Hello Hunters! Although I despised hunter players for a while back in the Alley Cat days, I've really come to enjoy Hunter in the past few expansions. I've been playing this spell hunter deck with Vereesa. I'd really like it to become better but right now I'm not sure if I'd take it on ladder. Any feedback much appreciated! I wrote up a small description if you click the link to the page. A like would be primo if you think it's any good.
Update: I edited -1 Tracking +1 Arcane Fletcher and -2 Eaglehorn Bow for +2 Headhunter's Hatchet and it's been working a lot better! Fletcher has been getting the extra draw even if it's only 1-2 spells it's better than Tracking.
Today's matches attached- I went 10-2 (83% WR!!) in casual matches today (Wins vs. 2 Tempo Mages, 1 Bomb Warrior, 1 Big Shaman, 1 Control Warrior, 2 Midrange Hunters, 1 Khadgar Mage, 1 Malygos Druid. Loses to 1 Tempo Mage and 1 Tempo Rogue). Might be ready to try in ranked... Yes I know it says 56% WR but that includes all the trial version matches leading up to this list that weren't as good.
Thanks but the whole idea was to try to see if we can make an effective version without the need for Malygos/Jepetto. I guess... I have to admit that the 2 Bloodscalp Strategist could be replaced with Jepetto and Maly but those games when Maly and Vereesa get drawn I guess I could just default to the strategy I have here where you just play Vereesa for the full cost and use Zul'jin... I will try it but I'm a little reluctant since I wanted to try something different.
I got a version similar to this with bloodmage thalnos vereesa and vargoth and isnt as good as it seems. The win condition is zuljin in particular. The only thing nice is Vargoth+Animal companion/ deadly shot and Unleash the beast. I often used thalnos for +3 spell damage while having Vereesa’s weapon equipped but the wepon gets often removed
i must admit that the jepetto version with maly alex and vereesa is pretty strong. I doubted for a few days if i should craft alextrasza, malygos and jepetto (4.8k dust gone and i had only 5.7k) and i dont regret it. The first day playing it i was disappointed becouse i lost to mostly aggro.
but yesterday i wanted to give it another try. I climbed from rank 13 to 8 with a winstreak (yesterday morning on the phone so i dont know exactly how many games ive played) then dropped to rank 9 (with another deck) and climbed back to rank 7 after playing 10 matchups ( 7 wins 3 losses ) *i played 50% vs aggro (2 token druid, a zoolock, 1 murloc shaman, and a tempo rogue) and 50% vs control (2 bomb warrior, 1 dragon warrior, 1 control shaman, and an immortal paladin)*
the deck falls short tbh against token druid but the other aggro decks are beatable. Its not the hardest dekc to play but it takes a bit of knowledge of using your resources in the most effective way. I won vs tempo rogue with maly in hand since turn 1 so drawing one or 2 minnions is not as bad as you may think
I hope i convinced you to give the deck a try. I will continue playing the deck this evening and try to climb to rank 5 with it
By the way if you want to play vereesa just to combo with zuljin the next turn, having your weapon removed is kinda more devastating than drawing maly/vereesa/alextrasza before jepetto on a Malygos hunter deck. Since everyone is running a lot of weapon removal (even more than when KaC was out)

Yeah I do agree a lot of decks run weapon removal right now. I have gotten it destroyed a few times. I will for sure try the other version... I can't deny the strength of the combo. I'll report back after I try it tonight :) I appreciate your long response, it's interesting that it's even against both aggro and control.

Another piece of advice might be not to play kripp’s version with Arcane Fletcher. Literally no early responses. I run 2x Masters Call to find Jepetto asap. ( if i have both masters call and jepetto in hand is not the end of the world becouse i often use it on turn 6/7 to sraw alextrasza or Vereesa depending on the situation) amd 2x eplosive traps & 2x unleash the beasts. The best 2 techs against aggro. The rest of he spells are at your choice. Find out what fits your playstyle.
I've never enjoyed playing decks that are totally reliant on drawing a certain card or cards before others (I'm looking at you Jepetto Joybuzz), but the Jepetto Joybuzz/Malygos flavor of this deck is devastating when you get the combo off correctly. I definitely think that Arcane Fletcher instead of Bloodscalp Strategist could be a good substitution, as discovering a spell isn't as useful as drawing through your deck probably is.
On another note, if you want to try a deck with a more reliable Jepetto Joybuzz/Malygos combo, I'm going to shamelessly point you towards my wild hunter OTK deck. It's topic relevant! :P
I know I also don't like those draw this or else type decks. I tried the Galaxy OTK Mage where you have to draw galaxy before Antonidas and it was not very fun.
What do you think of adding 1X Arcane Fletcher in place of the Tracking? Tracking can be good but throws out some potentially important damage spells. I don't have enough 1-cost minions (6 total) to merit 2X Fletcher. I'm worried about the cost of fletcher, too... needs to be played on 5 at earliest when I'd really prefer to coin unleash or baited or weapon hero power/secret. Even when Fletcher goes off I might not draw the needed damage spells, whereas Strategist is cheaper, can be played solo if needed, and I can discover a good spell that fits my needs if I have the bow.
I thought about adding 1X Headhunter's Hatchet so I can have the curve of Shimmerfly or Springpaw into Hatchet into Strategist. This would also be in place of the Tracking.
Yeah, Arcane Fletcher instead of Tracking could be nice. Tracking also has negative synergy with Zul'jin (hate seeing a random card picked every time). This would obv. push your deck in a different direction, but Halazzi, the Lynx is a good draw engine with Arcane Fletcher as well.

That's an awesome idea- I wish Halazzi had Rush so it could act as a Zilliax-like 5 drop. I'm definitely going to remove the Tracking for a Fletcher and try that out. Oh and I don't play Wild btw so I won't be able to try your deck. I can upvote it though :)
What do you think of these changes:
-1 Tracking +1 Arcane Fletcher
-2 Eaglehorn Bow +2 Headhunter's Hatchet to help curve into Strategist
@Chessplayer - thanks for sharing- looks very much like mech hunter- Mana Reservoir is cool, might be cool in a more spell focused deck since I think it might only be good for when you're going for that face damage or to buff Explosive Trap if the opponent ignores it. Got any replays?
Yes I will put some replays in, working on the technical issue 🙃. I had like 4 games where I played 2x mana reservoirs with my spell damage weapon and blasted my opponent for 26 damage just from 2 spells!
Yea I dont get why its not played, like 2 mana sticky minion with a significant ability. Why not?!
Thanks for the feetback

- beasts / strategist
+ Malygos / Jepetto combo
profit

I actually created a similar thing, just fused two hunter archetypes together and got the spellmech hunter.
Work surprisingly well! Have a look:

Appreciate any kind of feedback (even the negative one :D ).
Wanted to share this absolutely nuts game I just had with the updated deck- made a mistake or 2 but won out in the end when I thought all was lost! https://hsreplay.net/replay/qQDEk3MkirTu6MSrBXGkJ3
