See the title? Well, most surprisingly, this combo does not work, and I see no reason why this should be the case.
In a game (after about 10 or 15 attempts), I succeeded in destroying my entire deck, emptying my whole hand, and destroying all of my minions on the board except for Mecha'thun. The ONLY things I had left were: 1. Mecha'thun on the board 2. A Necrium Blade with 1 durability left.
I attacked with my Necrium Blade, which destroyed it. Necrium Blade's deathrattle triggered and automatically targetted Mecha'thun, as it should be (can be verified by checking played cards on the left). But then... nothing happened. The opponent was still alive, I still had Mecha'thun, and I no longer had the Necrium Blade. I have no word to express my disappointment.
And yet, it should definitely work - Mecha'thun's text doesn't say ANYTHING about weapons, and EVEN if it did, I no longer had a weapon at that time since the deathrattle had already triggered. Mecha'thun not working in this situation makes no sense at all.
It is already extremely hard to make Mecha'thun trigger in normal circumstances, so it's really absurd that even such obvious combos do not work with him, not even following card texts. I made a bug report about it in the official forums already ( https://us.battle.net/forums/en/hearthstone/topic/20767606563#1 ), but sadly, I doubt it will lead to anything.
I'll give you an example of card text that is important to pay attention, and please keep in mind, with every card, every bit of text is important.
Genn Greymane reads that your starting Hero Power is reduced by 1 mana. I did not pay attention to the "starting" detail of the card text, so when I played Justicar Trueheart, my Hero Power was reverted back to 2 mana.
i wonder if mechathun is meant not to be the win condition you build your deck around, but rather a card that's meant to be a secondary option for a deck that burns out quickly.....

I have here a deck I made that was meant to illustrate the idea I had for Mecha'thun. Worth viewing the details I wrote at the deck post. It's a very basic build. The Sprites could be swapped out for two Witchwood Piper.

What do you all think?
His deathrattle says "if you have no cards in your deck, hand, and battlefield, destroy the enemy hero." This includes himself.....
Hello there!
See the title? Well, most surprisingly, this combo does not work, and I see no reason why this should be the case.

Mecha'thun has to die, too. This should not work.
Come visit my Card Emporium. Strange things, you will find inside...
Come take the test, if you're daring. Feel free to show me your results in a message.
Why would he work, it says no minions, which includes himself.
Mechathun did not die tho even if u trigger the deathrattle through necrium blade. So it will not work
Read Mecha'thuns deathrattle more carefully.
Reread the card? troll? bait?
This was talked about, you can vilespine mechathun
lol oops no u cant vilespine it xD
Was Mecha’thun on board? There can be NO minions, even her.
In the time it took you to make this post and bogus bug reports, you could have just read the card text.

The fact that Mecha'thun himself needs to be dead is complete bullshit.
You can better file your grievance here. Hope this helps...

JMAP94. The best way to love the artist is to love the art.

If Mecha'thun is on board then your board is not empty. This is the same reason it does not work with Deathwing.
