GUIDE
As you can see from the decklist, this version of rush rogue has a lot of the same elements of the original Backspace rogue. But as you may know, backspace rogue isn't doing so hot in the current meta. Reason being is hunters. Not exactly hunters, however, because backspace rogue has a really strong matchup against them anyways. But other classes that emerged to the surface to beat hunters, like priest or control warrior.
Now this deck has a lot more consistency in those matchups due to its stealth "theme". Anywho, here's a quick review of the cards you don't normally see in standard rush rogue decks:
- Patient Assassin ( A lot of ppl will say this cards sucks. However I strongly disagree. Its use is not so singular as you might think its is. Lets face it, nobody is gonna play ancient of war while this little guy is lurking in the shadows. But thats the whole point of it. It makes ppl do awkward plays, usually use some sort of aoe to clear it asap. And that can be also its use. Imagine you have a squire, defias ringleader and a loot hoarder in hand. You can literally play patient assassin to force out aoe removal from your opponent and then swarm the board the next turn. Honestly, I'd much rather have this highly utility cards in my deck than another leper gnome/loot hoarder or whatnot. Oh also its a flare magnet, so your shades and your tiger get value instead. )
- Shade of Naxxramas ( I'm running 2x of these since I don't have Mukla, but honestly they are performing quite well, especially in matchups like zoo where it allows you to make favorable trades )
- Stanglethorn Tiger ( In the first version of the deck, Black Knight was in this kitty's spot. However I think tiger is superior. First off, its a sludge belcher slayer. It deals with highmane as well. Synergizes with shadowstep too (altho its probably one of the worse shadowstep targets, but sometimes you just need that damage consistency), its just all around a really good card. )
Every other card in this deck is fairly commonly played in any kind of rush rogue version.
Mulligans:
You look for low drops, Squire, Leper Gnome, Shade of Naxx, Deadly Poison. With coin you look for Ringleader and SI:7.
Class specific matchups:
/ Coming soon / (i'm lazy sry)
August 2015, still working very nice, even if I replaced Leeroy by Argent commander and patient assassin by a master of disguise (not a correct replacement but no one ever plays this card so i've put her there for fun) because I don't have them.
So I'm not gonna lie. I have never posted to curse's website before, despite numerous netdeck lookups. After a rough morning with my millstone druid deck (custom job, constant WIP) and my ramp-o-bot druid (ramp + alarm o bot) I decided eh, I'll remake an aggro rogue deck after deleting mine after naxx cards hit the scene.
I found this and it looked well.. kind of awful. That said, I decided to yolo it and try it with my cards (some swaps were made to include mukla, swapped loot hoarder for thalnos, etc). Just minor stuff. Maybe 4-5 cards diff.
No lie... first game, I get a turn 2 mukla drop (via coin) - player concedes on their turn 3. (was a priest).
Second game? Druid who concedes after I coin out a shade on turn 2. (He conceded on turn 3 as well).
Things keep up like this, I might have a new favorite deck :P
Glad you like it :) I actually haven't played this deck since the Leeroy nerf so I don't really know how its performing now :D Maybe I'll try climbing with it this season since I didn't get legend this season yet :) Hopefully it gets you high on the ladders too! Cheers
Hum i have played this deck 7-8 games now and i found it very inconsistant. Only won 1 game out of all and all the lost were pretty one sided. Maybe it is just my bad luck, maybe it is me not being able to play this deck but i found it very open hand dependant. Also there are a lot of situational card and 1 of, much more than the origina backstab, that really kill the pressure like patient assasin. The heavy deathrattle meta have very good way to deal with the high attack low health minion and it is not even a 1 for 1 trade also with 0 backstab i really struggle vs Zoo who will get the better trade. I can see how strong it could be vs certain matchup but it seems to be as weak vs other. On my range on ladder there is a too big variety of deck for this deck to be reliable. To finish i have a quick question, why a tiger and not a second arcane golem? it is 2 mana cheaper synergize with coldblood and shadowstep better and only 1 damage under but has charge, you can exploit more a lack of taunt a turn than the tiger. The tiger allow them to set up a taunt wall next turn and telegraph more your next turn.
Fun deck. Played a few games, 3-2 and I suck at it, so I'm going to burn a couple of murlocs and craft Patient Assassin. There's already been two occasions when he would've been perfect.
how can you deal with haunted creeper's spiders without fan of knives?
There is simply no spot for fan in a deck like this. There's two ways of approaching this and that depends on your current hand and prediction of damage output. If your hand is slow, you probably need to kill it on turn 3 with SI:7 or deadly poison. The spectral spiders will clean themselves up as the hunter will be forced to make trades. You are the aggressor of this matchup, not the hunter.
If you have an explosive hand where u can calculate a lot of damage in the following turns you can just ignore it, let it get houndmastered and sap it.
what do you think of The Black Knight mixed in? im currently using him in this deck and he has set up lethal for me a few times, especially vs control decks.
Sure, I used to run it in this deck instead of the stranglethorn tiger.
You've got my like on this deck specially since Preparation has eluded me so far. Did a quick run, won 2, lost 1. Weapons and warriors seem to be tough with it tho.
Looking forward to the guide.
can you tell us what you mulligan for?
Depends on a matchup, but you usually mulligan for low drops: squires, deadly poison, leper gnome, loot hoarder, shade of naxx... If you have a coin you should keep the SI:7 / Defias Ringleader. In most matchups you won't be using coldlight before turn 6 or 7, except handlock (which is really rare this season).
I'm really lazy but I promise I will try making a full guide soon :)
I actually have it (patient assassin), btw something to replace it?
Hm 2nd Loot Hoarder / Leper Gnome / Fairy Dragon
thanks ill try
I don't have it. :) You can put Mukla instead of 1 Shade. Although Shades have been performing quite well.
Actually it owns :D The thing about patient assassin is that ppl do really awkward plays to kill it or w/e. It sucks up removal like a sponge. A lot of druids just swipe face on turn 4 to get rid of it :D Also with the whole stealth theme, hunters usually flare it and that allows shades and strangletorn kitty to get full value.
It just forces out really awkward plays and sometimes gets value too obviously :) Try it out u won't be dissapointed :D
good deck
What about put Thalnos instead of Loot Hoader? I think +1 sp wil be better in many situation than 1 attack. Also, It takes you a card too. What do you think about this?
Thalanos is fine but his use is very situational in this deck since you only have evisc and flurry to profit from it. But some ppl run thalanos in aggro rogues so feel free to try it out.
