Vicious syndicate's criteria for "Tier 1" is at least a 52% winrate. Last week at legend (for the first time) no deck types met that criteria. Instead there was a fairly large tier 2 with 12 deck types, one of which was Silence priest. given there is no tier above it, silence priest is now in the top tier of decks , not the best deck, but in the same tier with the best ones.
Silence Priest was fine last expansion as well (even though it was rarely played) and Purify was a key card in that. Everybody just has to be a whiny asshole when their favourite class gets a card they don't like. Nobody bothered trying out Luckydo Buccaneer but it was a fantastic card in a deck I used. Same with the rogue quest. The hate put out for Blizzard based on an uninformed opinion that the quest would be useless was just obscene.
Ben Brode was never right, it's just that Team 5 can't take any form of criticism. So when they release one of the worst card in the game for the worst class at the time, in a limited adventure card slot, everybody told them they "fucked up".
But no, according to Ben Brode every player is a moron, they can't figure the "unicorn", even the pros who made a lot of rant videos about it.
Since then, for a year, they tried to force this archetype on us with things like silent watcher, barnes, ...
The thing is, they take everything too far, instead of saying "we made a mistake", "or we still have problem at balancing the game", nope they had to add more and more OP card so they can finally say "told you that silence priest (or pirates, totem, dragon) would be viable".
Also, what the hell...? Silent Watcher is classic and Barnes wasn't even invented for silence priest. In terms of releasing cards to make an archetype viable, what the hell is wrong with that? Do you just want to play midrange curvestone where everybody plays the same cards in every deck (Shredder, Creeper, Belcher, etc.)? That's the least interesting environment possible for deckbuilding. They push archetypes so that people can have fun with them instead of them just being some joke deck.
Really? Strictly? So you're saying... there's not a SINGLE situation where Purify is better?? Not a single Ancient Watcher or Freeze Debuff or Corruption or Aldor Peacekeeper debuff that you would rather silence over getting a POS 1/1? That's what it means when you say "strictly". If you don't mean that, then find another term to use because you're using it completely wrong, just like those people that use literally when they mean figuratively.
Yes Ben Brode was right Purify Priest is actually a thing it just so happens you need Razorleaf, Lyra, Radiant Elemental, Shadow Visions and Potion of Madness for it to be a thing but thats only 9 cards that werent even in the game when Purify was released but little things like that arent important, I'm sure Ben Brode just failed to mention it would be almost a year before it actually became a viable deck, I mean Purify is the standout card in silence priest im sure without those 9 cards it would still be a top tier deck right?

The deck WAS fine before the expansion. It got pushed into T1/T2 territory with JTU. Ben never said "this card is super OP and top tier autoinclude". He said that some cards are designed to be more fun and push quirky archetypes which it did! People were playing silence priest last expansion with Eerie Statue, IBM, Fel Orc Soulfiend, Circle of Healing and Auchenai Soulpriest in place of some of those cards. I played it to rank 5 and others used it to hit legend. Is Swamp King Dredd being used in a T1/T2 deck right now? What about the overhyped Iron Juggernaut and Troggzor in their time in standard? Not every card needs to be some broken card that's used all the time. I was happy with Purify when it was released and knew it would see some play eventually (it's even better than Silence for later game plays)

I never said the card or deck wasnt playable before i said without those 9 cards mentioned you couldnt consider it top tier which is what the OP suggested, Alot of cards are "fine" and the issue with Purify was not so much the card itself as much as it was the state the priest class was in at the time, Bottom of the pile and then they get purify thats what caused the uproar, Personally im a fan of fun cards i played renounce darkless warlock more than i care to remember, So while i agree with your comment all you really did was agree with me that you wouldnt consider silence priest a top tier deck until the recent expansion which is exactly what i said, I never said the deck wasnt a thing just that it wouldnt be top tier if you removed Lyra, Radiant Elemental, Shadow Visions, Potion of Madness and Razorleaf, Please correct me if i'm wrong but is that not the case, Is it top tier without those cards if so please give me your deck without those cards because as a priest player i would LOVE to play that silence priest.
It sucked when it was released because Priest was in a bad spot at the time. It does not suck now because more cards support it now. Besides, Silence is strictly better because it allows for way more flexibility.
In hindsight a lot of cards are actually strong. Before the release of pirates, cards like Arcanite Reaper and Heroic Strike saw no play and were therefore bad cards. Now people are calling for rotation of Arcanite Reaper to the Hall of Fame.
I see your point and no offence... but this is quite a silly post.
You can't really say that Purify had hidden value. Benny Brode just released cards that made it viable. 10 months ago it was utter shit, what else would you silence except for Ancient Watcher? Good luck getting Purify and Ancient Watcher in your opening hand.
Really goes to show that Hearthstone is being milked the same way WoW is. They make one expansion then chop it into three, and sprinkle in filler to make up the missing 66%. Benny knew Humungous Razorleaf was on the way, since it was developed last summer when Purify was.
During 3 seconds of brainstorming here's what I come up with
"While this card is in your deck or hand you automatically lose any game.", zero mana spell.
Pretty bad huh? But is there a way to make this card the best UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES? Yup.
Say for example we're playing "who loses first hearthstone", or maybe even if there was a brawl for it. That card would be the MVP, the deck to beat, the perfect counter to every other deck.
The repport sais all priest decks are low tier 3 and tier 4.
You have to click the drop down menu and select "Legend" because I said "at legend " in the post. Legend is the most accurate tier assessment because if decks do badly because people play them badly it's not the decks' fault.

Ben Brode was right

... Congrats? I guess.
novice engineer is strictly better than purify
and novice engineer is fucking trash
Everyone who said purify sucks was 100% right. Who cares about how good a card is in 10 months when priest was in the state it was in last summer.

The one card, "Purify" is a Top Tier Deck? Pashaw; Guffaw!
I enjoy.

Imagine the worst card you are capable of.

But is it good? No. It's utter crap.

Everyone said wisp was bad, and it's played in quest rogue in pro tournaments. Would you consider wisp a good card? What's your point?
