So I just pulled Acidmaw from a pack, not golden or else I would be more willing to dust it. However as it stands I am wanting to test it out . Does anyone have any success stories with this card? I feel like an obvious turn 10 would be acidmaw with unleash the hounds. But I cannot see it being outstanding unless there is something I missed. So go ahead, sell him to me, or tell me why 400 dust is a better use of my time.
Not even as a Control Hunter would I want to play a 7 mana (!) 4/2 (!) with a potential (!) boardclear that can backfire horribly to boot (in the form of killing my own minions or locking me out of playing anything until it dies).
I'm really not sure what they were thinking, even the obvious two card combo with Dreadscale is awful. Though speaking of Dreadscale, that's one awesome card on paper. If Control Hunter ever becomes a thing I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a staple.
Bad card is bad, the stats are awful and the efect is not impressive specially for hunter as a class, hell, even if hunter had a 1 mana whirlwind effect this card would be a strictly worst twisting nether so no, the worm is not worth your time. If you are feeling fancy with hunter you better off taking the feign death route.
no, hunter will never get a decent legendary this is just a way to mess up ram weggler and webspinner.
This card would be ok .. maybe if it only affected enemy minions.. might have been insta win in arena sometimes but at least it would justify it's cost.. or.. it could cost way less...
I am not usually one to bag on cards. I found after the first expansion that a lot of my judgements were wrong and what many people also thought was way off.
Now with Acidmaw I kept thinking what am I missing. Then I started thinking yeah maybe just wait it might be good after a couple cards come out. I haven't seen anyway to make it worth a damn yet. So expensive, body is garbage, ability is nice but I just don't see it.
Now I don't dust legendaries. Well I take that back I have gotten a couple golden legendaries over the years and dusted them because they were very mediocre and made Rag and Boom with the dust.
I don't know yet to dust my golden Acidmaw. I know they don't buff cards but it seems so bad I would hate to dust it and then have gotten a lot more for it or just decided to use it. That is literally how bad it seems to me. I can't wait for someone to prove me wrong.
Dreadscale is good, I've been playing him in a Mid Hunter with some. He actually seems to be better as a late game drop to either clear an aggro board or weaken a fairly solid board before playing other options. Dropping him early game works, but you never get more than one use out of him. I've found he becomes much more viable later in the game especially when your opponent inevitably over-extends with few cards in their hand (in the case of aggro).
Acidmaw I wouldn't bother with. Got him once out of a drop (think it was Ram Wrangler) and he was okay in that specific situation but only because I didn't actually have to play him.
I do feel like his effect is solid even if it kills your own minions but hunters don't have enough aoe to warrant the board clear potential. But it might just not work
The problem with the card for me, is the cost. Sure, the effect is great, even if it's asymmetrical; for a Mage it would be understandable for it to cost 7 mana, as they can now ping-kill everything, but for a Hunter? Never.
This fine could have been fine, if not great for 3-4 mana. Any more than that is a ripoff.
So far the only other use of Acidmaw I've found was t6 Ball of Spiders, t7 Acidmaw because usually your opponent wouldn't want to trade into spiders, and then bam, you clear their board and get three random beasts. IMO this beast should be a lot fatter to justify the 7 cost.
It might be a sleeper if hunter gets more control oriented cards. (Something to change their hero power to a more defensive one to go full control.) As of now its okay-ish, but it has no place in the midrange and face archetypes played in TGT.
It's really difficult to say, because Acidmaw+Unleash the Hounds is among the best combos in the game, and many hunter spells and minions utilize pecking damage at enemy minions.
But ya, the cost. You really can't call it garbage because of how great it is if you get momentum, but you really have to build a deck around it.
Are you insane? equality consecrate is far more effective and does the same only for 6 mana, for 10 mana most classes outright kill you in a combo. so no, acidmaw + unleash is nowhere near the best combos.
That's why I said "one of the best". "One Of." Think before you type.
Anyways I forgot to mention other frequents to the hunter deck such as Knife Juggler and Haunted Creeper. The prospect for control Hunter is there, allowing you full board control as you slowly pick away with your hero power and whats left on the board, it just seems bizarre and costly. Hopefully someone will make a good one one day though.
I was thinking in conjunction with each emperor, which doesn't see play in many Hunter decks that there would be some synergy. I'm probably gonna create a deck and give it a little bit of attention
His brethen Dreadscale is much better option for board cleaning in my opinion. Acidmaw being a 7 mana minion with garbage stats and an effect that cannot be triggered by itself means that the only place you'll find him are combo/control decks and hunter is a terrible class for those deck types imo. As a hunter you'll never need to be the one who's cleaning the board unless you've done something wrong. So yeah, keep it if you aren't in short of dust or just disenchant it cuz you're not gonna want to use it any time soon.

Utter garbage.

I have pulled a regular and a golden.
