can someone tell me why bumping Leeroy from 4 mana to 5 mana effectively killed its dominance in a lot of decks? I know that it doesn't have as much combo ability as it once did but it is still very useful to finish off an opponent when they are close to death.
6 damage is nice, but it's now definitely over-priced. Fireball is 4 mana. 5 damage in the form of things like Kill Command is 3 mana. Leeroy is a very fragile taunt that makes enemy minions for 5... Maybe if he ignored taunt or no longer made the 1/1s, it would be okay. The reason Leeroy was so popular was that he combo'd with Shadowstep, that he could be run with power-overwhelming and faceless in Handlock, that at 4 mana he could easily be played in conjunction with other cards for a grand finisher. By making it cost 1 more, it slows all of those plays down a turn, making them less effective in aggro and tempo decks. You can still occasionally play Leeroy in FaceHunter or Aggro Paladin, but in almost all of the other decks, his complete loss of combo-ability has made him a fairly dead card.
Now clearly this isn't it but there was basically around 30 points of damage from an empty board and a dagger in hand. Massive outcry, nerf bats called for, Blizz concedes the point then gets slated for it, the usual dramas. By increasing his cost to 5 mana this prevented the ridiculous combo (or similar) as seen above and then came Miracle Rogue.
More importantly than this however was the constant fucking noise the card makes and when you get "Leeeeeeeeeeeroooooyy Jeeeeeehhhhhhnkiiiiinsssssaaaaaah!" 3 times in the same turn, for the 5th game running you felt like physically gouging your eardrums out.

Honestly Patron's voice line is nothing compared to Leeroy's, especially given it's relatively rare that when you hear it you're completely doomed the way you are when you hear leeroy's.
So Leeroy was key in miracle rogue, but in my opinion making him 5 mana from 4 wasn't the nail in the coffin, it was making Gadgetzan Auctioneer 6 mana instead of 5. The combination of those two changes killed the old miracle rogue. Drawing into the combo was so important and having to wait an extra turn or two would basically cost you the game. I mean people who didn't have Leeroy would play arcane golem and while it wasn't as good, it still did the trick most of the time. Really I think it was changing Gadgetzan that was the main issue.
Currently I am running him in my facehunter as some have said he can still be useful, but I was thinking about dropping him into a couple of other decks that I was going to try him out, other than my deck I just hadn't seen him in anything, and I appreciate the explanations, I just think in such an Aggro heavy meta, I thought he might see more play

5 mana for a fireball that can't hit around taunts? No thanks.
The only thing Leeroy had going for him (outside of Face Hunter) was his combo ability.
Have a great deck that's really, really cheap? Help the new players out

There was a time in the mists of yore...or something where Rogue used to have a Leeroy, Shadowstep, Leeroy, Shadowstep, leeroy, Cold Blood, Cold Blood, preperation, hit face with weapon, Sap combo.
