Intro: Hello guys, today I wanna talk about the Control Paladin, a class and deck which people presumed to be dead. It offers a refreshing playstyle and if playing on curve, basically like in all Paladin decks but especially in the 40-card version, there is almost no way people gonna stop you (yes even priests with the Theotar). I got rank 46# legend with it and can only recommend to try it out.
Core: The deck exceels in its ability to build up early early pressure (similar to the Beast Hunter but not in the same intensity) and generating more options/value at the same time. You are able to counter early pop offs (like boon bless priest) while also defending yourself from surprising burst numbers in the late game (Sire combos / OTK Warrior/Relic DH). Having that many card to discover things, you can be flexible and adjust to the situation, which makes it somelike a fusion of a Beast Hunter with the old Discover Priest/Thief Rogue.
Mulligan: Eventhough HS Replays data says something different and depends on the situation, I made the experience that always keeping Cariel, doesn't matter if starting with coin or not, brought me a lot of wins and games where I dumped here, I regret later. Aside from that we are looking for cards like Knight or Sous Chef, Savior or Battle Vicar and Bannerman or Mooncatcher (Servant only against Control decks like Quest Priest, OTK Warrior, Control Shaman) - preferably always the first card I mentioned in each manacost section. Boon Bless Priest is the only exception, Hero card is too slow there and we are looking for cards like Knight, Vicar, Servant, Equality and Righteous Defense, to discover and get those counter cards fast for the pop off.
Outro: I hope this helps you and give you an idea how to pilot the deck, if you have additional questions, check out my video on yourtube. If there are still questions, feel free to ask me, enjoy!
