I'm currently at rank 5 and I have been using big spell mage. I've been trying it with The Lich King and it's been doing okay. What do you guys think is better in the deck? Dragoncaller Alanna or The Lich King?
Dragoncaller Alanna is a niche card, but the deck in question is her reason for existing: the end-game reward of Big Spell Mage. The Lich King is all-around more useful - being a Neutral Taunt will do that - but DCA was literally made for this deck.

Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
So if you like mage and you are seriously considering playing the Big Spell Mage Archetype then you hands down need and want to Craft Dragoncaller Alanna. She's a huge win condition.
However, if it's just a passing phase craft The Lich King cause he sees plays in way more decks.
In essence, Lich for versatility but Dragoncaller specifically for your Big Deck hands down.

I have both, do you think DCA is a better fit for it?
Yes, although you could theoretically have both of them in there.

I think you should put more emphasis on the fact that you have both, and are wondering which one to slot in, not that you are wondering which to craft.
but I think it will be worth it to have both, I personally don't play spell mage, but I think it you have to choose one, than it has to be Dragon caller alana.

Rejoice, for even in death, you have become children of Thanos.
Alanna is a closer or desperation card. Clunky. But a fed Alanna is likely to kill hunters if they increase in popularity. My mage wins vs. hunters recently have been a result of that card.
The Lich King at 8 mana is flexible. It gives you a big threat along with a ping, and a card that may help or hinder you. But he doesn't last longer than a round on average.
/myself, I'm debating on Elise the Trailblazer for end game fuel or Azalina for desperation/control lock counter.
Hey, i play BSM too. Trust me, Alanna is a key card. Plus, you can discover The Lich King via tortollan, so i would cut him from the deck list. And then there s also the possibility that Lich King gives you shit cards like Army of Dead, Doom Pact and Obliteration
"The flow of time is always cruel... its speed seems different for each person, but no one can change it... A thing that does not change with time is a memory of younger days..."
I don't like either in Big Spell Mage, personally.
The Lich King is just a big silence target against aggro, and you're looking at about a 50:50 shot of pulling a useful card in control mirrors.
Alanna just seems like a "win more" card to me, aside from a few niche matchups. It's never going to be playable against aggro, and control decks are likely going to be holding removal because you won't have put any board pressure out there to force it earlier in the game. I'd have to see your deck to really give advice, but I'm more partial to at least one Arcane Tyrant if you're not already including those. I've even found (anecdotally, at least), Primordial Drake to be more useful. Though that was prior to the CTA nerf when I felt like I needed a little more insurance against Paladin's endless reload.
There are two matchups where I would say Alanna can win you games, though:
1) Against Hunter after they drop Deathstalker Rexxar and threaten to out-inevitable you with a flood of big minions.
2) Spiteful Druid, if they pace their threats and stress your removal with an early Keleseth. They can't generally answer a wide board, and putting them on the clock forces them to play into your removal a little bit harder.
I dunno; maybe others are getting a win % boost out of it. But for this meta I just don't see a lot of situations where it advances my win condition when the game wasn't already locked up.
Have about 40 games of Big Spell Mage, Alanna is the biggest swing card available and that's its appeal. I personally hate Lich King because of the disparity of his offerings makes forming a strategy around his cards frustrating. The problem is the closer it gets to fatigue they'll know you have Alanna, and starting planning every move around Alanna. You might never get a good chance to put it down if they can keep you off balance. Gotta risk it for a biscuit, that's Big Spells.

If you thought you knew what you think I know, then you'd know I knew you knew I know.
alanna is more expensive (cannot make a water elemental anymore) and can only be played late in the game.
Lich king can be played on turn 8 and furthermore you can still make a water elly if dropped with 10 mana
and what? thats the purpose of the card. to be the ultimate threat the last resort. one card that gives u immeadiatly 60+ stats on board. its a win condition by it self. and against a lot of classes she is unmanagable. Hunter, rouge, druid, shaman has very hard time as soon as she enters the board. who cares about the water elemental when u put down lethal next turn and beside of that in the stage where u play alanna u normally recovered and stabilized enough from ur water ellys.
I have both, do you think DCA is a better fit for it?
Ehm, why dont you just try it then? I mean i have nothing against asking this question and ppl might tell you their experiences, but like ...
Anecdotal experience for a casual player isn't all that useful if you're trying to really figure out which gives you a greater win % bump. You'd need to play hundreds of games before your sample size was large enough for variance to flatten out.
In terms of crafting, Lich King all the way, but this isn't a crafting question: it's a deck-tech question.
I kinda think Alanna for Big Spell Mage in particular. There are decks which simply lose to Alanna because they won't have a way to clear a giant board of dragons.
Lich King is great value against control, and a solid board-agnostic card to just slam in general, but Big Spell Mage already has great tools when behind on board, but gains something really different from having a serious game-ending threat like Alanna.
Is that "win more?" Maybe, but sometimes you need that. BSM is great at making sure you're not behind on board. A Win More card to leverage that advantage into a clear win can be quite good.
For Bigspell Mage - Alanna without doubt. 9 mana for lethal is the way to go and it's the reason you'll win certain matchups. Lich, however, is more versitle and you can put that card into pretty much every deck.

I haven't played that deck, but in general, LK by a mile

LK.
Allana rarely sees play in big spell mage anymore. Almost every version of the deck has cut her. She's just too slow 90% of the time.
Overwhelmingly so yes.
Yes, although you could theoretically have both of them in there.

Alanna for sure. There are not many decks that can handle a board full of 5/5 in a single turn, especially if u played 6-8 boardclears during the game

I've no clue what I'm doing...
Pretty simple, lich king is a neutral legendary that can help any deck, alana ONLY fits in big spell mage.
If you dont have the king craft him.
