I finally went for it and hit my lower floor (15) with recruits pal in Standard on NA. I have always used recruits in wild on and off to reach my highest ranks (7 so far) as I just find it is the best deck in terms of staying power. By that I mean if you are careful with your cards and always hold 1 or 2 back you can almost always make a new board (and maybe even buff it with another card) so you are never really out of the game. I am extremely happy to see it ranked t1 or 2 by multiple sites for standard and I have to say turning your 1/1 board into 3/3s or better when your opponent drops their summoner and an 8 or 10 drop (depending on druid or priest) is very satisfying. Apart from me giddily rambling I guess I wanted Hearthpwn's thoughts, is it a fun new fresh deck for standard or is it just a new cancer? I know my opinion I am interested to hear yours! Thanks for reading.
With Level Up! printed, I am surprised it wasn't a thing sooner considering that the deck has really been prevalent in wild for a while and the main missing combo piece for standard was a Quartermaster like effect!

I feel like the biggest reason it is so big atm is it is SO strong against summoner decks and they have really become prevalent after the nerfs. You have a board of tokens against druid and are awaiting the inevitable swipe then suddenly they play spiteful turn 6 and you can drop an equality or Tarim and blow past any tempo they gained. You are thinking maybe your turn 1 or 2 play will be answered with a potion of madness or when your board spreads you will face spirit lash but then once again they drop summoner turn 6. Turn 6 is SO strong for this deck, especially with any board presence. So far I have figured, Tarim, level up, knife juggler + CTA, Knife + Steward + into the jungle, etc are all great 6 mana combos, especially since that is sort of the turn when an opponent will reveal their deck so to speak.
The deck existed for 2 seasons now. It got overshadowed by the meta because of Raza being there. Having two popular decks that were auto losses wasn't nice. Right now, the only bad matchup is the Warlock, which is manageable.
So i went from rank 17 to 12 in 2 days with this deck. Pretty fun to play so far.
Hard counters:
Warlock
Don't even bother playing against a warlock, it's pretty much an instant loss. After the 5th crystal they control the game.
Secret mage
Counterspell is the perfect cockblock since this deck relies a lot on spells. Also they can clear the board pretty fast.
You can win if you manage to waste their counterspells with some non useful spell or they might get unlucky with the draw.
Completely agree, I have a 0% winrate against any Warlock deck with this dude-din deck. Against Zoo you just get pummeled by Despicable Dreadlord and against Control/Cubelock they have plenty of waveclears. Everytime if you try build the board back again, they summon another Voidlord or they just clear it instantly.
On the other hand, you can basically win against any other Murloc Pally's since your deck has so many token to deal with those snowballing murlocs. Against other aggresice decks it performs pretty good, but you need to be carefull when you want to spam your hand and when not.

I think it wasn't a thing sooner because a) it is very weak against Warlock AOE and Voidlord, b) it was often too slow against Tempo Rogue because the rogue hero power is so good for early trades on recruits, and c) it couldn't contend with Raza Priest AOE (especially Psychic Scream). There's an unusually small amount of AOE being played right now - Warlock has a lot, and Priest sometimes has AOE, but there are enough classes in the meta that don't run any that Dude Paladin's board flood strategy can be very effective.
