With the slew of lacklustre hunter cards previewed so far and the weapon yet to be revealed, figured brainstorming would be interesting. Hunters have been desperately lacking a good new weapon for a very long time so here is my take on an appropriate weapon for Hunter decks.
The 4 mana was chosen as it's generally the least varied mana slot for hunter decks, with hunters having good 3's already and expanding good options for 5's. Hunter's lack any real means of sustain especially if you rely on weapons for board control so the immunity effect helps with that. Also considered giving the weapon lifesteal for the same reasons.
The Deathrattle serves to synergise with the recent direction they want to push hunter decks while serving as a nostalgic throwback to the inspiration for the weapon while also not getting completely blown out with ooze effects. The card would be clearly very powerful and I also considered adding a "Cannot attack heroes" clause for balance while still retaining it as a tool for maintaining board control for hunters.
Honestly all hunter weapons should have immune, doesn't make sense to shoot a guy with a bow from 80 ft and somehow get injured.
I completely agree. In the WoW TCG hunters had the same mechanic called "Long Range". This mechanic would also address hunters biggest issue, a lack of healing. Often having to rely on an Eaglehorn Bow to clear out enemy minions would feel like a complete waste of a turn with how frail you feel playing hunter.
