played Hearthstone for 7+ hours every day over the past 6 months and the chart in my deck tracker shows 40%+ hunter for every deck that I've played. Around 3500 games. Games were played in r5 to top 200 legend range.
edit: so 40%+ hunter on r5 and under. very possible that at around rank 50-18 there are less hunters.
I am inclined to believe you even without screenshots but remember that the vast majority of games are played under rank 5 so your numbers are not representative for the ladder as a whole. 3500 games is a lot, but other datasources use many more games. As mentioned by others, within those 40% of your games, there are several very different archetypes.
Right now, hunter popularity is sitting between 15% and 30% depending on the ranks. Midrange hunter, as the most popular archetype, is not over 20% of the meta anywhere on the ladder. I would not call that a fiasco, and big changes are coming in a few days.
This game will never be balanced. You can either become the cancer, beat it (and probably lose to anything else), or just lose to it. That's the way it has always been. That's the way it will always be.

another reason why I faced so many hunters might be cuz I was mostly playing either legend dumpster queuing into all the hunters on rank 1 OR i was playing on rank 4-5 which was also quite infested with hunters.
on rank 2-3 and in high legend the queuing experience was more diverse (maybe that's just me)
