i can't understand why i need 2xfirefly in the deck, they don't synergize well with the idea of the deck, and i could replace them with witchwood pipers or dire frenzy. i see every recruit hunter deck includes them but i really can't figure why. any ideas?
I think its because you need them in the early game. The meta has Odd Paladin and 1/2 minions help keep the 1/1 silver hand recruits in check so they dont get buffed later on turn 5 and turn into a wall of 3/3 taunts.
You don't "need" them exactly, but they definitely help the early game. I've been playing a recruit hunter that's a bit more top-heavy, and have actually removed the Firefly's in favor of Piper's. This weakens my early game, but gives me more consistency later.
To each his own; firefly's give you an easier early game. Taking them out hurts you're paladin and tempo matchups.
I don't run them in my version of Recruit Hunter but as IDBY said it's because of Odd Paladin but irregardless Odd Paladin is pretty much instaloss unless you draw the nuts like T1 Firefly, T2 Prince, T3 Tar Creeper, T4 Flanking Strike or Houndmaster Shaw or also a Candleshot somewhere in there as well. You basically have to draw perfectly or instaloss. Not a fun matchup that's for sure.
wow surprised by all these super quick responses :)
i have removed them and put in pipers to go from rank 10 to 6 and i felt it was working for me, that's why i was wondering why they are featured in every list.
ok i get the anti-paladin reasoning behind them. from why what i saw so far, its such a bad matchup for me i rather give up on it since i think my odds are very slim to begin with..
Do you think King Krush can be replaced in this deck?
Yes, by Dire Mole...
Snowflipper Penguin has more synergy though.
Haha, when even one's unhelpful sarcastic remarks need to be corrected ... xD
---
To get back to the actual question though - someone suggested Savannah Highmane as a replacement, but that also messes with the Deathrattle of Seeping Oozeling, are there any other suggestions for alternatives? :)

witchwood grizzly probably.
or dunno what I can think of is ultrasaur it's like spitful in stats.
Stop netdecking and think for yourself! Why do you mindlessly copy a deck you don't understand? You are part of the reason why HS becomes stale so quickly...

I like those people, they are free wins since they don't know any strategy and just mindlessly "play cards that match the turn" I had a miracle rogue, coin, prep sprint wothout playing strider first(played a doomsayer in turn 3), easy win.

It will adversely affect your winrate since King Krush is another charge beast. And don't use Savannah Highmane since the deathrattle can screw up your Seeping Oozeling (as already mentioned above).
I'd look for some bigger (8+ mana) beasts as replacements to keep the synergy with the deathrattles of Silver Vanguard and Kathrena Winterwisp .
My first thoughts as a 1:1 replacement as a threat (most only with Kathrena deathrattle like king krush):

Besides that, you could use the space for a tech card.
violet wurm is very bad on current meta since warlock and druid are popular, big drops don't help really since then your deck is very heavy, the whole point is cheating them. dred is fine, it's a quick card sort of, but if you are gonna craft him, might as well craft krush.
mastordon is okeish, might as well play grizzly since it's less a dead card when drawn, but mastordom is better as a cheated card.
ultrasaur is in my opinion better since not many decks can really handle him, druid HAS to use naturalize you else can't kill it efficiently( but the fact that it has 7 attack and not 8.. is quite important (it's a current brake point for some minions atm)
My experience with this deck is that between ranks 10-5 the secret spellstone package variant of recruit Hunter is much more consistent. It works fairly well against both aggro and control. Especially freezing trap against warlock is amazing and you can even rush down a lot of slow decks with the spell stone.

The rest was more a brainstorming. Thinking of it, Violet Wurm is also bad because the Seeping oozleing has another deathrattle you don't want him to get.

just to be clear i'm talking about the prince version (hence the pipers)

If you are in your first year of playing please read this post.
Dust does not burn a hole in the jar. Be careful what you craft, especially before and right after a rotation.
Fireflies help against aggro by giving tempo. Feel free to swap them out if they aren’t working for you.

Yes, by Dire Mole...
Also helps if you run Hunter's Mark. The Fireflys act as additional Candleshots in a way.
Savannah Highmane is the next best thing but King Krush is much more important.
Snowflipper Penguin has more synergy though.
good synergy with prince keleseth also a turn 2 play instead of missing 2 drop.

My first thoughts as a 1:1 replacement as a threat (most only with Kathrena deathrattle like king krush):
Swamp King Dred
Violet Wurm
Giant Mastodon
or the above mentioned Ultrasaur .
Non beast (and thus only combinable with silver vanguard):Sleepy DragonYseraDeathwingBesides that, you could use the space for a tech card.

Sure. I assumed that the Witchwood Grizzly is already included (like The Lich King ).
