Just look at this deck and please tell me you are not convinced. YOU ARE LUCKY SHUDDERWOCK IS 9 MANA INSTEAD OF 8 !!! Nerf incoming ??? Anyway here it is ...
I don't know how meta defining he will be long term, but he sure looks a ton of fun to play around with. I expect to see him a lot in the first few weeks, so he will most likely define the meta, at least initially.
It's an interesting combo card, but will probably struggle to work in that regard. Has interesting applications as a second N'zoth in Wild Jade Shammy, though, so should see some play.
How will it struggle? The best part of the card is that all the combo pieces can be played on separate turns. If any thing it's one of the easiest combo cards to set up.
I think the Shudderwock OTK will fail, but toss in a few saronite chain gains, a couple life suckers and maybe primordial drake and just play a midrange/control/elemental Shaman and you should be golden.
He is like N'zoth but instead of summoning all your deathrattle minions, he plays all battlecrys. Battlecrys are often stronger than deathrattles. He is one mana cheaper. He has the potential fill the board with copies of himself as well as shuffling himself into the deck allowing you to go infinite. Cards that can go infinite always see play.
Shudderwock is the late-game unlimited value that control Shaman has always lacked. Essentially if you can get to turn 9, you can play endless Shudderwocks with boardclear battlecries (Hagatha, Primordial Drake for up to 7 damage to all minions), it copies itself a few times on board with Saronite and returns more copies to your hand and deck. Best art ever too!
Well, Here's the thing. People wanting to make like 7 shudderwocks a turn are actually not playing to the potential of the deck. I belive if you can organize the deck to do Face damage by using Night blade and the new beast nightblade you can essentially go infinite with face damage. I think that version will be stronger overall. Mostly because it will be much more unavoidable. What is going to matter is how fast decks are. And since the overall game is moving away from charge decks this whole set will probably be midrange and deadbeat slow decks.
ie:
Cubelocks
ShudderOTKs
ComboHunters/emeris things
Essentially we're moving back in time to about gvg release where there were essentially 3 things. Combo decks(cubelock, shudder, etc), hard control(Odd priest/warrior), and maybe zoo decks(pally, mage, etc)
Its a really good card that gets better as more cards are released. Even if its not meta defining in this set its potential will go up with every single expansion from here on out. Think of it like when N'Zoth, the Corruptor was released. Everyone knew it had a really strong ability, but it took a few expansions before the card became the monster it is now.
You can play zola sunfury protector and saronite chain gang and basically you have infinite multiple copies of 6/6 with taunt on the board. It's not that much an otk as going infinite, but you got to set it up so maybe as an endgame tool for control shaman, provided control shaman works at all.

Very, very slow, and requires you to have played multiple specific cards as setup, one of which is legendary, without much draw at all in the class. landing grumble and surviving that turn seems like one of the sticking points, being unable to do anything else of value that turn, though I did forget about the tutor, which does make things much better. Still, surviving that long in a class that's never been particularly good at sustain worries me, particularly when casting 4 mana 2/4s. Every single shaman AE overloads. Maybe I'm underestimating it, but we'll see how it goes.
I don't see how it's "slow"? Slow means that it's an expensive card that does little to nothing on the turn that it's played. This does everything on the turn it's played.

I mean if you are looking for the OTK combo it's going to be a bit tougher sure. But in general comboing this guy with anything isn't that hard. Also living to turn nine has not been traditionally hard for shaman, not sure what you are talking about there. Most shaman decks that have been made recently are looking to close things out sooner so don't traditionally need to go to 9. Shaman still has solid heals and clears. Sure there is overload stuff, hasn't stopped them before. Card draw IS an issue I won't deny that but getting to 9, especially when playing good battle cry stalling cards like saronite chain gang is a cinch.
People will go all crazy trying to find some stupid deck to cheat the game with the card. And most of those ideas won't work. But eventually, a solid deck will be found that will be competitive. There's too many battlecries in the game for there NOT to be some deck that is viable. Most battlecries are good on their own, so it's not like you have to gimp your deck to take advantage of it.
And like N'Zoth, if it isn't a meta-defining card yet, eventually it will be, just by the power that it could contain. People are really short-sided by this expansion comparing every card to what is available now, and not thinking ahead where a lot of the cards could be really good if another card that synergizes with it is printed.
I think it will enable a solid high tier 2 or low tier 1 deck, (think big priest) i don't think it will be the next Jade druid or cube lock. The fact is this card wants a lot of battlecry minions, but u still need all the board clears and control spells u can get just to make it to turn 9. It will see play it will sometimes be insane, but lots of times u will be dead before turn 9 or never draw the card and have no win condition.

Everyone is so sure this card is going to be 'meta-defining', but after a couple of weeks, I don't think it'll see much play in ladder.
You are not very smart. Change my opinion.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It is meta-defining
but probably in wild more than in standard.

Those Nightblade standard shenanigans will be shortbreathed, but it will make a solid, legend plausible deck in wild.
Why isn't he a dragon? He looks like a dragon

Why would i gaf to change your mind?..
Just Another Legend Player#Kappa
Okay, play 2 How long can this go on = 9 mana 18/18 split into 3 bodies, play the new 2 mana 2/2 epic twice, put 2 more Shudderwock in your deck, etc.
Don't mind me just passing by
