The odd thing about all the new spirit cards revealed in Rastakhan's Rumble is that most of them look like totems, yet they don't have the totem tribe. I think they should have it out of consistency of the theme. Maybe one reason for this is that it would give shaman an unfair advantage, due to cards like Totem Cruncher or Totemic Might.
'Spirit' seems more accurate, and matches the flavor of the stealth for the first turn, ongoing effect, etc. Doesn't seem to be like the other 'totems' that we have.
Tbh, they could have made them all Totems, which would have made more sense, and apply the Preparation reasoning on Spirit of the Frog, and overcost it by (1) or (2), in order to make it fair in case of Totem synergy.
It's not like Shaman has many issues at getting into the Value game anyway.
I think that you replied to your own question. It would indeed be unfair.
But then again, Totem Cruncher only affects your own totems, and Totemic Might is only seen when randomly generated. It really doesn't seem like a big deal.
