It is a cool effect. Lore-wise, he is a corrupted dragon, which makes more sense in hunter than druid. Not every card a class gets needs to necessarily be a competitive card, we don't even know that this won't be competitive, but it only takes a few good cards to take a class from trash tier to broken.
So I packed this card in my preorder packs this expansion, I contemplated dusting it, but I decided to try it out first and I love this card more than I thought I would, I made an even dragon deck, and though not being the most consistent it is super fun, and if you Emeriss your big dragons and don't die, the opponent will suffer your true power. Sure it isn't top meta perfection, but it's not unplayable by any means.
I've been trying to make Emeriss work in a Fun Deck, nothing competitive... just something satisfying you can pull off dropping some big minions on the board. Anyways, here it is... I'm still trying to optimize the deck so feel free to add constructive feedback.
Sure, I will note I am trying him in wild, as he is already inconsistent enough to try him in Standard with less options lol. The point is to mulligan for your beasts/Netherspite for early game, whilst cheaply shooting face, and keeping the board clear for your deathrattles and dragons. I have had a lot of fun honestly, and I'm sure there are ways to improve it. I have that super slow Dr. 8 for big last minute heals but I know taunts or more dragons would probably be more useful, but meh, I like his card art.
Fair point, I am constantly tweaking the same as I go up on ladder, and I find better combos, but it is a fun deck and people don't normally expect Emeriss, which is understandable.
Sometimes you have to give classes that don't make much sense for them to have in order to create new archtypes. I remember when priests were first given dragon cards to create the dragon priest archtype. Priests never had any type of archtype that was like that deck before, yet we see how well it eventually turned out to be.
Yes and no, it's tricky and isn't always perfect, but buffing all my dragons in hand and then playing deathwing, then fills the board with ultra buff dragons. and sometimes when facing aggro and getting beat down, the ooze grabbing deathwing's deathrattle will put Emeriss into play adding to a big board. Again I am still tweaking this deck, but having Deathwing come back from N'zoth is also very fun. I will be trying other Emeriss decks in the future, perhaps a variation of C'thun.
This is the first xpac of the rotation and we haven't even seen half the cards of witchwood yet.. It will still probably remain a meme card but we never know.
As for Druid, god knows what kind of shit it could've pulled in wild with this + Aviana, it would have been beyond broken
Aviana thun but EMeriss doubles the c'thunn or quadruples it if you ahve brann in play, in fact if it was a druid card, Kun+aviana+Emeris+Bran+C'thun would yield a 24/24 C'thun that would shoot 48 missiles without even having other c'thun minions in the deck
Speaking as someone who got this as his free legendary, I'm not glad I opened it, BUT I'm glad it's in the game. I eventually came to the conclusion that the only way an effect as powerful as Emeriss could be in the game is if it were for a class that couldn't use it to its maximum potential by default.
Despite it being a Hunter Legendary, there are plenty of ways to get this card as other classes, which is why I think they made the card in the first place (such as Sindragosa, Prince Liam, Face Collector, Swamp Dragon Egg, Bone Drake, burgle effects, etc). It's one of those cards that's too slow to actually put in your deck, but when it pops up in the middle of a game, it makes for some really fun matches.
I don't think I saw anyone mention it but any Emeriss deck should also play Leeroy. With 2x Stitched Tracker you have a good chance to get double Leeroy or double Emeriss which is a 24 damage combo that doesn't involve too many cards.
It's not 30 damage, but you're also playing Hunter. They should be below 24 health by the time you do this. That is why Emeriss works well in Hunter.
I think they wanted it to be in the game so that it was a possible result from "add a random dragon to your hand" cards, but they couldn't put it in a class with actual dragon synergy (priest) or multiple ways of cheating out big minions (druid), because it would be too good. So they put it in hunter, where it could exist as a card of occasionally lucky plays (when my Lady In White dragon priest gets Emeriss off a Swamp Dragon Egg it's happy fun time) without being oppressive.
Meh, this card is just bad in hunter and I agree with YourPrivateNightmare. But everybody here is talking about card only and where it should belong. Maybe we should talk about effect alone and what it should be to make control dragon Hunter viable?
I have an idea: "Battlecry: Summon all friendly Dragons that died this game." We have Bloodreaver Gul'dan and Hadronox, but those cards are powerful mostly because they buffed already existing archetypes (taunt druid and demolock). There is no such thing like dragon Hunter (no synergy) so it wouldn't be that powerful, but that's what a control hunter needs. Strong late game effect which need some deckbuilding (u need dragons, dragons are expensive and need slots in deck). Less aggro, more control, some funny combos (like Swamp Dragon Egg + Play Dead).
He fits perfectly in line with a long tradition of useless big guys for a class lacking draw, defensive tools and removal.
I am more sad they nerfed Call of the Wild right before the pirates of MSG would have made the card uselss anyway, leaving Hunter in the dumpster for a long time. Deathstalker Rexxar finally succeded at changing the hunter heropower after several failed attempts.

Even i think a 10 mana Hunter Card is a joke.
But what if you are playing a Mid range hunter Deck and it get pushed to the late game .
Obviously you wont stand a chance against a Control match up.
So what if there is a card that will allow you to Buff up your Low power-Level Minions , so you can Sustain a bit longer.
While writing this i understand how ridiculously Naive i am , but it's a maybe

How about Sharing your Creation , Coz i got one through Pre order , And super bummed about it at the moment

<pre class="codeStyle">Oh Thank you, Cool concept but for me it's "Dust Needed: 3,600"
Which is a bit too much to spend on Wild, but understandable for a Control Deck.
Fair point, I am constantly tweaking the same as I go up on ladder, and I find better combos, but it is a fun deck and people don't normally expect Emeriss, which is understandable.
But one small concern though, you have Deathwing, Dragonlord .
Wouldn't that be Anti Synergy ?

Well, i got this out of a pack, so i might as well try it out in Wild, i'm sure something fun can be made.
