The secret-trigger minions work better in Reno mage, where you are more likely to have an iceblock up. Also, you can combo a secret with the watcher on turn 8, or the valet on turn 5.
But yeah, secret mage is still kinda disappointing.
In the end Valet will only show up in reno lists, but I'm managing to have some success with a take on Aggro Freeze Mage. If you are able to drop him for 3 damage, good, otherwise it's another 2 drop to get a few damage before going burst down.
Your secrets are also weak. Ice Block is not good in aggro meta. Mirror Entity will rarely ever get you value and Counterspell is mediocre except when they use Coin. So try including Effigy since it takes a turn to proc.
Mage Secrets are awful. None of them equal the mana cost except situationally ice block. Why don't they cost 2 mana?
Super easy to play around and completely negate the effect. Hunter secrets are categorically better AND cheaper. Freezing trap is SIGNIFICANTLY better than any Mage secret. Bear + Cat Trap basically are better Mirror Entity or Effigy 3 out of 5 times. Counterspell us countered by the coin. A free 0 mana card counters a 3 cost secret. Why.
It's actually as though Blizzard decided Mage shouldn't have secrets anymore.
Mad Scientist allowed Mage secrets because you effectively thinned your deck and got the effect for free. Any positive effect is worthwhile if it's free.
I played a Secret Mage before Kara without Mr. Mad Scientist, I had a 63% winrate, just had to make it really controlly and be careful when you played your secrets. Though it really only worked from rank 20-13.

Thats cool! Nice that ppl make these things work. Im aiming more for 10 to legend though.
Yesterday i was watching Strifecros stream he was playing some kind of control mage with Medivh's Valet and Medivh, the Guardian . It was very good against common meta decks but its not easy to play(atleast for me).
Edit: If someone wants to try it here is the list, like i said its hard to play but fun all these aggro players dont like Ice Block :D
I tried screwing around with a "secret mage" as well right after the 4th wing released. It wasn't very good. Instead, i decided to play a "valet mage" by just taking advantage of that 3 damage effect. I included 3 secrets and some spell generation just in case, and also Yogg-Saron, Hope's End plan B. Tried it out for ~20 games or so (yes its not that big of a sample size, but the deck feeling is on).
I tweaked it here and there and I realized its weaknesses.
You either have to cut removal or low mana minions, which both just kills you.
A big problem is, that your secrets get triggered right away and you cant play ur secret minions.
If you still wanna give it a try, here is the decklist I ended up with:
Already tried it with Avian Watcher but it almost never worked out.
In the beginning I played without Arcane Blast and Cult Sorcerer but got overrun early on.
Next step would be to cut Flamewaker and Sylvanas for more secrets or to reuse Fireballs again.
Did anyone actually think it would? I wasn't aware this was a deck people thought would be good.
I returned to this game much like how a recovering alcoholic can relapse.

Wow, no shit Sherlock, did you really thought a deck like that was going to work? Seriously? C'mon dude...

Freeze Mage is probably good again now, thanks to Valet.
Play this in wild with Mad Scientist and Ice Blocks early on.Make it a control deck NOT a tempo deck.Maybe a few spells that generate spells like Cabalist's Tome with Arcane Giants and Echo of Medivh.
Maybe a deck based on Massans Echo mage.
The 1st step towards a better game is firing Mike Donais! We had enough of his "skillful" balances!

Soul Parade :)
Mage secrets are too expensive , they used to work because of mad scientist, i would try in wild if you have that card
