that as priest is the antithesis of paladins that have an abundance of AoE spells, priest have a lack in that regard. But then again Holy Nova has seen a great deal of success in Dragon Priest over the years including to this date when alot of aggressive decks have 2-3 health minions for the most part. And Excavated Evil being a fairly priced and really good AoE spell for non-minion heavy decks such as Resurrect priest and various different combo priest decks. Circle of Healing in addition to Auchenai Soulpriest have also served this purpose but is only really worth mentioning as its not a single card and is a combo making it relatively unreliable making it mentionable but not on the same scale as Priest's single target removal.
Took me litterally less than 30 seconds to find those decks here on Hearthpwn so... I guess, 'the facts speak for themselves' and the facts say 'You are a pretenious spamming prick who doesn't know how to play the game'. Just as a final thing to take notice of: I am unbelivably arrogant because I know I can be just that arrogant, because I actually look up these 'fabled' numbers and make sure I don't speak out of my arse.
Stop wasting folks' time.
I don't care if one or two guys and can get legend with these decks. I am not a Pro player and the facts do show that "most players, myself included" are beaten to death when they choose to play Priest. This is the feeling of most of us here.
BTW, you don't have to spend your time answering me if you think it's a waste of time. But I should say, you're the prick speaking out of your arse.
2. Dragon priest is quite viable right now, don't look at tier lists for they are relevant to tournaments not ladder.
3. The upcoming nerfs to alot of classes is going to leave priest with the best removal in the entire game against shaman and it stands exceedingly solid against any type of freeze mage which I think will be a dominent deck after the nerfs.
So you are spamming, you aren't using any kind of logic and is also quite, QUITE wrong.
if you want to prove me, just saying... bring me numbers.
Do you even know what the nerfs are? It's only nerf to execute and rockbiter.. druids, warriors and mages still got way better removal than oriest.. and the priest match up against freeze mage is like.. 10/90.. favorable to the freeze mage. Priest is too slow and doesn't have enough heals to beat freeze mage.
I don't see a reason to play dragon priest over dragon warrior .
You are joking right? Priest outlives the freeze mage about 80% of the time, and if you add onto that the removal that priest gets, the mage isn't going to be able to deal enough damage to you to actually do anything useful. Meanwhile you are going to be silencing anything useful they put out that has 4 attack and rezzing your guys to keep tempo constantly in your favor.
As for mage having better removal? Really? Really? Unless the mage is stupid enough to waste his fireballs, portal, torches, ect on your minions (which you should be so lucky...), the priest takes mage by leaps and bounds. Hell, does he have a minion you envy? Take it for your own with entomb and some draw. Seriously you have to be playing in rank 15 or higher to be encountering mages that spam their spells. My guess is, you don't know the other decks well enough to know what is a threat or not against your priest, and as such are losing to those decks by spamming your removal on anything it fits on, which is the WRONG way to play period.
What rank 15? I got legend last month :P
2 blizzards 2 frost nova 2 ice barrier and priests low attack minions.. there are 2 ways to beat freeze mage you either outheal their burst (warriors/paladins) or you beat them fast enough, I got like 300 games against freeze mage with variety of decks I know the deck well enough..
you can waste a fireball on a priest of the feast that will overall do more dmg the rest is to stall stall stall.. you got a pyro blast or and antonidas, and probably two tourches, freeze mages run way more burst than you think they run.. it's not just 15 dmg for 10 mana you know.. there's thaurisan and tourches..
Anyway about removal I was speaking about the classess in general, all classes mentioned got better board clears or just plain removal the priest removal might be without doing dmg.. but the max HP of every minion is 7 anyway..
I always had an impression that Freeze Mage obliterates Priest completely... Always had problem vs them as Priest, I can't deal them any dmg pretty much and they just rekt me in one turn, literally had like 20-30% wr vs them (don't remember exactly was long time ago), with CW it's easy cos of armor over 30 hp, but Priest dies like nothing - at least in my experience, maybe I played it bad.
Also tier lists aren't made based on tournaments but based on win rates on ladder
Yeah, Freeze Mage is harsh. Even if they don't combo you to kill you (they usually don't), the amount of burn Mage has is ridiculous. They can just go face with their spells and there's nothing you can do about it unless you run a megaton of healing cards. The recently popular aggro freeze Mage is even worse on Priest because you need removal AND healing to deal with them.
Okay, while my priest may not do too poorly against freeze mage control decks, the new agro freeze mages tears my ass up. I don't think we have many options to deal with that type of deck that would leave our decks viable for the general populous of decks though.

Yeah, I'm guessing my Silent Rez deck does something a bit differently than the majority of priest decks out there because it seems to be the general consensus that you are correct about the frost mage messing up the priest decks. Mine does just fine and wins most of the time against the control freeze mage decks, but against the newer agro freeze mage decks I'm screwed.
Barbzilla, please make links to "mentioned priest deck". I didn't found your decks in posts or profile. Argentum talked about 2 decks: 1) resurrect with Bog creapers (weak list without draw), 2) Nthos - interesting one, I will check. (But I don't see anybody laddering with it).
Standard only. Not for fun in legend, but climb.
I'm sure Mr kibler can take legend with any deck. Does it proves anything?
PS I have better success with Astral Druid and Y'Shaarj hunt

It is literally just one I made myself, I usually don't post decks I'm still playing on here unless I am doing something very experimental (I don't want my deck lists to be widely known). I can try to find a similar priest deck and link that one to you if you like.
Just check the number of decks between rank 1 and 5. You will probably find 1 % priest => not viable on standard ladder.
There is a HUGE difference between the words viable and common (or even viable and simple to play). The more complex a deck is to play, and the more planning and forethought goes into your actions with the deck to make it work properly the fewer players will actually play it. Priest isn't in a great place power-wise right now, that is very well known and I don't think anyone is trying to say that priest is on equal footing with warrior or shaman by any means. Rather, what we are saying is that it is quite possible to get any number of required wins with Priest (in fact with any class) right now, as it is viable that someone who is both dedicated to priest and well versed in the most common netdecks (to know what cards are going to block the deck and hold cards to counter them when they come out) to make it to legendary right now.
I would probably say that Priest isn't tournament viable right now, but I'm sure some truly dedicated Priest could prove me wrong there.
Tides of Time played for 6 hours with priest at rank 9 and couldn't rank up at all. He got up to 8 but then he fell back down all the way to 10. He switched to Shaman and started cruising up the ranks. The game is in a deplorable state right now for a few classes, but priest is by far the worst.

Look, I want to tell you something because you're very dear to me. And I hope you understand that it comes from the bottom of my damaged, damaged heart. You are the finest piece of ass I've ever had and I don't care who knows it. I am so glad that I got to roam those hillsides.
A control class without a big board clear is just a joke.
That is precisely why many Priest players prefer Dragon Priest right now, but honestly Deathwing can be played in any deck (provided you have the means to A: hold out until turn 10 or 9/w Coin and B: enough left in the deck or some other means of re-handing, though you really need to watch the opponent's hand before dropping. You really don't want an empty hand and they have 6 cards of a tempo or agro deck in hand (unless you have already baited out all of their strong removal, in which case just having a couple extra draw cards in deck like Asure Drake and Bloodmage Thalnos will see you through the turn or two before he dies).
You also have to remember that Priest has a lot of little methods to clear a board when overwhelmed and the ability to stay alive while take back the board 2-3 minions at a time. Cards like Mind Control are super useful there (though I much prefer the limited mind control cards like Mind Control Tech, Shadow Madness, and especially Silvanas + PW: Death for an extra permanent mind control once you have their board down to just the target you want. Though if you do run [card]Mind Control[/control] I'd caution against running two of them. It is just too excessive for most scenarios. Especially since you can use the mind controlled minion to drop the problem minion a lot of the time.
I really don't worry too awful much about board clears though as Priest outside of Bloodmage Thalnos + any direct damage AoE such as Excavated Evil and Holy Nova, Deathwing (in some of my Priest decks, but only about 35% or so), and Shadow Word Horror + Confuse (though as a note, you may want Confuse in your deck if you are having a lot of issues with AoE removal. You can use that to chain together Shadow Word: Horror with Confuse after using any of the Priest's AoE damage setups to clear out most non-legendary creatures if you are truly overwhelmed, but I honestly only run SW: Horror when my deck is having issues with agro decks, and even then its usually much more effective to invert your heals with one of the two ways and circle of healing.

On Vicious syndicate stats dragon priest has a WR of 44%, control priest 41% on standard ladder.
While dragon priest is better yes, those stats are still so horrifyingly bad that reaching 5 will be a challenge and making legend close to impossible. Remember that those stats take into account that if you lose, you drop in rank. Exceptional players might be able to eke out an edge, but they would undoubtedly do far better than in any other class.
About the only place priest can eke out a small spot is in tournament metas (which we have seen on the scene), it it is still possible to make some good counters with it. But for playing on ladder? It's at a horrible spot right now.
i play priest just fine i win games and i have fun so idk what your problem is really. if you really want early game in priest theres a lot of neutral early game but you already know why priest dont use early game but no one talks about this. auchenai circle is a boardclear-flamestrike on turn 4 so you let them overextent and gain card advantage.....thats the style of priest if you dont enjoy that play something else and stop complaining.
you know whats the most important thing i assume out of all these complain threads? that like 99% of the players dont play to have fun but play to boost their self esteem or something i really dont get it. winning is fun yeah i get it but if you are a good player you can win even with bad decks. i play a reno mage with many fun legendaries like saraad and soggoth and yes i win games with it AND im having fun. i watch the stream of a chinese guy on twitch and he plays mostly control decks with cards you would never imagine seriously play and he wins......
i know most of the players are kids and they dream to become good like their favourite streamers but the truth is hearthstone is played my millions of people and only 100 of them are allowed to get points for a chance on tournaments with money. so my suggestion is play for fun. on my last game as tyrande (i fucking love her btw) i obliterated a midrange shaman and trust me winning against a tier 1 bullshit deck that everyone plays with a clunky deck is much more enjoyable. i drop my soggoth and hes like fall before the old gods and im like fuck yeah i really have fun. and now that im not in the mood of farming gold and i want games with thought i just play priest or control warrior.
if you find priest unplayable i feel sorry for you and whoever asks about my rank im rank 15 only playing priest from rank 20 and with very few games. and its 3rd day of the season.
