Gameplan
This deck maximises warlock's ability to draw like no other warlock deck. It plans to draw a bunch with Life Tap, Coldlight Oracle, Kobold Librarian and other cycle cards such as Bloodmage Thalnos and Mortal Coil. The idea is to draw fearlessly, which allows you to tempo out Happy Ghoul and Arcane Tyrant without running out of steam. In a way they act similarly to Patches the Pirate because you get them for "free" when you heal/play a spell. If you have played a form of control warlock you will know that often in control matchups your hand becomes clogged and you have to pass even if you have the mana to tap. This deck overcomes that which allows it to draw to about 5 cards left whilst the opposing deck has 10-15 cards.
Mulligan
Always keep: Rin, the First Disciple, kobold libarian, Vulgar Homunculus and Happy Ghoul (last one is slightly more iffy and I'm still not completely sure).
Keep lesser amathyst spellstone if you have one cheap activator (libarian/vulgar). Never keep 2 though. I usually keep mortal coil when going second, but will write a more matchup specific mulligan once the meta settles a little.
Although it may seem correct to keep tar creeper, I almost always mulligan it, unless I already have a good curve. The reason for this (and you should apply this logic to any card when you are unsure) is what cards would I rather have than tar creeper?
The small synergies in this deck is what makes it come to life, and is what makes me so hyped for this deck!
To name a few (there are multiple packages that can be included in this deck, some may not be in the current list, but I will be trying all the package listed below). The fact that there are so many packages adds to the ability to be original with the list and create your own version:
1) Doomsayer into Lone Champion, I expect to see this in MANY control decks.
2) Cho'gall, I card I've always wanted to be viable, and his ability to gain tempo whilst playing seals.
3) Coldlight Oracle to draw into Rin, the First Disciple, or to fatigue the opponent after playing Azari, the Devourer.
5) Sacrificial Pact, one of the few warlock healing cards, combo's surprisingly well with the seals (heal of the initial weaker demons, or value trade the large ones and then heal). This would be a especially good if warlocks become more prevalent in the expansion. However if better ways for warlock to heal come about, or if Sacrificial Pact simply isn't good enough, I will probably replace them with Bloodmage Thalnos and a second Drain Soul.
6) "cheating out minions", eg. the Happy Ghoul and the Arcane Tyrant.
What do you guys think? Even if it does turn out to be a meme, hopefully it will atleast be a tier 3 or 4 meme deck ^^ With slight adjustments I think this type of card draw/tempo warlock could see competitive play in a non-rin version too!
Please give a like or a comment, I plan to make a video showcasing the deck once the expansion comes out!
If this deck gets 10 likes I'll craft Rin, the First Disciple GOLDEN! (by the time the expansion comes out) I've played since beta, have hit legend multiple times, but bc I am F2P have never crafted a golden card!I'll be sure to take a screenshot and post it here fore proof!
Next target: 30 likes for video guide!?!?
Was silenced both games I played. Too easy of a counter.
I'v played 10+ game so far and have yet to be silenced, what decks did you play against? The only solution I can think of is to try and run some kind of bait but not sure what. Like I said mine hasn't been silenced yet so haven't thought about it too much.
Typical priest carries a silence. Happened to go against it twice in a row
OMG, this actually works, at least for me, with a few modification: Dark Pact instead of Cho'gall and -1 Doomsayer +1 Mistress of Mixtures
it is important to have Cho'gall ?
Not essential, but seems really good as it allows you to get away with playing seals without losing tempo. Also upgrades the spellstones (as far as I am aware).
I'll give a more accurate reply once I've tested the deck more. I don't have cho'gall myself, so am planning to test the deck without it first.
So after some testing blood bloom doesn't activate the spellstone, so I assume the same is for Cho'gall. So he is probably one of the weaker cards in the deck. I think in the current meta best substitute would be the homunculus and also switch one out for the siphon too.
I feel like this deck lacks a win condition after playing Azari. Maybe Lord Jaraxxus?
Against most decks Azari is the only win condition you need. Bloodreaver Gul'dan can act as the final win condition, and even if you play it earlier, the hero power is strong enough to allow you to beat your opponents hand and they will eventually die to fatigue as you sustain (remember, after playing azari they will start taking fatigue damage where as you will still have a bit of a deck including some removal).
In addition Coldlight Oracle may cause your opponent to die from fatigue damage depending on whether you have played them yet or not.
It will definitely depend on the meta though and what sort of decks the opponents have. I will definitely be testing out different things. If you decide to test it with Jaraxxus yourself let me know how it goes please :D
My upwote was 10th! =)
Anyway this deck looks fun and hope Rin will be playable.
Thx for the upvote. I guess I get my excuse to craft my first golden card :D
Looks fun
looks decent. I am looking to play a control warlock in K&C, so hopefully this will give me a jumping off point.
Is there really enough self damaging cards to get the spellstones upgraded though?
I'm not sure, will only know after testing. If not tho then the simple solution is to add Vulgar Homunculus. I assume that bloodbloom would also proc the spellstone so that could be a cool consideration too. As stated there are alot of possible packages that could be put into this deck so it will be fun finding out which work the best, and I'm sure everyone will have their own taste.
