It's a coinflip gimmick card/deck/game. But then, so is C'Thun. This expansion is a power-down to reverse past power creeps that went too far and they have to distract you from that reality with gimmicks. Pretty fine gimmicks, and it's necessary. Nice recovery, on their part, from some awkward past decisions and we'll have to bear with it.
Both Yogg and Servant of Yogg are really strong Tempo mage cards. You just don't play them if you are ahead, and outcomes are beneficial on average. Ofc you will lose some games due to Servant Soulfirin itself, but you will also just outright win some with Yogg clearing full Patron Board and drawing 5+ cards while providing you with free Ice Block, or Servant of Yogg casting something like Spirit Wolves of Force of nature for an insane board swing. The main trick to not just hail mary these cards on curve but play them on the right time.
In my short experience, Yogg in an awesome panic button/hail mary. Definitely not a game finisher, but I do enjoy the games I'm way behind and just saying, "fuck it, YOLO" and dropping Yogg and watching their board get cleared and a bunch of secrets dropping.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
He is very good for laddering, IMO he strictly increases your win rate - as everyone has already figured out you only play him if you're losing the game, NOT as a win condition when you are ahead. If you compare to Archmage Antonidas Yogg can swing the game much harder when you're losing. He's basically a coin flip to swing a game you're losing. IMO auto include in any midrange/control ladder deck that has sufficient number of spells (10+).
I crafted mine just for the Suicide mage and its cool IMO. In reality my Yogg was pretty Ok,most of time fulls my board, give me secrets, and card draw. comparing with the streamers i was pretty happy with my Yogg :D
Sits in my hand until I'm in a losing position, 50/50 it gets me out of that losing position. I'll be keeping it in for the time being. The card I'm not completely sold on is Cabalists Tome.
In tempo Mage or other decks which need to win before they run out of steam, I actually think Yog pushes the deck back in the competitive scene. Mathematically speaking Yog is more likely to be beneficial to you than not, so the best time seems to be when either you're losing, or just about to win and need that last final push to finish them off. By no means a god tier card, but definitely has potential.
He is probably one of the strongest cards in Freeze Mage. Often you can run of burn or about to die because there isn't any heal anymore and he just seals the game for you. Unless he DOOM!'s the board you can usually survive any draw and more often then not you get a life saving secret (noble sac, freeze trap, ice block, counterspell etc) About 50% of the time I'd say he wins you the game, 25% he saves you from losing and puts you in a position to win and 25% loses you a game you would have lost anyway.
in my yourt mage i usually just win with burn, i play yog when i am about to lose, so if he saves me its unfairly strong and if he doesnt i was gonna lose anyway.
Is he a keeper, or a gimmick that we'll probably drop in a week or so?
Well if your me then JUST DO IT, but if you want to know for sure you can win then no.

Too gimmicky. I would rather play Antonidas or Ragnaros.
