I just tried the my old Star Aligner deck, without any change, and I pulled off the combo with The Coin. That is obviously not a reliable way to do it, but there should be plenty of other ways to pull it off!
1: The most obvious way is to include Innervate and play the combo with one more card. 2: Emperor Thaurissan is also possible, but might be too slow, and needs to hit Aviana 3: Flobbidinous Floop the turn before will set up a 4-mana Aviana next turn. 4: Twig of the World Tree is also a possibility, but probably too weak in Wild.
What about the fishing mechanics? 1: Alexstrasza might be a good card with the combo now, as you will draw her for free with Juicy Psychmelon 2: 2x Juicy Psychmelon makes sure you still have a fairly consistant way to fish out your whole combo. 3: Ancient Harbinger might be another way to fish out the extra 10-drop, with a body attatched. 4: Is it an option to run Ultimate Infestation? Probably not, one of the best draw cards in the game might still be too weak for this combo deck, mostly because the combo itself fills up your hand.
The decks will obviously not be tier S anymore, but will people still be able to go to legend with Malygos, King Togwaggle or Star Aligner or possibly even C'Thun versions? I think it is quite probable...
it's nowhere near dead. people already played 2 juice for the 7 drops in Aligner. you are just gonna need an Innervate that's it. Juice definetely needed a nerf blizzard just didn't wanna admit they fucked up. and fucked up they did with that idiotic card.
i DE aviana to craft odd warrior, so if it does thrive then not only did i lose that deck, but now i play a deck that will be worse as long as combo druid is in the meta.
*edit* nevermind! i am playing standard! ^^

Rejoice, for even in death, you have become children of Thanos.
It's pretty simple. If your deck doesn't have an Innervate, cut the weakest card and include one copy. If you can afford to, cut the two weakest cards and add two Innervates. Might lose a little of the stalling and defensive potential depending on what's cut to make room, and if you have one copy of Innervate you may need to delay a little longer until you draw it. Otherwise, the combos are very much alive.
I unfortunately don't have either Kun or Aviana, as I just didn't play a lot back then and therefore never opened a lot of either set they come from. However, I've been considering crafting both for a long time now. Even with the nerf, I'm still considering crafting them both.
Oh man, people really like to underestimate what Juicy psychemelon does for the combo. It's not as simple as "put innervate in your deck and it'll be just the same". Aviana was the 9 drop for the psychemelon pull so now we have 2 10 drops and 0 9s. Instead of having the full combo by just playing psychemelon we need to draw psychemelon, innervate and the 2nd 10 drop. That's 200% more things required to be drawn before you combo off. The strength of the deck used to be the fact that you're combo killing the opponent on turn 6 and 7 before they can even draw a rat
I've actually just swapped to playing standard Tog druid in wild now. 10 mana aviana is simply inferior to Twig and florist in this instance. This obviously won't work for combos that use more than 2 minions but for Tog druid, the standard combo package with some wild support cards should be the best build for now
How is Floop a backup for Kun if he gets pulled?? Floop doesn't copy your Kun if he's pulled from hand without being played. Floop is in there as an extra star aligner
Maybe after a couple more months T5 will realize that they should have actually nerfed the melon after all. I keep telling people that Aviana Kun decks did not see consistent tier 1 or tier 0 play on ladder before melon was printed & then they make this strange epic that has no strong play in standard yet people theorized for weeks in wild before it came out.
Why even make a weak standard card & then nerf a wild only card just to release said tutor effect?
I am still playing Star Aligner. (bio project - > innervate and Loatheb - > emp-T) If anything, I think it's more fun now. You can get badly hosed by mill or rat which is nothing new.
Melon was (and still is) the busted piece of the puzzle. "Draw most of your combo" is still good enough.
AK forever, I guess.
Blizzard shat the bed. Melon will eventually get hit, too.
I am interested to know how many turns it took you to pull off the combo. I assume it is much slower now?
It is much slower. Used to be turn 6-7ish. Now it's more like 11 or 12. I hold a melon until I have drawn either Avi or Kun. I don't know if that's the best strategy yet. Usually have less than 20 life left instead of more than 40.
Reached Rank 3 last season pretty much only with the Majordomo+Clockwork and I must admit that pulling the combo off now with the innervate is really god damned hard man. Plus now it’s really hard to draw the combo aswell with 3 10 mana cards. Kinda sad that they pretty much star-aligned some fun combos to the twisting nether, but oh well, back to playing Reno Hunter.

And that's the big difference: yes, people are playing now 2 juicy psychmelon AND Innervate OR Emperor or whatever. BUT there is a big difference between then, when you just need to draw the combo and win the game (not hard with a guaranteed draw from psychmelon) OR if you need additional support: more support means more turns means that you might be probably dead.
This nerf tuned down the combo without totally destroying it. BUT as ALL other combo decks, you now need additional support for it.

Are Aviana+Kun the Forgotten King combos really dead? They might not be...

The deck before the nerf was an insanely OP BS deck should never exist.
After the nerf is a very strong and competitive combo deck.
i really hope it is dead.

Legend with : S65 Freeze Mage, S57 Maly Gonk Druid, S57 "Okay" Shaman, S53 Boom-zooka Hunter, S53 Maly Tog Druid, S52 Wild Tog Druid ft.Blingtron, S50 Quest Rogue, S49 Dead Man's Warrior, S41 Wild Clown Fiesta Druid, S41 Hadronox Jade Druid, S40 Wild OTK Dragon Druid, S35 SMOrc Shaman, S33 Jade Druid, S22 Control Priest, S19 Control Priest
As long as there is Flobbidinous Floop and Innervate I don't think this combo will die. People already used to run Floop as a backup if Kun the Forgotten King gets pulled from Dirty Rat.

ofcourse you can innervate but NOW juicy pscychmelon dont give you kun and aviana in one draw because they 10 mana both, so that's why its nerf.
You can play Aviana, let it die, then next turn play Flooped Aviana for 4 mana, at which point you don't need Kun to combo

Is it still viable: YES
Is it still overpowered: NO

they're still strong but you no longer autogrant yourself full pieces of the combo on t4 since there are no 9s left on the deck
