Hi guys I'm Spark and Hunter is probably my favorite class, I just love the background of this class (sound, design etc..) and it's the first class that I brought to lvl 60. The deck that I want to present you is my Midrange deck which seems to gain in popularity recently. This Modern Hunter build, as I like to call it, makes use of all the valuable Hunter cards to threaten the opponent life while not allowing him to get out of control.
April 13th, 2014 : I made 3rd place in the EU Managrind Open 25 Tournament using this deck.
As you can see, the deck is not based around rushing the opponent's face all day long, and instead focus more and controling the tempo of the game and the opponent's board. The standard comboStarving Buzzard into Unleash the Hounds allows you to punish the opponent for overextending, while other threats and the very nature of Hunter doesn't allow him to slowplay the game. Savannah Highmane is certainly one of my favorite card in the game and is used pretty efficiently in this deck. The deck is pretty consistent since you have many draws to ensure you can pull off the combos you want and the late game power increase the flexibility of the deck against slow match ups compared to the rushdown variant. The climbing may not be as fast as with a rushdown deck but the deck is more enjoyable to play and as the advantage of being really flexible against a lot of Match ups, so i definitely recommand you to try it ;)
It does well against rush decks mainly thanks to UTH and the traps but rely a bit on the draws I would say ^^ As for Control Warrior, the match up is tighed because of the nature of their hero power compare to our, but it generally goes well as you can deal with their early enrage engine and then Deadly Shot/Freezing trap their huge win condition ^^ If one your big threat can remain on the table they are probably dead next turn ;) As for Cairne, I think he can fit the deck but the 2 of Savannah Highmane already do this job, so I don't think it is necessary to add him (plus he's not a beast so no help for Houndmaster)
The Black Knight is no longer in the decklist (replaced by Ironbeak Owl) ;) Mukla is just a good early/mid game minion to play but not mandatory, you can go for a second Hyena, Deadly Shot instead, or even a second bow.
As this deck helped me a lot to get to Legend (from rank 3 to legend mainly), I brought it to this week's managrind tournament and I got 3rd place this week again =D
Had to switch for Huntard against Murloc (the punishment was insane), the rest went pretty fine. Finally lost against a Warlock who switched between Handlock and Murloc, and i didnt followed right with my switch between Mid Range and Rushdown unfortunately =/
The deck is definitely pretty insane against slow/control decks and tend to crush them, It also beats Mid range archetype. The aggro match up depends more on your UTH combo however.
As I explained in the write up, the boar is your mini-UTH so it is pretty amazing !! Off course you're not planning on using it turn 1 on an empty board (even tho you'll do this against hunter mainly) ;) It will help you powering up your Scavenging Hyena, giving a target to your Houndmaster, killing a big minion with Hunter's Mark and cycling with your Starving Buzzard. So it's definitely a key card ;) I hope I helped you understand the mechanich of this card and the reasoning behind this choice
Might try your deck out dont have mukla myself been trying a mid range deck with my hunter, this deck seems great and im going to make it and see if i can get more rank with it.
If you play it well and don't face too much rush decks, it will definitely be the case ;) That's the deck that brought me from rank 3 to Legend mainly ^^
I guess it's really hard since Hunter's Mark and Deadly Shot pretty much counters your big threats. Try to always have an early Watcher on the board, so Deadly Shot don't get so much value and give it taunt to bait those Hunter's Mark. Don't silence them with the owl but instead keep it for Savannah, scavenging Hyena or a taunted beast. Prefer playing the Drakes than Giants as it will probably bait the silence or Hunter's Mark. Also keep a Soulfire in hand for their early Animal Companion. Hellfire will counter their potential turn 5 Boar into Houndmaster and Earthen Ring Farseer seems to do some work to annoy their Deadly Shot as well as healing you while giving you a decent body. Always have 2 minions on the board seems good (to avoid Deadly/Freezing while not letting a huge UTH coming) and if they put a secret don't attack with a Giant, wait for your little minions to come and attack. In short, I think that good use of Watcher and Sunfury are key in this match up ;)
I copied this deck entirely for my dailies today (win7, win 5 with hunter and kill 40 minions), was pretty entertaining to play. Had fun vs. superlate decks, but had trouble vs. a rushhunter (and lost). Young padawan still has to learn :)

Yeah the deck is more focused towards dealing with slow decks and has some issues with rush decks if you can't find a good UTH combo to pull off. I guess that's part of the rock-paper-scissors thing ^^ But I still manage to have a decent winrate against those, and I'm still working on tweaking the deck to make it stronger in those match up while not losing it's good power against control decks.
Yes you should beat Warrior Control with it, Savannah Highmane is key in this match up as they have a hard time removing it. But I also found myself losing this match up when they can start with a really sweet opening (Armorsmith and Cruel Taskmaster are painful when combined with their removal tools) plus the fact that you can't really make a huge value out of your UTH. Off course you can't win every game but I would say that this match up is about 60-40 in your favor ;) Siding in a Stampeding Kodo can be a good idea if you face too much of them ^^
I just registered here to thank you for this deck.
Not because im actually using it, but because 99,9% of the hunters in ranks 1-5 are using this deck and im almost legendary stomping them with my cycle combo usual hunter =D
I can see the reason why people are using this, warrior control is almost an impossible matchup for the usual cycle hunter to combo, but i still can beat one or two of them, and since this new deck is swarming the ladder there are fewer warrior controls and life is getting easier for those who run the usual hunter since its a good matchup vs this hunter and the other most popular deck which is zoolock.
Thank you again!
Oh and almost forgot, but people are using River Crocolisk a lot in this build too.
Yep you're right, it gets a lot easier for face Hunter with this new meta ;) And btw, River Crocolisk is Kolento's variant, I'm going to write a guide on it for hearthstoneplayer.com ;)

Leeroy Jenkins is kind of unique for the Hunter (mainly for its synergy with Unleash the Hounds) but is not really mandatory even tho I think it increases the winrate slightly, you can probably use an Eaglehorn Bow, Stampeding Kodo, Tundra Rhino or Stranglethorn Tiger while working on it.
I highly recommand to check the writeup that I made to understand the mechanics of the deck.
Don't forget to rate it up if you liked and don't hesitate to post on this thread or in the comment section of the deck if you have any question ;)

Updated the decklist, fusionning it with my recent Modern Hunter build. The result is pretty strong overall =)

I don't have King Mukla, what substitute can u suggest to replace it?
Ahh, found in topic, sorry.
Ahah it's ok man no problem ;) He isn't the core of the deck, so yeah it's just whatever, the second scavenging hyena will do the job ^^

very good points specially regarding the hyenna and houndmaster(hunters mark sinergy was a given)
Yep that's it =) The cycle thing is also a huge argument in favor ^^
