A lot of people are down on this card. I get it, you have to spend an entire turn to play it, really bad if you can't afford the tempo loss. But think about it like this: you slot in Pocket Galaxy, Alexstrasa, Antonidis, and Malygos, and you have some serious game ending power here, a real win condition. The entire rest of your deck can focus on surviving, freezing, wiping the board, and stalling.
As soon as you play Pocket Galazy, you can win the game on the spot on a future turn. This gives the deck strong matchups against other combo decks and control decks. If you can make it good enough VS Aggro, this could be an S tier deck. Cards like baleful banker become very strong, because if you draw Antonidis too soon you can put it back in the deck, ensuring you have a strong late game against other late game decks.
You can spend 4 card slots to have a definitive win condition, it seems worth it to me. Against other control/combo decks you can even mulligan for Pocket Galaxy and keep it in your starting hand.
I agree. And I hate OTK mage. It's so utterly boring to go against someone that just freezes your minions every turn while they draw their combo. I will abhor pocket galaxy.
I agree, the effect of LPG is extremely powerful, if you build your deck around it (and the meta gives you time to play it, which is a big if). You need to big, minion-based deck with Book of Specters and/or Stargazer Luna for draw. LPG is also high variance though, you can draw your big minions before playing it.
Interestingly, this is the story of the expansion - many players, including pros, are totally split on what cards are good/bad. For example, Trump thinks all mechs are garbage, but Rdu thinks they’re completely broken. It will be really interesting to see how things pan out.
You're ignoring the obvious flaw with this card which is that it doesn't discount your hand, so if you draw any of those cards before you draw and can play Pocket Galaxy - remember you're not necessarily going to play it the second you can because if you don't have the board at that time or are at low health due to an opposing aggro deck or something then playing it would be suicide - then your combo potential is slowed greatly.
I'm not saying the card is bad. I agree - it could be a really potent combo tool. OP though? It's a 7-mana spell that does nothing the turn it's played in a meta where that sort of thing can be extremely difficult to get away with.
I'm going to run it in my BSM. Even just getting Alanna to 1 mana could make a huge tempo swing with a board clear before playing her in the same turn.
It's a very interesting card, but I think it would be hard to build an otk deck around it, at least in standard without ice block.
Try this deck! Grand Archivist and the Bright-Eyed Scout makes for crazy synergy. I reached rank 4(from 18) with this, I'm now trying for legend! No combos needed, I've been able to beat pretty much any meta deck. The only 2 decks I have trouble with are the Malygos Druid combo, and the Malygos Rogue combo, but even there it's a 50/50 when you learn the decks. I've been away from standard for a while. Hadronox can be a pain too. Pretty much anything else is favored odds. I remember losing twice to Odd Pally in the whole season.
That card is just as good as a 7 mana Prince Keleseth. Or in realistic terms, The Mistcaller and Lady in White. OP in theory if you can pull it off, but in practice you're at the mercy of rng way too badly for it to reliably work.
I mean, you could also try to do the otk normally - with simulacrum, leyline and molten reflection- and the pocket galaxy can be a card that accelerates that combo.
edit: you were "banking" on drawing Luna's first, but since you didn't, he will "bale" you out.
With Alexstrasza? What if you draw your Baleful Banker before LPG, too? That's an 11 mana turn to get it back into your deck. Then you have to keep drawing to find it again.
It's fun in theory, but it's slower and more inconsistent than pretty much every other combo deck and without the standard Mage Exodia package, you're not going to have the mana to get through armor-stacked Druids and control Warriors.
I think that at some point in the next two years, a working combo will arise. I just don't think that time is now.

Not only unpopular but quite obviously wrong.
Optimistic way of looking at it, though, somebody could probably make this work. Would there be an aluneth to draw the combo?

Primordial glyph, enough said.
Vote for my Card Design Submission! I love this one!

And what if you draw your combo pieces/big minions before Luna's Pocket Galaxy? And that's why it's trash....
The card is quest druid but worst, because you're not sure to draw it and you don't have the 8/8 body.

Nice
Baleful Banker bro!

That's why I save the Coin the entire game and run Lorewalker Cho for games I go first.

OP was so wrong. Let this idiotic thread die.
Boy how wrong are the people calling out OP for being wrong.
Luna's PG is a staple in majority of the Mage decks you are seeing today friends.
how do you return an Alex you drew before pocket galaxy to the deck tho??? 9+2=11 and no one in their right mind is leaving an Alex alive on the board
