The sole win condition requires you to buff a Young Dragonhawk and kill Arthas before he reaches turn 7. There’s definitely a little luck involved, primarily around if/when he draws an Obliterate. Muligan for the Dragonhawk. If you don’t have it on turn 1, restart the match.
DECKBUILDING: Though not intentionally so, this deck is definitely a budget solution, as it consists of basic and common cards and only 2 rares (which I didn't even use in the game that I won). The only card that’s required is Young Dragonhawk. Fill the rest of your deck with buffs, peppered with other cards that can help keep your Dragonhawk alive. I can’t recommend enough including 2 Blessing of Wisdoms. This can draw you an extra 2 cards per turn, which is a huge boon when most of the cards in the deck are 1-2 mana. I would recommend including as few minions as possible, and definitely not any taunt minions. Taunt minions sound like they'd be great at protecting your Dragonhawk, but once they die, they'll just get in the way on Arthas' side of the board.
- Additional suggestions:
- I've had some other folks mention that they've used Potion of Heroism, Rallying Blade, and Desperate Stand.
- If you keep having trouble dealing with Val'kyr Shadowguards or Sludge Belchers, you could also try adding in an Ironbeak Owl or two.
- I've also had Mossy Horror recommended, as it would allow you to clear the wall of taunts that are summoned on turn 7, which historically was a game ender for this deck.
MULIGAN: Muligan for the Dragonhawk. If you don’t have it on turn 1, restart the match. A strong starting hand includes cards that keep the Dragonhawk alive, by either buffing health or providing a Divine Shield.
GAMEPLAY:
- Turn 1: Play Young Dragonhawk
- Turn 2: If Arthas coined out a minion, any card that keeps the Dragonhawk alive is the priority. Best method is to buff health or use Light’s Justice if it’ll kill the minion. In lieu of that, anything that gives Divine Shield or a secret that either protects or revives the Dragonhawk will work. If Arthas didn’t coin out a minion, buff its attack and swing. In either case, if you can also buff with Blessing of Wisdom, then do so. The more cards you draw, the better chance you have to succeed.
- Turn 3-6: Continue to buff and protect your Dragonhawk. If your Dragonhawk is killed, it is possible to rebuild with another one or a revived one if you had Redemption in play. The deck is filled with buffs after all. Use your judgement based on the current situation whether you want to press on or just restart.
- Turn 7: If you can’t kill Arthas on this turn, restart.
- Other Tips:
- Keep getting Obliterated? Sometimes Arthas just has the RNG in his favor and seems to always have Obliterate ready to, well, you know. This is super frustrating. My best recommendation would be to keep trying, but mulligan a little differently. Try keeping cards like Redemption or Adaptation, or try adding Desperate Stand to your deck. Redemption and Desperate Stand will resurrect the Young Dragonhawk and can give you an opportunity to build back up with buffs in hand. Adaptation is less reliable, but if you get the choice of Liquid Membrane, your dragonhawk wouldn't be targetable by Obliterate.
Best of luck! For reference, with this deck list, I took home the win on attempt 4.
Worked! Definitely hard but doable.

Won @ third try in Round 5. Nice deck.
Took me about 20 minutes from crafting to get a win.
Put your spoiler here.
Got it after more than 10 tries. Good look.
Do not fall for this piece of crap deck, went 6 hours without a single win, downed him to 5 health and was Obliterated again and again and again.
WARNING: PLAY THIS DECK AT YOUR OWN RISK
Sorry you had such a rough go with the deck. Were you able to get a win with another deck?
Two hours to complete using only this deck. Purely luck win.
How I lost 30+ times:
How I won:
Statiscally this deck works. For those that got it - you realllly got lucky. It's very painful deck to use.
I did it, thanks!!!
Took a lot of restarts to get dragonhawk in my opening hand, but won second try when I was able to get it. My thanks!
The fact that you need to mulligan for
1- Young Dragonhawk
2- Adaptation
3- Blessing of Wisdom
and if you add the astronomical chance of lich king NOT using glacial shard on turn 1 or obliterate on turn 4-5, and getting the right adaptations, your odds are simply astronomical.
if you have months, even years to spend on this yes you have a slight chance, it is a useful deck but otherwise try to do ranked plays and get gold, turn those golds into packs and you can build a decent deck in a few months, and this option actually will take a shorter amount of time to complete.
Did you try it and have some bad luck? Is there a better deck list out there now since there's been a few expansions from the time I originally posted this deck? (Ernest question, not passive aggressive retort.) There certainly is a little luck involved to get started properly, but I was able to win on my 4th attempt (of actually playing) and spent under 30 minutes total (including mulligans and turn 1 restarts). I've also seen a lot of comments below of people taking home the win on first, second, or third attempt. Yes, there are some folks that spent an hour or two, but I would argue the odds are not astronomical and this deck is a solid strategy for completing the challenge in a decent amount of time and without needing a bunch of gold/dust to invest in a one-off challenge.
First try.
Genius.... Absolutely genius!
i got this at first attempt, after mulligan the right hand for about 6 times. This deck did me in one attempt what the Murloc deck couldn't in several attempts over several days and night!
i did Arthas on turn 10 though. Yes turn 10!. My Young Dragonhawk actually survive the full board of 2/6 minions. You may consider including Mossy Horror to clear the 2/6 minions board in one swipe if somehow you unfortunately got to turn 7.
As is you need to be very lucky, Arthas doesn't have Obliterate in his hands and his next 5 card draws. Good luck!
Holy crap man, thank you so much! Got it 7th try, not counting ones where I didn't get Young Dragonhawk. Took me about an hour, but I never felt like this deck wouldn't work. Super cheap as well, the only card I crafted was Divine Strength.
Thank you! Did it first try
Fantastic!! Worked first attempt. Best Paladin deck by far and at a good cost. Many thanks
Sorry to hear the RNG was not in your favor and I'm super impressed that murlocs actually worked for you. After the Murloc Warleader nerf (which took away to boost to murloc health) I was certain the murloc option was toast. Is there something that came out of Witchwood or Boomsday that you used? Pre-Witchwood, the murloc path felt downright impossible.
After Paladin being the only one left for me, this deck took him out on turn 5, first try. Thanks a lot!
Took me 3 tries. Thanks!
First try, after 1 mulligan restart. Rebuke and the shame spell ended up sealing the deal.
