Hey guys!
It's been a while since I've played a good deck with Summoning Stone and Echo of Medivh in it. Do you miss these card too? :D If so, here is the solution!
By the way, I did the research: there is NO other deck on HearthPwn which does include Echo of Medivh, Summoning Stone and Kazakus. It's one of the kind... Crazy, right? XD
1,5 years back there was a deck, which made me a Reno Mage fan. Since then it's my most favorite deck type to play on ladder in the whole game :) The author's name was Ausschliessi and his deck was really sweet...
You can check it out right here:

Basically this is Ausschliessi's reworked deck.
So... what did I changed? A lot of things actually.
- the second Frost Nova became Cone of Cold (to not screw up Reno Jackson/Kazakus)
- Loot Hoarder - Bloodmage Thalnos (it's just a better card)
- Explosive Sheep - Volcanic Potion (same)
- Forgotten Torch - Meteor (same)
- Duplicate - Ice Barrier (survivability is more important than extra value)
Also I had to remove:
- the second Doomsayer (nowadays it's not worth running)
- Ethereal Conjurer (love the card, but stats are too bad)
- Jeweled Scarab (same, besides quite often you can get only neutral garbage cards)
- Mind Control Tech (we have better tools to deal with board pressure)
- Sylvanas Windrunner (not needed, very slow)
- Dr. Boom and Ragnaros the Firelord (they have no synergy with the rest of the deck)
- and finally Elise Starseeker (that was a really tough thing to do, cause I love this card and really miss her :( But still I'm pretty sure that nowadays it's better to keep all of your cards, and not transform them into random Legendaries)
What did I add?
- Kazakus (no comment)
- Medivh, the Guardian (perfect here)
- Firelands Portal (same)
- Primordial Glyph (OP)
- Frost Lich Jaina (not much synergy here, but too strong to not include, especially considering Emperor Thaurissan)
If you think that Frost Lich Jaina doesnt make much sense here (or you simply dont have the card), you can replace her with Molten Reflection, cause it's quite powerful, when used on Summoning Stone, Emperor Thaurissan or even Sludge Belcher and Doomsayer.
- Kabal Courier (better than Jeweled Scarab and Ethereal Conjurer combined)
- Babbling Book (nice synergy with Brann Bronzebeard/Echo of Medivh)
- Acolyte of Pain (you need more card draw to keep up with Priests and Druids)
Well, that's pretty much it :)
Tell me what you think about the deck and upvote, if you want me to wrote the guide for it.
For now if you dont know how to play Reno Mage in general, you can check out my other deck (already with a guide), it has a really big overlap with this one in terms of playing on ladder:

Update №1
I see that some of you are really interested in this deck, so... lets begin with the gameplan.
No doubt that the most cool way to win with this deck is to make sure that your Summoning Stone is safe on board and to just play a bunch of spells, while controling the board with all the random crap that you're getting from it :)
Echo of Medivh is supposed to be used with Summoning Stone or/and with all of these Discovery/card generation minions: Kabal Courier, Kazakus, Babbling Book.
But sometimes you're losing too much to do that. Then it's okay to use your Echo of Medivh even just on Reno Jackson/Antique Healbot + Brann Bronzebeard or something else purely defensive.
As I've already suggested, you can run Molten Reflection instead of Frost Lich Jaina. It might be really useful here and there.
For example, when your Doomsayer does go off, and you have the initiative, a VERY few cards can beat your Summoning Stone + Molten Reflection turn. Even if just one copy survives, you're winning by a lot.
How can you win against certain deck types?
Aggro
It should be easy enough: basically you're running all the defensive tools that Reno Mages have. Your Reno Jackson/Antique Healbot/Kazakus/Ice Barrier/Ice Block/Frost Nova/Doomsayer/Cone of Cold/Volcanic Potion/Blizzard/Meteor/Flamestrike/Sludge Belcher is must be more than enough to beat Aggro.
Midrange
Usually they cant even kill your Summoning Stone on the empty board, so that's exactly what you must try to accomplish. Dont be greedy, your cards on average has much more value than theirs. If you survived until the turn 8 and stabilized, you already won.
Control
Be VERY patient: your value cards are very vulnarable to direct answers. If you will not play greedy enough, the only card that will give you a chance is Frost Lich Jaina. You must setup the best Summoning Stone turn that you possibly can with your Emperor Thaurissan and NEVER go all in until the very end. Otherwise you'll simply lose to any boardclear, just like Patron Warrior does.
Combo
Just pressure them as hard as you can, while you're figuring out their exact Combo. Search for your Ice Block, try to exhaust their resourses. Dont forget that usually every Combo can be used only once per game. While you have basically 2 lifes :)
Update №1.5
There are the cards which certainly can be used in this deck, but I'm not sure about them:
- Arcane Giant - nice additional target for Echo of Medivh, dont think it's good enough to actually run it.
- Pyros - just a very good card, nice synergy with Frost Lich Jaina, dont know what to remove for it.
- Ragnaros the Firelord - same.
- Arcanologist + Counterspell/Duplicate - same.
- Simulacrum - can be used for a lot of things, like copying Doomsayer/Kazakus/Reno Jackson/Medivh, the Guardian/Summoning Stone or something else (like Arcane Giant).
- Molten Reflection - for mostly the same reasons.
- Flamewaker - just a solid card, not too expensive, but doesnt make much sense here either.
- Mana Wyrm - same.
- Medivh's Valet - same.
- Azure Drake + Arcane Blast - same.
- Fireball - probably worth running.
- Elise the Trailblazer - great mid/lategame value card, can be really useful against slow decks.
Test it, if you want to, and please give me some feedback about the changes that you've made and how did they affected your winrate/feelings about the deck ^^
Update №2.0
I felt like the previous version was a bit low on value... so I replaced Bloodmage Thalnos and Cone of Cold with Elise Starseeker and Molten Reflection.
No doubt that it made my deck worse against Aggro. But... now I can crush my slower opponents with a bunch of random legendaries just like in the old days :D
And Molten Reflection does allow me to make a much stronger proactive plays against Combo and Control decks.
I wonder what do you think about these changes? Is it more important to keep the deck competitive or to make it as fun as possible? :)
Update №2.1
Babbling Book is just a bad card it seems. Even Brann Bronzebeard/Echo of Medivh isnt enough to make it good. So... I guess Fireball is much better in this spot. Yes, no synergy here, but an extra removal might be crucial. And an average result from Babbling Book isnt all that good.
If you're wondering what's the gameplay looks like, check out the showcase made by Sean Cool:
Pleasent guide, but I quite dissagree with the removal of Forgotten Torch to be honest. Meteor, oh yes a very strong card, but it doesn't necersarily serve the same purpouse and I would actually prefer getting rid of the Cabalist's Tome. Other than that cool idea not actually sure that Summoning Stone is worth it but I sure do love it as I crafted them in Golden ages back haha.
Huh, okay :)
What would you remove for Forgotten Torch then?
I'm glad you enjoy it ^^
And actually I dont like Cabalist's Tome myself... but not sure what to put in the deck instead...
I wouldnt recommend you to do that, but sure, try it out and share your thoughts about the results :)
The thing is that IMO Dirty Rat isnt needed here, neither is Deathlord: you can beat most of the Combo decks with just Ice Block + Reno Jackson.
Personally I dont like Deathlord at all: I even removed him from my N'Zoth, the Corruptor deck :P
I like very much the concept but 0/5 at level 20 is a little harsh. I may test it again but it seems I play it badly.
Control Mage is really hard to play correctly indeed. But despite that it is very rewarding, when you're doing it right. Personally I play this kind of decks no matter what's my rank at the moment, but I wouldnt recommend you to do so...
If you're facing a lot of bad decks, just play Aggro/Midrange/something faster. And when you see that winning has become much more difficult, switch back to Control Mage.
This deck is a lot of fun, but still very skill demanding.
Learn. Experiment. Have fun. And everything will be fine :)
Good luck!
Thanks, I'm glad you like it ^^
Yes, the matches can be very long, but that's what I rather like about Control decks in general, cause every your decision does actually matter.
And this deck in particular was made mostly for fun :)
Oh man why have you replaced Bloodmage Thalnos. It's the best 2 drop in early game and pretty effective in the late game. Too much value for 2 mana cards.
I've posted my version (added Emperor)
It's good, sure. Not necessary though :P
I did it cause there is not much else that can be replaced while keeping the soul of the deck intact at the same time...
And I wouldnt say that Bloodmage Thalnos is perfect on turn 2. Or later. Decent? Maybe. Not great :)
But usually I run him in almost every deck, where I dont struggle with card slots SO much.
where is meat wagon?
WTF are you talking about? XD
Why Meat Wagon? For the ultimate memes? :)
As long as Summoning Stone hasn't been drawn, Meat Wagon can summon it.
Sure. Summoning Stone or Doomsayer :)
Which means that 1/2 of the time you will get the wrong one.
Besides, Meat Wagon is just a bad (meme) card. It can be good from time to time, but usually it will not.
If you're serious about this card though, what would you replace with it?
I also play Renomage. Ragnaros the Firelord suits well in this deck. If you have played DK, It also becomes Ragnaros, Lightlord.
Dr. Boom is also fine, best 7 drop, Boombots are good targets for Icy Touch of Frost Lich Jaina
I'm well aware about these interactions :) Sure, it's a couple of very good cards, but... all of the rest cards seems to be pretty decent.
Which one would you remove for Ragnaros the Firelord/Dr. Boom?
I think Frost Nova and Antique Healbot are not required, because you have +8 armor secret and Reno Jackson, besides Frost Nova + Doomsayer combo doesn't work every time when you have only one copy of each card. It's my style of game, just sayin )
Here is my Renomage which I used to hit Legend, if you wanna check out) ~>
AAEBAf0EHk2KAcABuwLQAvYClQPJA6sE7QSWBe0FuQbsB/sM9w2BDp4QwxaSrAKBsgKjtgKhtwLpugLYuwKYxAKWxwLPxwKgzgKb0wIAAA==
Yeah, I can see that...
But there is still a shitload of Aggro, which is constantly trying to put you low on health.
And even without Doomsayer Frost Nova can be a pretty good card. In some way it's another heal... Besides, it's a nice combo with Emperor Thaurissan and Summoning Stone :)
Ice Barrier is here for you, but unless you'll get it basically for free from your Mad Scientist (50/50) it's such a bad card... It's even worse than Healing Touch. And Healing Touch is an AWFUL card... It can be used on the minion. Can be used on demand. Heals you in the moment you play it.
None of this can be said about Ice Barrier. AND it has no synergy with Brann Bronzebeard.
Sure, I'll check out your deck ^^
