With Medivh, The Guardian (old Tempo Version of the deck, start of the expansion):
I present you Luzkan Aggro Secret Weapon Mage!
Have fun with this deck when everyone will just pull out crappy decks like we always do at the start of new season. I'll try to polish this deck as soon as meta settles but at this moment it's a rush climb to legend.

1. Mulligan:
The Meta actually isn't random anymore. Now mulligan is key to success. Here is the general good-to-go mulligan phase, but for all the details that from time to time give you an additional win - check out my stream! :)
Against Anything:
(Mana Wyrm / Arcanologist / Frostbolt / Primordial Glyph)
You can never go wrong with those. But not only that.
➼ Keep Kabal Lackey if you have ➼ Useful Secret at T1
➼ Keep Kirin Tor Mage if you have ➼ Useful Secret at T3
➼ Keep Kirin Tor Mage if you have ➼ Useful Secret & Coin
➼ Keep Kirin Tor Mage if you have ➼ Arcanologist
➼ Keep Kabal Crystal Runner if you have ➼ A nice (1, 2, 3: Secret Curve)
➼ Keep Aluneth if you are ➼ not against aggro deck/class.
2. Why this deck rekts things:
It's pretty much self-explanatory.
- Mage got ultra strong tempo card which is Explosive Runes
- Mage got ultra strong card draw with Aluneth.
- People are trying random things.
- People actually got burned to face and no deck run water bucket to stop it.
- Praise the burn spells! :)

4. How did the old tempo version looked like:
I switched from Tempo to Aggro at 11/12/2017. By that time my winratio again went up. I highly suggest the new Aggro version the higher in ranks you are. To play the old tempo just switch these cards back:
- -1 Kabal Lackey
- -1 Ice Block
- -1 Pyroblast
- -2 [card]Sorcerer's Apprentice[/card]
- +2 Firelands Portal
- +1 Spellbender
- +1 Ethereal Arcanist
- +1 Medivh, the Guardian
5. Summary:
This is a live guide/deck/thread. As long as I have time for it, i'll keep this updated.
Feel free to check my stream at 19:00 almost everyday, playing and explaining deck in-depth.

In this spoiler is just old text about Tempo version of my deck. It's still working so if you want to have a read, here it is! :)
1. Testing at this moment:
The fallowing is old and outdated.
Because of the amount of secrets I think about Ehereal Arcanist as a great minion companied with Counterspell and Spellbender but is it better than Bittertide Hydra?
[ Ethereal Arcanist | Bittertide Hydra ]
Using the suggestion from user "targeting" i swaped Bittertide Hydra for Medivh, The Guardian. Didn't impact the winratio right now - I mean - winstreak is still going, altough felt much better in Priest matchup where I can stop drawing from the legendary weapon and get huge value out of Firelands Portals. Slot 5 is anyway almost busy due to 3+2 mana cards in the deck (including reduced price of Kabal).
[ Bittertide Hydra | Medivh, the Guardian ]
2. The Meta:
So we ran into some problems sadly. The deck was meta defining and as a result other decks pop-out as a counter to this deck. Deck has no longer any problems aside from Aggro Paladin. Rekts everything else.
There are two decks that ruins the free legend every time for players using this deck.
Spell Hunter (43% WR) and Aggro Paladins (46%) are very good against our Mage. That wouldn't be a problem right? Only two decks are prepared to destroy us. But... not really if these two decks are the most popular decks on the ladder.
It's like the paper/stone/scissors game. We are beating everyone. Aggro Paladin and Spell Hunter beats us. And everyone is beating Aggro Paladin and Spell Hunter (well, kind-of).
So what can we do about it?
Here comes the help with tech cards. But... it's not that easy actually. Spell Hunter is spell based while Aggro Paladin floods the board. Eater of Secrets works only against Hunter (and it's a weak tech choice, cause he will be playing secrets on turn 2 and i'm not sure if 1 eater of secrets will have any impact on the game). Gluttonous Ooze works against Eaglehorn Bow and in other matchups it can have an impact as well - like Pirate Warrior or Legendary Weap from Warlock etc. 3/3 body for 3 isn't as terrible as 2/4 for 4. So it's and improvement but is it enough? And it doesn't really help against Aggro Paladin. I was thinking about Frost Nova to stop the board from killing us while we are looking for the finishing burn cards. Maybe a second Ice Block? That's really hard to wrap my mind about what will be the best in that situation.
Overall if you just play the deck, you'll still win about 60% of time. It means that if you play, let's say, 1000 games, you probably will win 600 games and lose 400 of them. So if you are desperate enough, you can hit easy legend that way ^^. Looking for a discussion about the tech cards in the comments! :)
3. Overall winratio & Hunter problem:
Some stats and tips. Kinda old, but still okay.
Turns out this deck is insane - hitting global 60% winratio.
Deck is stomping on all clases except it's even (50% wr) against Paladin and bad against Hunter (43% wr). Hunter is a great counter due to playing no minions and making our deck really meh to play against that. I'll copy here my comment about that situation:
"Do not keep Frostbolt without Mana Wyrm / Arcanologist / Primordial Glyph. Generally you wan't minions and pressure. Don't keep Kirin/Kabal if your secret is Explosive Runes.
Hunter is the control, Mage is the aggro in this match up. Pressure him. Throw cards for tempo even if they don't bring you value with their battlecries unless it's highly not recommended by the situation on the table. Keep in mind that they have 6x removals that deal 3 damage (sadly that's the number of hp on most of our creeps). But so - 4 of their cards summon 3/3 wofles and our cards are great at dealing 3 dmg as well.
Most importantly: HUNTER'S CANT HEAL THEMSELVES.
While tempo-ing out also deal little bits of damage to their face and pay attention to the cards in your deck. What's the chance of drawing lethal in 1/2 turns? How to set up a burn plan? Etc."
Maybe you face too many aggro at lower ranks, and this deck isn't that great against aggro, notable pally which is kinda almost unwinnable matchup. I play different version of secret mage right now, and made it to rank 1 so far.
I've won PLENTY of games without Aluneth. You're doing it wrong.
You claim I'm doing it wrong, but haven't seen what decks I've gone against. I've went against a lot of aggro hunters or murloc paladins, they have full control of the board, If i go face I run out of things to end the match. If i clear the board, I run out of spells to go face with. No matter what path you take, you won't win against those kinds of decks, which are pretty common. If you're going against High-roller decks, you'll win. Plain and simple, without Aluneth early, you stand zero chance against another aggro deck. This deck is far too inconsistent. You can downvote this again and ride the OP's shaft if you want.
I wouldn't call it shaft riding, I'd call it calling it like I'VE seen it. I've played from 22ish to 10 with hardly any losses. I'll admit that I've lost to a paladin a time or two (wasn't murloc) and hunters CAN be troublesome but unless you're running into those ALL the time you're doing something wrong, period. If you'd like I can add you and we can run these impossible to win scenarios that you speak of and I'll show you. Maybe this deck just isn't for you, but saying it's not viable isn't accurate.
Im stuck at around 14 with this deck...what am I doing wrong? I think Im struggling with when to attack face and when to play board.
If you try to fight for board too much with secret mage, you will always lose. Make trades early only if they help to protect stronger minions, and try to push as much damage as possible. Your only lategame is to draw spells and throw them into face, minions you put on board at this time can only take some damage, chance that they will be able to attack is too small
Hello ;), Thx for the deck, it's really nice. I have stucked on lvl 10 right now... I hope i will break it and go further ;).
My luck is amazingly disappointing. In 10 or so matches, I've only seen Aluneth once, I can't seem to draw it when I need it. I'm still progressing through the ranks, though (Rank 19 to 14). But I did replace Sorcerer's Apprentice for Shimmering Tempest because I haven't actually had a use for her, I like the free spells I get to makeup for not getting Aluneth in a dire situation. Also, I can never draw Mana Wyrm within the first couple turns, lol.
EDIT: Here's an example of my luck today. No Mana Wyrm drawn, no Aluneth. Went face with spells, and then this Druid became a Warrior in one turn, he got close to 20 armor. Also, right after that turn ended, I got Arcane Intellect it drew another Arcane Intellect.. No 2nd Ice Block Aluneth or a Mana Wyrm for the hell of it. Anyone selling luck? I'll pay.
I must say I was very critical in the beginning concerning the value of Aluneth. Works great in this setup. I mis 1 Primordial Glyph so I took Firelands Portal instead.
Having a lot of trouble with the no-minion hunter. Nothing to trigger explosive runes so I can never kill them before their board is full of wolves and me with no AoE. This deck is extremely strong against most other opponents, though. I climbed from rank 15 to rank 10 in one easy sitting. Hoping this deck can get me to rank 5 for the first time. Thanks!
I've been experimenting with a few changes -1 Kabal Lackey, -2 Ice Block, -2 Sorcerer's Apprentice, +1 Mana Bind, +2 Corridor Creeper, +1 Secretkeeper and +1 Eater of Secrets. I've never felt like I needed Ice Block or the Apprentices. The Creepers and Secretkeeper are an extremely strong addition, and the Eater of Secrets has won me several mirrors as well as really hurting other mage and most hunter decks.
If you feel like you don't need the Ice Block or Apprentices it means you play the deck incorrectly.
Standard match is like: build a board, kill any draw mechanics if you are against a priest, or find effective way to deal with mana wyrm or kirin if against a mage. Think what can stop your board from reaching your opponents face (like 4 mana dragon) and play around that. Usually you need 9-13 dmg from minions and on ~turn 6 you just go draw + burn plan that means all the spells goes into your opponents face while you are chilling on ice block / aluneth.
Against Spell Hunter you play anything that is a minion until turn 5. You always go with effective damage plan. You don't want to clear his board from summoned 3/3 wolfes. Spells are for face. :)
I explain this matchup everytime I meet a spellhunter on the ladder on stream ^^
What card should I cut to tech in eater of secrets?
Thanks for the deck! Works nicely for me.
P.S. Fuck the Duskbreaker
Loving this deck so far! Thanks Luzkan :)
I wanted to share that I just beat a Tempo Rogue who on turn one, played Prince Keleseth --> Shadowstep --> Prince Keleseth --> Shadowstep --> Prince Keleseth --> Emote "Well Played"
...it felt really good ;)
Haha! Thank you! I've also beaten once a Quad Prince Kelesath
Here is the replay: https://hsreplay.net/replay/CVdcHJLybfSArGSwcMx6x6
Brilliant! And thanks for providing the replay; it was great to be able to pause before your plays and try to predict how you would handle each turn.
Does removing the Pyroblast and putting in a Firelands Portal make the deck worse? I've played about ten games and Pyroblast was either a dead card or not enough damage.
I would not suggest that. The one Pyroblast is an essential finisher. Had severals wins with Pyroblast > 1HP Iceblocked.
I do not have 2x Medivh's Valet...I put 2x Corridor Creeper and it worked for me :)
Just have to say THANK YOU for this deck!
I haven't played any serious ranking since this summer, but today I decided to try to rank a bit. Looked for decks I didn't have to craft any cards for and found this (I got Aluneth as the free legendary) and made it from rank 19 to 9 and full stars in a couple of hours with 74% winrate.
Really good and fun deck to play. Even when I meet players with eater of secrets, it doesn't affect the match to much.
