Feels that way anyway, and while skill may be a factor I have a far higher win rate with secret hunter, which made me easily climb from 8 to 3. Deathrattle hunter I struggle really hard against anything other than slow control decks like odd warrior. I really don't feel like I stand a chance against aggro with no Wandering Monster, Emerald Spellstone, Explosive Trap, Flanking Strike, Snipe etc.
I also actively beat Deathrattle hunter as secrets can really fuck up their combos. Only class I really have a problem with is druid, but I think switching Professor Putricide for Mossy horror solves that.
Deathrattle hunter is the better deck, it's one of the strongest decks in the game. It shaped the meta we have now. It can have crazy tempo or value with the right plays. DR Hunter is the harder deck to play and still has a higher/similar winrate.
Because the meta now has so much aggro (aggro is good against DR hunter), then secret hunter has a good place because it has nice anti-aggro.
Would really love to know what I'm doing wrong with my Secret Hunter. I run it with Mossy, no Putricide or Shaw. I believe I'm a competent Hunter pilot having played a lot of Spell Hunter, but I just can't seem to catch a break with Secret Hunter. Currently have a 39% WR from 64 matches in Rank 4-5. Would really appreciate some tips or links to matches I can watch and learn from. It feels like I get out tempo'd by just about everything!
Deathrattle is better overall because it can beat both aggressive and defensive decks. You have oodles of value, tons of tempo and enough removal options to come back from a bad spot.
Secret Hunter can nobwall faster, but against control decks it relies entirely on Rexxar. It also doesn't work nearly as well against Druids, which Deathrattle excels at. BOth decks are strong and competitive, but DR Hunter is more flexible.

I cant really compare the two of them, as I dont play much of deathrattle hunter, or at least the classic decklists. As for Secret Hunter, for me it performs very well. I play Bearshark which can snowball the druid matchup easily in your favour. In aggro matchups it feels better than Deathrattle Hunter (my builds at least) because of secrets and spellstone. As for warrior you stand a chance only if you draw Rexxar while with deathrattle Hunter you can win without it because of cubes. Now that control mage is slightly back in the meta, maybe playing deathrattle Hunter is better overall though.
I think it all depends on the meta. The key cards in Deathrattle Hunter were all introduced last year, but it didn't become a top-tier deck until the meta slowed down. It has a very explosive mid-game and decent late-game potential thanks to the DK. However, the early game is where it is weak: if you don't find the Egg, you're not doing much until turn 5.
Secret Hunter gets started a lot quicker and has more answers to aggro. However, most of the secrets in Standard don't do anything unless an opponent attacks, so an opponent that has a lot of taunts and/or removal can just wait it out and not attack until the mana curve favors them.

Without playing the deck myself (but playing a lot against it), I would say that what you do wrong is not including Houndmaster Shaw. That dude singlehandedly enables you to trade through a lot of taunts, activate your cubes, has synergy with Flanking Strike etc. I cannot think of a single reason (other than not having him) to not include the card.

Post yer decklist, Harry.
I started off with this deck - I already had all the cards except Subject 9 and Secretkeeper from when I played Spell Hunter and Midrange Hunter. The deck has strong stats on HSreplay - 55% WR L7 days @ rank Legend-5:
An hour or so ago I found an interesting alternative that also has strong stats on HSreplay - a new deck that is only a few days old (stats wise) which has a 61.5% WR @ ranks Legend-5:
My abysmally sad stats are (@ ranks 4-5): Secret Hunter - 68 matches - 38% WR Secret Tyrant - 9 matches - 33% WR
I feel like I'm getting out valued and out tempo'd by everything - doesn't matter the match up. The opponent always has a slight edge on minions' health vs my att. Full Spellstones get insta-wiped. All I see are answers to every big play I have. A few games ago I played a full Spellstone and THREE Arcane Tyrants - got wiped and it wasn't even AoE.

Well that's my single reason :)
Yeah, I don't have him either, and I know it sucks for the curve, but I run a Rhino as a substitute. Yeah, it's not as good, but it does work and IMO its better than skipping that role altogether, and in some cases its actually works out better.
The HSReplays numbers for each of the viable Hunter decks have been more or less equal for months - depending on the day, one deck might fractionally out-perform the rest, but they are all basically Tier 1.5, with win-rates ranging between 52%-55%. I screenshot the meta page every weekend, because I'm a nerd - DR was the top Hunter deck six days ago, and it looks like Secret is the top deck today.
The thing that is perhaps catching me out is that looking at the L7 days @ ranks Legend-5 the non-Shaw deck (first one I listed) is performing the best out of all decks listed.
I can't get any L7 days intel on Secret Hunter @ rank Legend, but on L30 days my deck is listed 2nd. Though looking at the WR graphs and the rest of the list it looks like that may be a slight misrepresentation of the strength of the deck. I think Shaw would make a big difference, and I probably should craft him. Just been *trying* to save dust for the new expansion LOL
I've hit a wall at 4. Had a run of 7 wins in a row, win-loss-win-loss for a bit, then lost 8 in a row! So many big control decks that just do nothing til turn 8 then mash my face (not really but you get the idea)

I tried having fun once. It was awful.

which ever is better against odd is prolly better
Idk, I enjoy spell hunter more than both. I hate highrolling decks against aggro.
