I am by no means the first person to think of the deck idea of Watcher Druid. It was around in Classic, and each expansion and adventure it has received a card here or there to make it slightly more viable (Wailing Soul, Ogre Brute, Darnassus Aspirant). I had re-tried the deck every expansion but kept getting mediocre results. Now with the final wing of LoE released I think (hope!) this deck might just be ladder playable.
Eerie Statue: It's obvious why it fits in this deck, but I want to explain why it is so exceptional here.
First, it's the last threat the deck needed. Previously Ancient Watcher and Ogre Brute only got you so far. Given all the support cards needed to make the deck work, it didn't have room for combo or a lot of the traditional threats Druid would play. And if you did start adding those...you might as well make a normal ramp or combo druid.
Second, it's a BGH target. It's big enough to be a threat, but the tempo loss (them spending 3 mana to counter your 4) isn't nearly as bad as losing more expensive minions is.
Icehowl: This card is a perfect fit for the deck. It provides you with some late-game removal. However, he can't be ignored afterward as you usually have the ability to turn him into a 10-damage face battering ram. Icehowl has won me a significant number of games because of this flexibility.
Ragnaros the Firelord: Similar to Icehowl above, Ragnaros the Firelord offers a form of removal or finishing damage. And also like Icehowl you can also get rid of his weakness. If players can't get rid of Ragnaros the Firelord they spam the board with minions in order to lessen his effect, especially if they are facing lethal if he hits face. Once again, self-silence comes to the rescue.
Nice deck overall, but with so many silences I would also consider Deathlords and Fel Reavers. I understand that you can use the 2 Defender of Argus and the Sunfury Protector as a means to activate the "can't attack" creatures or at least make them reactive, but both Defender of Argus and Sunfury Protector are anti-synergistic with the Wailing Souls. I would try some minimal corrections and see how they perform.
Well, let me explain my reasoning:
Deathlord: This is a possibility. I'd view it more as an anti-aggro tech if it was needed. I don't have much of a fondness for Deathlord due to the random "oops you lose" aspect when it pulls a nasty legendary at the wrong time.
Fel Reaver: Does not fit at all. First, the deck isn't aggressive enough to make use of it. Second, this deck is very very dependent on two-card combos, and milling away your silences would just doom you.
As for the anti-synergy between silences and taunt-givers, I have yet to have a single game where it mattered. I've overwritten a few taunts here and there, but truthfully when you're doing that it's because you're shifting to the offense and trading anyway. Getting to pick the trades is usually better than just taunting it up and hoping.
What? No discussion of one of the best, albeit expensive, combos in Silence Druids? Play Force of Nature, attack, then play Wailing Soul. The Treants do not die at the end of the turn.

That one is a 10 mana combo and often times you have already used both your Wailing Souls before that point in the match. I do run FoNs as well though, but I think OP's approach is more geared towards midrange/lategame.
But that's the nice part of the combo; both cards help the deck without the other.
