So I'm intrigued by OTK paladin but I'd have to craft Auctionmaster Beardo to make the deck. And I only have enough dust to craft one legendary.
Can you climb the standard ladder with an OTK deck or is it more of a gimmick than anything else? Just trying to decide whether to spend my dust or save it. Thanks!
OTK Paladin is probably t4 now in Standard (it has never been much more than viable and Control Paladin seems sub-optimal against most decks right now) and Beardo is rotating to Wild in like 3 months at most.
3 months are 3 seasons. Can't see why people go crazy with crafting a card that will play for 3 more seasons.
To answer your real question, OTK isn't fit to climb the ladder from the very low ranks. It is however a good choice at 5+ or even higher since it has a good shot against other controls and a better game against aggro. So, use it when you need a more solid deck rather than a fast deck with 50-55% Win rate, like Murlocs or lowbie aggro that gets easily hated out of meta in the higher ranks.
Craft Beardo, try the deck and try something different than just filling boards with weenies to buff.

Definetly viable for climbing. went from rank18 to rank5 within 2 days. is beardo worth crafting? depends on your dust balance and given your informations I would say no, even if my decklist has 70-75% winrate because people don't expect non aggro-paladins.
In 2-3 months Beardo rotates out but I hope we get some new cards for some new OTK DK Uther combo
Relying on your opponent to give you coins in order to activate your "OTK" is not a viable strategy.
It's definitely a good way to climb the Ladder though - back down to rank 20.
you know nothing werty101... stop spreading lies not playing a decktype is fine but saying it doesn't work without any proof is a bad joke.
I climbed to rank5 within 2 days with an "OTK" paladindeck during this new season and have all my replays recorded. OTK paladin is viable in the current meta. learn how to play it or stick to aggro paladin but don't say it doesn't work
I'm not sure what or where you've been playing, but there's no way an "OTK" Paladin deck wouldn't get eaten alive on the Ladder by all the Aggro right now.
How many of these games did you get your "OTK" off? Not even one in ten, most likely.
I don't know what deck list he use, but with [card]Call to Arms[/card] and Spikeridged Steed any control paladin has really good matchup against most aggro decks.

The OTK win theme is only needed against other control/combodecks. Against aggro you just need to survive and therfor you just hard mulligan for Call to Arms. Loot Hoarder + Dirty Rat + Plated Beetle + Pyromancer make the trick. I also use Corridor Creeper for turn6 Spikeridged Steed plays or general tempo swings to stabilize after the board clear. The extra armor from plated beetle is often enough to survive untill you get to DK Uther or more spikeridged steed for Lynessa Sunsorrow plays.
From all the aggro decks out there, only paladin is 50-50, every other aggrodeck has in my opinion a disadavantage against control paladin. I don't finish aggrodecks with OTK, thats true but my deck was also able to beat priests/jadedruids or other control/combodecks and that is good enough to climb.
My experience tells me that the climb is harder during the beginning of a new season especially the higher ranks (rank 10-Legend the first days) and I only faced the current meta decks, no unicorns.
Believe me or not but most control decks can't "play around" Burgly Bully because they need their spells to survive vs Call to Arms/Corridor Creeper/Tarim. Razapriest especially relies on their spells and they have huge problems to get Burgly Bully off the board. Same goes for Jade/Mage.
Yes ever other paladin plays Call to Arms as well but it is all about stalling the game long enough to clear the board with equality or consecration and not winning each board trade turn after turn. The usual Aggro/Murlocpaladin does not play Spellbreaker.
Overall I think you have a false impression of the current meta if you think silence makes spikeridged steed / lynessa useless. Ofc it sucks if the opponent has their dispells but thanks to Lynessa every silenced/counterspelled Spikeridged Steed counts towards her spellcount and you don't play Spikeridged Steed on turn6,7 without having minions on board to get instant trading value from the buff. Even in the late turns it provokes a reaction from your opponent which makes Lynessa plays safer and don't forget the combination Lynessa+Zorga of Gorgon on turn10. Even if Lynessa gets dispelled, she draws you 1-2 cards because of the played potion of heroism and each card draw brings you nearer to board clears/OTK combos.
Lets just agree to disagree but if you never played my decklist don't say it doesn't work. exodia is not exodia.. I have seen/played enough decklists which failed horrible and I would have thought the same of the "OTK"-theme just like you do.. but I have success with my own decklist and I won't discourage people who might want to play non-aggro paladin decks for climbing
I'm currently trying to climb with the most memish of all decks I ever created.. kele'seth aggro otk paladin. From rank 10 to rank 8 i played 8 games and won 7.
No-one expects an aggro core to hide an otk.
One warlock even build a taunt wall instead of killing my one dinosized apicapocaly rider..just to get oneshotted with beardo next round.
But must admit that most of the games were won with the aggro core. The otk helps against pesky warlock's though

In your situation, definitely save.

Save your dust, this card will rotate in less than 3 month so it's not worth to craft it right now.

OTK works in wild, less so in standard. My rule for anything is if you want to use it craft it. its as simple as that
