Hi all! i want to share with all of you a really fun deck to play(and maybe good too,who knows!)
This is a little guide that explains the deck
It plays like a Control Warlock,it starts really good with early minions like Kobold Librarian,Vulgar Homunculus and Voidwalker.
Fungal Enchanter is a better Earthen Ring Farseer and it works really well with your early minions.
Medivh, the Guardian works really well with cards like Rin, the First Disciple Seals, with big spells like Twisting Nether and Siphon Soul
Arcane Tyrant is a really good card in this deck,it works well with big spells and seals(a 4/4 and a 2/2 for the first seal resolve a bit the tempo loss)
Hooked Reaver is a MVP card versus aggro decks. a 4 mana 7/7 with taunt helps alot on the board, and its really likely to have 15 or less health with this deck, especially in aggro matchups.
Lesser Amethyst Spellstone is awesome with all your deal damage to yourself effects, and it gives you a bit of heal and a great removal.(its considerable to run two of these instead maybe of a Hellfire)
Rin, the First Disciple like explained before, works well with Arcane Tyrant and Medivh, the Guardian because of Seals,This Card is more of a control matchup card,in aggro matchups is like a bad 6 drop with taunt. For this card you dont need to think of the final reward(Azari) but more of the value it offers with the Seals.
Im open to answer all of your questions (if you have some :P)
UPDATE 1: Removed a Mortal Coil and Drain Soul and added 2 Defile.
UPDATE 2: Is considerable to Remove an Hellfire or an Abyssal Enforcer for an Healing tool, only because of Hunter hero power and aggressive cards(it depends on how many hunter do you encounter)Same thing for Skulking Geist if you encounter a lot of Jade Druid.
UPDATE 3: Removed the last Mortal Coil,Removed a Hooked Reaver,Removed an Hellfire and added 1 Skulking Geist 1 Drain Soul 1 Lesser Amethyst Spellstone
I removed Mortal Coil because Drain Soul is better in aggro matchups, offers a early removal and healing for your hero and it helps more to set a good Defile
2 Hooked Reaver were too much, because in control matchups most of the time they were only 4/4s sitting in my hand,So i decided to remove one and put a Skulking Geist for jade druids, dragon priests(inner fire) and Kingsbane Rogues(deadly poison).
I removed an Hellfire too, because we already have cards Like Abyssal Enforcer,Defile,Twisting Nether and Despicable Dreadlord for AoE,I put instead another Lesser Amethyst Spellstone for healing potential and a good "big minions" removal.
If you want to see the deck in action, there's the video of kiwiinbacon playing it!
If i wrote the "guide"in bad grammar,im sorry but my first language is not english but italian.
I never thought that Rin was going to be useful in a deck but I actually enjoy having her there and I see great potential in this deck. Not only does it stand its ground on the ladder, but it also is extremely fun to play with. I decided to make a video to showcase the deck in action, Which I hope you all enjoy of course
You did miss lethal at 17:55, tho!
Gul'dan is a must if you want to play warlock in general, twisting Nether is good in control so is a great craft,Arcane Tyrant seems a powerfull card and can be played in mage, warlock, druid etc.. so i think you should craft them :)
Bloodreaver Gul'dan is a must in control warlock. Twisting Nether is a great epic and Arcane Tyrant also sees play in miracle druid and big spell mage. But i don't think control warlock is worth the craft at the moment. If you like the class tho...
I still really like Skulking Geist. I still run into Jade Druid and it wrecks weapon rogue by taking out the poisons and cold bloods before he can buff his weapon. Also takes out Divine Spirit, Evolves, soulfires, and a bunch of other priest annoyances.
So after immedietly play testing with Control Warlock and much extensive play there are quite a number of things I just feel like I should point out about this deck and hopefully will clear up people's opinions on the new cards and provide better options for deckslots moving forward.
First off, Rin is REALLY bad. I figured she would be too slow but I tried her out anyways and BOY was I ever right. I found it difficult to find a good time to play each seal without losing tempo. Couldn't get it off in time against Razakus even after I played Rin on 6, and that was the only time I managed to even summon her.
I'm very sceptical of Kobold Librarian being in a control warlock deck even with the Spellstones, to be truth I haven't tried it but it just seems out of place. In my experience more often than not I was able to upgrade the spellstones with just 2 of Humunculous, Enforcer and one copy of Hellfire fairly consistently. Speaking of Humunculous I think it easily replaces Voidwalker.
I have tried Medivh in previous versions of CW in the past and I have always had mixed results. I just think it's too slow to get value out of and is counterable especially in the meta as of now with Ooze being a viable tech choice. Twisting and Siphon Soul just doesn't pack enough punch with Medivh than what Big spell mage and Big Druid can do with it.
Hooked Reaver more often than not will not be a 7/7 in a CW deck with heal, and not good enough body standalone when you could play something else like Giants. And speaking of which..why Arcane Tyrant Because of synergy synergy with Rin and nether? Not buying it at all. Mountain Giants or Drakes are much better bodies to be playing for tempo. Hell I'd wager Lava to be better now with more self damage support...but yet to try that out.
Permanently destroying Kingsbane is so satisfying
So, about that Medivh .........
Our most common combo for this deck was to clear the board with a Twisting Nether and get a cool 8drop...besides the Tortallan shit everything was rly nice, from Tyrion to Ragnaros , many taunts, etc.
I searched for this deck just to post the following scenario that has already happened to me TWICE. In just freaking 8 hours of gameplay.
Grand Archivist .........was summoned and it casted either Twisting Nether .......leaving my deck completely defenseless ...or consumed one of my siphon souls on himself........... lost both games cause of that stupid 8 drop.
I urge people to not go for the Casino that is now Medivh weapon, maybe find a more suitable, stable outcome card (second twisting nether or something.
Also no Skulking Geist means a good druid can keep a Jade Idol in his hand and make himself a new deck after you destroyed it.
also I accidentally voted you down and it won't let me change it :(
I've been having a lot of fun with a deck similar to this. Instead of the hooked reaver and dreadlord package I've got violet illusionist and blood bloom with a couple dark pacts included for healing. Azari gets played more often then not and I'm kinda surprised, I've even been able to play it against some midrange and agro decks. Rin is a surprisingly good card assuming you can draw her prior to your last 5 cards.
I miss some cards so i've put the darkness in. this is obviouily not a ranked deck but insane fun, even if i lose :) Nice spend-time till the meta shapes. Yeah ok ok Rin suck but is fun and to be honest all the top tier decks are insanely boring and for me victory and ranking up fast is less important then having fun.
quit the 2 coil and put defile works better
Rin has been awful so far for me. Win or lose, it's never been relevant in games even after playing Medivh. There's always something better to do than cast the seal.
Yeah she's not great, but I opened her so might as well
I pulled a Golden Rin so I've decided to try my damn hardest to make it work lol
Is there a way I can put in a defile or two?
Yeah Defile is great you can replace a mortal coil and if you want two a drain soul
