Whenever I face him he ALWAYS has agorillion minions, like 5-6 of them, while at tier 2, even during the very first turn against him like 3-4 turns in. meanwhile I have just upgraded to tier 2 and have like 2 or 3 minions.
I know of the bonus minion he gets, the one that gives loot, but does he also get bonus minions other than that? Or does he get more gold than others to buy more minions? he feels impossible to beat the first time you face him.
If Diablo is an option, I pick someone else to spare everyone with the stupid "Diablo nonsense". If all the other heroes suck, I concede and the other 7 can play a non-Diablo game.
I think what you are seeing is that it is really easy to triple with Tier 1 units if you stay on Tier 1, and Tier 1 units are fairly strong currently.
You don't need to stay on tier one to do well with DIablo, no idea if that is optimal or not, but the hero is straight up powerful. Not altogether convinced he's that fun to play either, strategy just seems to be to make sure you are strong for raid turns so you get a full set of upgrades, then you use them to level safely, he doesn't feel as unique as he should, somehow reminds me of deathwing (who is totally boring)...oh well.

I think a lot of people playing him just don't tavern until after the first raid, so he's likely to be ahead (albeit with all T1 minions).
