Hey guys!

It's been a while since I've played a good deck with Summoning Stone and Echo of Medivh in it. Do you miss these card too? :D If so, here is the solution!

By the way, I did the research: there is NO other deck on HearthPwn which does include Echo of Medivh, Summoning Stone and Kazakus. It's one of the kind... Crazy, right? XD

1,5 years back there was a deck, which made me a Reno Mage fan. Since then it's my most favorite deck type to play on ladder in the whole game :) The author's name was Ausschliessi and his deck was really sweet...
You can check it out right here:

Basically this is Ausschliessi's reworked deck.
So... what did I changed? A lot of things actually.

Also I had to remove:

  • the second Doomsayer (nowadays it's not worth running)
  • Ethereal Conjurer (love the card, but stats are too bad)
  • Jeweled Scarab (same, besides quite often you can get only neutral garbage cards)
  • Mind Control Tech (we have better tools to deal with board pressure)
  • Sylvanas Windrunner (not needed, very slow)
  • Dr. Boom and Ragnaros the Firelord (they have no synergy with the rest of the deck)
  • and finally Elise Starseeker (that was a really tough thing to do, cause I love this card and really miss her :( But still I'm pretty sure that nowadays it's better to keep all of your cards, and not transform them into random Legendaries)

What did I add?

If you think that Frost Lich Jaina doesnt make much sense here (or you simply dont have the card), you can replace her with Molten Reflection, cause it's quite powerful, when used on Summoning StoneEmperor Thaurissan or even Sludge Belcher and Doomsayer.

Well, that's pretty much it :)

Tell me what you think about the deck and upvote, if you want me to wrote the guide for it.
For now if you dont know how to play Reno Mage in general, you can check out my other deck (already with a guide), it has a really big overlap with this one in terms of playing on ladder:

Good luck and have fun! ^^

Update №1

I see that some of you are really interested in this deck, so... lets begin with the gameplan.

No doubt that the most cool way to win with this deck is to make sure that your Summoning Stone is safe on board and to just play a bunch of spells, while controling the board with all the random crap that you're getting from it :)

Echo of Medivh is supposed to be used with Summoning Stone or/and with all of these Discovery/card generation minions: Kabal Courier, Kazakus, Babbling Book.

But sometimes you're losing too much to do that. Then it's okay to use your Echo of Medivh even just on Reno Jackson/Antique Healbot + Brann Bronzebeard or something else purely defensive.

As I've already suggested, you can run Molten Reflection instead of Frost Lich Jaina. It might be really useful here and there.
For example, when your Doomsayer does go off, and you have the initiative, a VERY few cards can beat your Summoning Stone + Molten Reflection turn. Even if just one copy survives, you're winning by a lot.

How can you win against certain deck types?

Aggro

It should be easy enough: basically you're running all the defensive tools that Reno Mages have. Your Reno Jackson/Antique Healbot/Kazakus/Ice Barrier/Ice Block/Frost Nova/Doomsayer/Cone of Cold/Volcanic Potion/Blizzard/Meteor/Flamestrike/Sludge Belcher is must be more than enough to beat Aggro.

Midrange

Usually they cant even kill your Summoning Stone on the empty board, so that's exactly what you must try to accomplish. Dont be greedy, your cards on average has much more value than theirs. If you survived until the turn 8 and stabilized, you already won.

Control

Be VERY patient: your value cards are very vulnarable to direct answers. If you will not play greedy enough, the only card that will give you a chance is Frost Lich Jaina. You must setup the best Summoning Stone turn that you possibly can with your Emperor Thaurissan and NEVER go all in until the very end. Otherwise you'll simply lose to any boardclear, just like Patron Warrior does.

Combo

Just pressure them as hard as you can, while you're figuring out their exact Combo. Search for your Ice Block, try to exhaust their resourses. Dont forget that usually every Combo can be used only once per game. While you have basically 2 lifes :)

Update №1.5

There are the cards which certainly can be used in this deck, but I'm not sure about them:

  1. Arcane Giant - nice additional target for Echo of Medivh, dont think it's good enough to actually run it.
  2. Pyros - just a very good card, nice synergy with Frost Lich Jaina, dont know what to remove for it.
  3. Ragnaros the Firelord - same.
  4. Arcanologist + Counterspell/Duplicate - same.
  5. Simulacrum - can be used for a lot of things, like copying Doomsayer/Kazakus/Reno Jackson/Medivh, the Guardian/Summoning Stone or something else (like Arcane Giant).
  6. Molten Reflection - for mostly the same reasons.
  7. Flamewaker - just a solid card, not too expensive, but doesnt make much sense here either.
  8. Mana Wyrm - same.
  9. Medivh's Valet - same.
  10. Azure Drake + Arcane Blast - same.
  11. Fireball - probably worth running.
  12. Elise the Trailblazer - great mid/lategame value card, can be really useful against slow decks.

Test it, if you want to, and please give me some feedback about the changes that you've made and how did they affected your winrate/feelings about the deck ^^

Update №2.0

I felt like the previous version was a bit low on value... so I replaced Bloodmage Thalnos and Cone of Cold with Elise Starseeker and Molten Reflection.

No doubt that it made my deck worse against Aggro. But... now I can crush my slower opponents with a bunch of random legendaries just like in the old days :D

And Molten Reflection does allow me to make a much stronger proactive plays against Combo and Control decks.

I wonder what do you think about these changes? Is it more important to keep the deck competitive or to make it as fun as possible? :)

Update №2.1

Babbling Book is just a bad card it seems. Even Brann Bronzebeard/Echo of Medivh isnt enough to make it good. So... I guess Fireball is much better in this spot. Yes, no synergy here, but an extra removal might be crucial. And an average result from Babbling Book isnt all that good.
