We've moved past the era of building your comp around a 5* or 6* and instead now those late game minions need to add value to what scaling you already have.
I think the only way to successfully go Quilboar now is starting with the Divine Shield dude and slowly transitioning to the usual endgame.
Without DS, Poison or Deathrattle, the only thing that can work for Quillboars (same with Pirates) is stats. And in that they suck quite bad as the only early/mid-game quillboarf that can scale infinitely is Dynamic Duo and that is quite slow as in the early game you don't have access to so many Blood Gems.
Just not enough blood gem generation to make them work that doesn't involve sinking lots of money into relaxers. The only time they get running is charlga at tier 6 because it guarantees blood gem activations every turn. So yeah.
They really need to bring back thorncaller (replace the prophet on 2) and make dynamic duo tier 3 so they can start scaling better,
In the past, even after the nerf, they were really strong. Now I seldom get top-4 with them, even with the overpowered heroes.
It feels like you get access to Charlga and Aggamagan way too late, and if you don't manage to get at least one mega-windfury minion you are doomed.

Quillboars became a support tribe.

I often use them with mechs for mid game progression then shift to full mech later.
They are the path to make menagerie work. If they aren't in you usually can't scale big enough.
I also only have success with them in menagerie/dual builds. It just feels like the traditional blood gem path gets out scaled by anything

+1/+1 per turn is just laughable in this meta, sometimes even landing Charlie out of first tier 6 discover is not enough to carry out into lategame.
Ironically best blood gem generator is Gemsplitter but he gets often gets snatched as an offtribe and you can't find it.
