Every Class should have at least one viable control variant.
I disagree. Hunter, rogue and druid never had control decks, it just doesn't fit the identity. They go for aggro, tempo, midrange, combo, ramp, token. Shaman had low tier control deck that was born and died in wild b/c it couldn't get all the tools in a single standard rotation. Control pala died with Equality nerf. If devs would put Solemn Vigil in the classic, that'd eventually keep the dream alive.
edit: I'm probably wrong about the druid, plus it fits the identity - they can tank in WoW, and in HS they have insane armor gain.
They all had control decks. Hunter was the best Control class ( Technically Druid,Hunter, and Rogue were all at some point the best control class in the game) with Warlock, just purely because of DK Rexxar. And Rogue had endless value ( and tons of healing) with Shadowstep + Nzoth.
I would also say Blizzard is trying to revitalize the control aspect of Paladin. If any class should have a control archetype it’s probably Priest and Paladin. In Paladins core set we have Tons of useless secrets but also a bunch of debuffs, healing, aoe, and even the main Legendary is defensive oriented ( Tirion, no immediate impact) , wich all hints towards a slower approach to play the game.
Blizzard didnt gave us new secrets so far, and they didn’t buffed a tokenbased ( Murlocs) archetype. They went straight into making control tools stronger. I wouldn’t be surprised if they even push it further next expansion.

Hunter with dk rexxar was the best anti-control class, it still died to 90% of aggro decks because it didn't have shit to, you know, control the game. Its dk was an auto win against control warrior and the like, but just because a deck wins against control decks it doesn't make it a control deck itself.
The concept that just because a class can shadowstep nzoth then it's "control" is also incredibly laughable, then yeah, sure, it's not like rogues are weak against aggro and wide boards and always have been.
You might also have missed how one of the new pala legendaries is a murloc and how its only dormant minion is also a murloc. Which incidentally led to something of a renaissance of murloc paladin in wild (no idea about standard but it seems to be doing well there too, to some extent). So much for blizz "not buffing a murloc archetype".
Wow some people are really high or something......
You cannot tell me 4 horsemen pally wasn't control. It was 100% control.....
It wasn't, though. It was about drawing and clearing and drawing and clearing, in order to (hopefully) play your game winning combo. Hence it was a combo deck. Sure, control was how you beat aggro - but that's been true for pretty much all combo decks ever, as you're not drawing to your regular wincon against fast decks.
By your logic, Togwaggle druid was also a control deck
Control wil never exist if value decks are there like gala priests and rogues. If control exist there will be ms.elysiana. so what do u want guys? Choose your poison.
Control Paladin doesn't exist right now because it doesn't have a win condition. There's no OTK like Horsemen. There's no endless value like Galakrond Rogue or Priest. I don't even think Warriors are currently on a removal-and-fatigue plan these days. Whether or not control Paladin has the tools, it doesn't have a way to win the game, and they'd need one.
But even back in the day, non-OTK Paladin Control was mostly.... very greedy midrange? Like, they never really had the fatigue types of decks like Warrior or Priest or sometimes even Mage. Don't get me wrong, I've had a lot of fun playing these kinds of decks in the past. But it kinda feels like 1/1 dudes can't accomplish as much anymore, can't put up nearly as much pressure as they used to be able to.

Hitting the dude button was how you outvalued other slow decks in long games. You hit the button these days you will die from tempo loss, even at 8+ mana. Game has changed.
There's just too much value out there. Even tempo decks can deplete your removal in the long run because they just never run out of resources.
Draconic Lackey is a major culprit. I absolutely love the discover mechanic in most cases, but it's just too top heavy in the case of dragons. Your average dragon is basically a 6/7, and the majority of them have powerful effects. Control has always worked because you build a deck with enough removal to account for the minions in the opposing deck. Now suddenly you're having to consider dealing with another 50/50+ in stats over the course of a game that came off of discovers and Dragonqueen Alexstrasza.

Paladin Control was fun to play during vanilla/naxx and old gods. I really miss that time :(
