The majority of Midrange hunter is from the basic set.
The reason for that being that a lot of hunter's Basic/Classic set is REALLY good. Animal Companion, Savannah Highmane, Kill Command, Houndmaster are all cards that outclass everything at that mana cost, and Eaglehorn Bow and Tundra Rhino are pretty close to that. Hunter has survived for years (especially at lower ranks) on its classic and basic core cards and will continue to do so.
Actually it's because the team working on hearthstone prior to team 5 had intended hunter to be a generally aggro class, so they made its basic set and hero power one that supports that playstyle. But then team 5 took over and since then they tried to make hunter, which had its basic card set tuned for an aggro class - a control class...
So that's why newer cards for hunter usually don't see competitive play, because the newer cards don't mashup with the basic set.
Do you realise that Team 5 could just give hunter some overpowered control tools to make it a control class? We are talking about Team 5 for god sake, they would do anything to force an archetype if they wanted.
As you all know there has been community uproar about To My Side! however some people are defending this card, and just seeing those complains about as salty and unappreciative.
1. To My Side! Looks like it was never play tested. It probably wouldn't even fit in the deck it's designed because you'd rather just play call of the wild and add yogg for memes. Even if the deck were to be played the card is awful value wise and you'd likely lose tempo. It very well may be the worst card ever printed for hunter which is saying a lot.
2. The Hearthstone Developers don't care about hunter giving playable cards for any form of play style. The majority of Midrange hunter is from the basic set. Only Fiery Bat is consistently played from old gods, and infested wolf sometimes will see play. Since Call of the wild got nerfed it hasn't seen much play and the old yogg'n load deck is also dead in wild. Karazhan is probably the best expansion for Hunter that is currently in standard and the best since GvG as it has kindly grandmother along with cat trick and huntress. Sadly this is adventure and so Hunter only got 3 cards. Next we went to Gadgetzan were we got rat pack the only good epic not to be nerfed in hunter and alleycat a decent card but not as good as enchanted raven for druid. The other cards were handcuff which fell flat on its face and even Don'Hancho didn't see play in Warrior or Pally. In Ungoro hunter got shafted only crackling razor maw and jeweled macaw were good enough to see consistent play. Ungoros legendary were also unplayable along with the Epics. In Frozen throne we got bear shark which only fits in because other cards are too weak too see play. They also got some kind of card gain with stitched tracker. Hunters first good legendary was given in Deathstalker Rexxar, but with two bad epics and exploding bloat bat not much support was given towards a good control warrior. To My Side! and Crushing walls are bad but we may see the first good legendary minion for Hunter in hearthstone history in whisperwind. TO compare to other classes Hunter gets one to two good cards per expansion while priest warlock get insane amounts of good cards.
3. It is quite possible To My Side is a preview of cards to come which is a shame because there is not enough early summoning a minion cards too make the deck work. Also there is no board wipes or card draw so the no minion card would basically have to be a win condition.
The trolls here acre actually the people that dont understand This card and why its costed like it is. This is not random. You can take alwaysw 2 huffer or 2 mishas with it. And people saying this would be fine without restriction just dont get, that this is not random.
And plz dont tell me 2x 4/2 charge beast for 6 would be balanced because it would be broken AF, like 1000 times better leeroy you could run 2 off.
this card imo needs a heavy downside but most people here have no clue why for some reason not able to read and understand cards text.
This card is just pure pure garbage...if you compare to playable build-your-deck-around cards like Prince, Reno, Kaza, Raza...the effect better be out of this world especially when you're asking a class that traditionally rely on minions. The maddening thing is that if you print these garbage cards for Druid or Priest then i think people won't be that angry but you're giving to a class that is already mid-bottom tier.
Once again Blizz has no idea what they're doing in terms of balance. They're not printing any new cards for other classes to fight the tier one decks like Jade/Big Druid, Raza/Big Priest...They DID do something against Prince decks by creating lots of new AOEs BUT to the WRONG classes...Priest doesn't need more AOEs...Druid doesn't need more freaking ramps...the meta would be much more refreshing if you give these classes something else other than making those decks even stronger...there's almost no other reason to steer away from Raza/Big priest except maybe Dragon priest....Druid will continue to play their ramp game.
Ok. So I see a lot of people defending the card, and those attacking it. It seems the argument can be brought to "Its rubbish" and "Maybe one day a minionless deck can be good in hunter and this card will be decent". What people don't seem to get, is that even if that awesome minionless deck will exist, the design of the card is still worth being angry about. Or pretty much, why should such a card be so restrictive in card design, when the pay-off is not so good.
Other cards which restrict your deck (Reno JacksonRaza the ChainedKazakusPrince Keleseth) do it, but then they give you a huge pay-off for it. They are interesting powerful cards, which may require more creativity in deck building (laughing by myself knowing everyone just netdecks). This card just gives you a decent effect for a huge cost.
But above all, what people feel very frustrated is why can you only play this interesting card in only one deck archetype. Why should Hunter be given a card, that you can't use right now. Let us assume they made the card just "summon two animal companions". Would it still see play? Would it be broken? It is very hard replacing Savannah Highmane (and would also be cool to have an alternative to that on the 6 mana cost slot). Maybe play both cards, but if you have so much late game, it is already competing with possible Bonemare. So that card is already fighting with great cards. Would be nice to have some creativity in hunter.
But people ague that there can exists a future Tier 1 or Tier 2, minionless deck in the future. Well great. This is still a spell. This would still be played in that deck. Why can't they be played in both, decks with and without minions? Why can't it just say "if you have no minions in your decks it costs (2) less mana". But make it playable. This card could be so interesting and fun NOW, what I don't understand why we need to wait for a whole new archetype to play around with it. Or, if they really wanted to make this such a restrictive deck, why they didn't give it a much better pay off, to make it so crazy, we were glad you could not put that in any deck.
I don't know. I just feel this card is not powerful enough to compensate the restrictions right now. And would have been nice that this card was at least playable in a normal hunter deck. Or at least the pay off to have been so crazy good, that when you create that minionless deck and play this in turn 6 you say to yourself "That was AWESOME!", and not just a slightly worst Call of the Wild.
OMEGALUL hunter is the most shitty class of the game. Uninteresting - boring - annoying. Nothing more. Hunter is just unhealthy for the game, it should not even exist. Stupid hero power - stupid mechanics - always face - always the same fucking deck, with animal companion t3 hound master t4 savannah highmane t6. For once blizzard is totally right by making this and i thank them

Dude this is not random its an 6 mana 8/4 charge beast if you want or a 8/8 taunt for 6 mana, how would that be balanced without a downside?
The times when Hunter has been dominant in the meta hearthstone is a disaster. Matches are decided purely on whether the hunter has a 1 and a 2 drop. After that it proceeds to put the opponent on the clock with hero power and kill command, and other assorted chip damage that usually comes straight form the hand. Games are decided by the hunters mulligan, then maybe 1 in 5 games other factors come in to play (e.g. did they topdeck quickshot turn 7? whoop-dee-do).
Hunter cards suck becuase they have to suck for the health of the game, until blizzard cracks how to produce hunter cards that assist it in control without aiding its natural leaning towards aggression. Or they just accept defeat and change the hero power - They keep trying to print cards that override it...even Justicarr's upgrade was toned down. Maybe just grow a pair and adjust it permanently?

Ok. You are probably right. But like I also said, it is fine to make it not broken in its normal effect, but better than useless. Say, for example, make it random, but not random if you don't have minions in your deck.
EDIT: Apparently it has been concerned that IT IS random.
To keep hearthstone healthy they cant push hunters.Hunter already has alot of oppressing tools such as hero power and kill command.cheap minions and some adapts can be distruptive. People won't ever admit it because they like to drop things for cheap and me go face. But this is the truth.

The card IS RANDOM. It has been confirmed. Stop spreading the false information about you can summon 2 Huffers for 6 mana. The first minion is random of the 3, the second is random from the remaining two that are not summoned.

To be honest, is it really that hard? All they need to do is introduce a new hero power for each class. The hero power is to be selected with the deck that cannot be changed at the start of game. You select that deck and thats the hero power you get.

Trust me, there's a plan for this card. Minion-less hunter will be a thing. Maybe not this expansion, but it'll be competitive at one point.

Logically speaking there will always be one ‘the worst’ card in each class and one ‘the worst’ card in Hearthstone.
If that card is not To My Side, which card should it be?
So to ruin your thread even more: Cards are not suppose to be equally good. They will print strong, interesting, weak and boring cards each set.
Live with it or leave the game.
