Can I get some explanations of why a druid would use a Raven Idol on Turn 1 before their opponent even had a turn? Wouldn't you want to at least know something about the deck you are playing? The only reason I'd think to use it that early would be to prep for Yogg?
Any info?
I don't do this, but have had opponents do it while playing against me.
well you can sorta fix your opening hand if you are planning a curve, and add spells vs aggro or minions vs control i guess.
I guess most often it's because they couldn't get an Enchanted Raven or Living Roots in their opening hand and don't want to risk losing a turn. If they run Malygos they might want to keep the latter just for the massive cheap burst in the late game and therefore rather use turn one for the idol

Most of the time a druid will Raven Idol for a spell. The good thing (for the druid) is that most of their spells are universally good. Swipe, innervate, wrath, and living roots to name a few. The benefit of playing it turn 1 is the druid doesn't have to sacrifice 1 mana later on and is much more efficient for them.
You usually know what deck are you playing against and there are spells you want in most matchups (wild growth, innervate). You shouldn't mulligan for it but is worth playing in turn one if you dont have any other play.
It might be they feel it's better to Raven Idol as opposed to doing nothing, particularly if their mulligan was trash. I would say the majority of the time it's probably not a great play, but I can see a few extreme situations where it might be ok. If you are playing against a Shaman for instance, there's no need to try and decipher what deck he is playing. The same can be said for Rogue or Warlock for the most part as well...go ahead and Raven for a spell you can use later.
It really depends on your hand if you want to raven idol turn 1 or not. I would say 90% of the time your choice is pretty obvious anyway based on what you already have in your hand, so it doesn't hurt to use it on turn 1 unless your hand already has a solid curve. It all depends on your hand and the hero you are playing against(in case that hero has a lot of different variants.)
Thanks. I understand the theory. Usually I'll see it vs the homebrew Rogue deck I use which is a combo of N'Zoth and Peddler stuff - usually casual, because well it doesn't do great vs Shaman. But when it works that deck sure is fun.
I guess my personal preference is always to have an option based on how the game goes, but I understand looking to smooth out a curve or to just use the mana too.
You don't care about the opponent : when you Raven Idol on T1 it's beacause you are searching for Wild Growth and Innervate
This. If I get a crappy initial hand but there is a raven idol I will keep it and throw away the rest. If I don't get back any ramp I will search for it with raven idol on T1.

There is no cancer deck in hearthstone ! You are the Cancer !

Druids do that mainly because of Arcane Giant

If I'm holding Innervate, I go for a spell, namely Astral Communion or a different ramp spell if not available.
