With most decks now using Prince Renathal and abyssal curse warlocks absolutely destroying us, the only thing that has any hope of climbing is mech mage but most other decks are keeping up with it now.
What are you guys playing? Because I have never had a worse time playing mage than right now.
Mage has the two tier 1 decks in the latest patch according to hsreplay, Big Spell Mage and Mech Mage (the latter being literally the highest winrate deck in the game).

I'd say Mage is doing just fine.
Yeah but that's back then, I'm talking about now with Prince Renathal and how strong abyssal curse warlocks currently are.
Well maby you could try the absolute tier s big spell mage with that nice wincon of playing rng 9/10 mana spells in turn 6. It could be a nice option for you
Build a 40 deck mech mage too. I'm climbing allright with a cheap version of mech mage with 40 cards. Better than the original deck
No it's not better. I't diluted, worse, takes you longer to find Mecha Sharks or mana discount spell. You guys don't get that 40 card decks are worse than 30 card decks in almost any setting?
Mech Mage is weak, Big Spell Mage requires you to be lucky and is predictible, easy to play around for some classess. So no, Mage is not fine.
it seems competitive, included in most lineups in the ongoing tournament (you can check the overall stats in battle-fly website) Hearthstone Masters Tour: Vashj'ir
As mentioned by others - big spell is unpredictable and easy to play around, and mech isn't very good anymore since other classes are keeping up with it. That leaves ping mage which can be good if you get lucky with early wildfires and apprentice and we all know how rare that is. So what's left, it seems the title of my thread is very much relevant right now.

Decks chosen for tournaments and decks good for laddering are very often very different decks.
Mage has 3 archetypes and so what? It's still one of 3 classess with lowest winrate. How is that being good?
What the hell are you talking about? According to HSReplay, across all ranks other than top 1000 Legend, either Mech Mage or Big Spell Mage or both are tier 1 decks, and always at least tier 2. That's complaining on a quite high level.
And yes, those are statistics from after the Prince Renathal release.
And looking just at the class winrate overall is no good indicator. The class is played by a lot of beginners with unrefined decks that skew the winrate. If you look at Bronze rank for example, the deck type "Other" has a very high play rate of around 5% (which is huge for anything off-meta) at an abysmal winrate of <30%.

Mech mage looses to druid and freeze shaman in wild. Sometimes a priest or rogue can get ya. But ya, it’s pretty strong overall. IN WILD.
Mech mage is good but boring. But ping mage and big spell mage are both fun decks.

Yes fun but they aren't good after Prince, that's what I'm experiencing now and I wanna know if it's just me.
mage feels fine. ping, mech and big spell are all atleast 50% winrate.

None of the Mage decks is particularly good against Warlock and this did not change.
I never ever saw Mage as the worst class in any meta, so nope.

After Mean Streets of Gadget I would say is mages worst time in HS

idk man when its not turn 2 full mech board its infinite time warp, id say its never been this toxic for as long as I can remember, playing since TGT

You think mage has never been worse, while it has 3 playable-ish archetypes? Apxvoid, is that you?
The sad thing about mage is that way too much of its recent history is connected to casino-ing.

Ceterum censeo classum magi esse delendam.
