Whizbang's Workshop Set Cards List & Guide
I find him OP as fuck if he plays beasts (Hydra and the wolf buffing beasts) or Elementals (a buffed up windfury and cleave elemental). I always reach top-2 with him.
Why pick a hero where you need to find specific cards to have any chance, instead of picking a hero where you have a good chance be default?
Illidan needs to not only find good cards, but also good cards that happen to work with his hero power. He can be good, but he's simply unreliable.

I don't always pick him. Only really when I want to play the two builds in question. I agree that he's not good for all builds.
Easy answer, he isnt highroll hero thus he cannot perform well if you have bad or mediocre early and mid game.
