I nabbed this in a pack last week and threw it in my Shaman Overload Deck. Ive got to use it about 5 or 6 times now. I realize its a small sample size and i think the card is fairly useless. Most of the time the spell options arent helpful, and often favour my opponent.
I realize this is anecdotal also. I have never come accross anyone playing runespear!
By all accounts on it so far, it is awful. The RNG doesn't favor the player using it as often as it should, and even when it does, it's impact is minimal.
Yeah it does, in my heart. It will help me someday save a poor Voidlord to finally find a home somewhere. I can even volunteer and provide my deck for it all thanks the amount of dust I will gather for charity.
No it is not. Too inconsistent and expensive on top of that. Might get better over time but right now, it's not good enough. The only viable shaman archetype right now is token/aggro, thus it doesn't even have a spot in there.
It's pretty terrible. I pulled it from a pack. I made a few decks for the lolz with it. After I'm done spending gold on packs this expansion it's on top of my DE list.
Among other fun facts about it, if the spell you discover has overload you will get overload.
edit: Oops, I posted the one withoutThe Runespear, haha.
Forgetting the name, but the 2/8 3 mana taunt with overload works well for me in a similar deck. It upgrades the spellstone in one drop, holds off aggro better, and generally against priest (who can easily kill it) it's more for the spellstone upgrade early while they aren't doing anything important.
After playing with it a bit seeing as I got it as my free weapon, I'm happy to say...
FUCK NO!!!
It's bad. Really really bad. The weapon is overpriced. 8 mana 3/3 weapon, so that text better be good. Sadly it's not. Discovering a spell sounds good in theory, until you remember that a lot of Shaman's spells are really cheap or require a target. If it was like 6 mana it would be a lot better, but at 8 it's just fucking awful.
After a couple games, I just dusted it and crafted Skull of the Man'ari, a much better weapon.

As a note for anyone not in immediate need of dust, don't DE until you are pretty sure you aren't going to get any more packs from the expansion. This stops really bad luck and getting 2 of the same shitty legendary. My personal method is to hold onto the bad cards until before the new expansion drops. I go over the new cards and make sure there's no reason I would want to keep my undesired cards then go to town and hoard up some dust from my day 1 must crafts.
*edit, not to you specifically, just a general rule of thumb for anyone thinking about DE'ing this crap card right now. I've pulled 4 lorewalker cho's since launch and it feels bad every time. At least now there's dup guard*
If you by some miracle find a person actually playing shaman on ladder, I can assure you that you'll need Jesus' second coming to see them play the runespear.

Hello!

It's seeing plenty of use in Trolden videos.

God bless The Runespear.
As I got it as my free legendary weapon I also went for the control overload deck.
After posting it and asking for other people to join the testing and thinking about the deck without any responses I gave up recently.
My latest version was this:

I wish it said "Whenever your hero attacks, discover a spell. It costs (0)."
That way you can control the effect better and save the spell for a better moment.

It's by far the worst legendary weapon and that was figured out within about a minute of it being revealed.
All you have to do is look through the collection to see how bad the spells it can hit are.

I was testing it as well, but the three overload messes up your following turn so much that I went for the wolves.
You got enough 1 and 2 overload card to upgrade it that way anyways.

Why u hav to be mad? is only card gaem.
It has the same stats as the Warrior weapon that recruits a minion. And recruit a minion is a 6 mana spell.
So would you pay 6 mana for a spell that says “discover a spell and cast it with random targets”? No, you wouldn’t lol.
The card is terrible I just don’t understand what they were thinking
