Hey guys,
I decided to share a deck with you, that took me to the legend in just few hours. It basically has no auto-lose matchup in current meta and is able to pull out some incredible combacks thanks to Armorsmith and Alley Armorsmith.
As you can see, I had more versions of the deck. The last one is the one you can see here and it has done the best. I started using it at rank 3 with 89% winrate. What you can see here are stats from rank 5 to legend (about 83% winrate and score of 37-8)
You probably already get why it is Donald Trump Warrior. It builds a wall no mexic-… sorry, no aggro player can pierce.
I will not talk a lot about strategy since most of you have already played the taunt warrior most likely... Our goal is of course to get the quest done (unless you play against super fast aggro, then it´s just to survive and stabilize the board). With this deck you should be able to finish the quest between turns 8-10, maybe later depending on the opponent and your card draws. Against aggro matchups you will be looking for the 3-drops and Armorsmith. If you have a good hand and a coin, you can also go for Saronite Chain Gang which is actually one of the mvp´s against fast decks. In slower matchups you won´t care about Armorsmith or even Ravaging Ghoul. Just look for stonehill deffender , Tar Creeper and again – saronite chain gang .
If you are really sure you are facing super fast deck, you can mulligan away your quest. But you should do that only against really fast decks that are not going into the late game. (Pirate warrior, token druid, aggro rogue usually doesn´t go into late game too… with hunters it is not that simple since people started playing the death knight so the game might last a bit longer.
Cards:
Battle Rage
It gives you a good card draw whenever needed. Since you have so many taunts, there usually is something damaged and you get at least two cards. Definitely not a mulligan keeper, but very usefull card later in the game.
Dirty Rat
Dirty rat is a very situational card and you have to think twice before using it in every game. TBH the main reason to have this card are not fast decks. It can help too, but Dirty Rat is always risky so be ready to remove whatever comes on board. It is actually your win condition against exodia mage – In this matchup, you have to wait with Dirty Rat as long as possible. Let your opponent get rid of murlocs, Arcanologists etc. and when these cards have been played, just go for it. You will have enough mana, the board and should be able to destroy Archmage Antonidas, in worse case you will get Sorcerers Apprentice which is not great, but still can win you the game. Against “razakus” priest, it is good to use it before turn 4 or 5 so you have a chance to remove Kazakus or even Raza the Chained. You need to be careful tho, because you can also pull Lyra the Sunshard. In other matchups you mostly use it to get better value of the brawl or as a “handbrake” to stop your opponent.
Saronite Chain Gang
Might not seem like that, but it is one of the cards that make this deck so strong. Since it summons two taunt minions it makes it really hard to get around it for aggro. Silence effects are played now a lot in fast decks, so it is much better than for example Bloodhoof Brave. These slaves also gave amazing synergy with Armorsmith and cards like Sleep with the Fishes because they help to get the damage done.
EDIT: Adding matchups and some Q&A, also a video from one guy commenting on the deck
Matchups:
Great matchups, above 70% win: Evolve shaman, Token Paladin, Frostlich Jaina Freeze mage, Fatigue Warrior
Good matchups - favoured unless you are unlucky, around 70% win: Hunter, Keleseth rogue, Token druid
50/50 matchups: Control DK Warlock, Big priest, Secret mage
Bad Matchups: Highlander priest, Jade druid - If you meet them a lot add a skulking geist instead of tar creeper.
FAQ:
Q:Is the deck viable without Lich King? I don´t have it.
A: Lich King is a nice addition to the taunt warrior but not core card. The deck should work quite well without it too.
Q: When do I mulligan quest away?
A: Right now, anytime you see a Rogue or Hunter. Other classes have more archetypes (Warrior, druid) so you can´t be sure it is aggro. If you are sure, send the quest away against those two too.
Q: I lose to Highlander priests, am I doing something wrong?
A: Not necessary. It is the hardest matchup. You put your hopes into the dirty rat pulling Raza. T4 should be ideal time to play it since the priests keep it in hand whenever they can. Also try to get value out of armorsmiths, you have many minions in SWP range, play them before Armorsmith and Alley armorsmith to make sure they do not get killed without any value.
Q: Hunters rush me down, why?
A: Right now I am not meeting hunters with deathstalker, If you are not too, mulligan away your quest.
Keep the board clear at all costs. Ghoul/razorblade even for one 1/1 beast. The 1/1 can bring some big value for them (Turning it into 3/3 or 4/1, poisonous minion etc.)
If you play the razorblade just for whirlwind effect, hit face so you have another one ready for next turn.
Dropping more smaller taunts is better than dropping a big guy because of deadly shot, silence effects.
Do not be affraid to trade with face.
Use armorsmith wisely - when you drop chain gang, alley armorsmith (it at least give you chance to avoid deadly shot). If you are in a bad spot at the start of the game sacrifice it.Especially in a position when there are 3 1/1 minions on board (alleycat and grandmother usually). You risk a big hyena that would lose you the game but it gets you more time to get to play aoe and if you don´t do anything you would probably lose anyway. Turns 5-7 should be the point where you start taking control of the game with SWTF, Brawl etc.
Aslo if you are in a bad spot early and have ghoul and SWTF, drop ghoul and go SWTF next turn. Again - it is not ideal play but what we are trying to do against hunters is stalling the game as much as possible.
Q: Jade druid destroys me, does Skulking Geist help?
A: Yes, yes and yes! I have been meeting them recenly quite a lot, since adding it instead of tar creeper I haven´t lost a single game against them yet.
Gameplay video by Kadakk:
One of you tried the deck and sent me a video so you can see, how the deck looks in action, thanks to Kadakk. As I myself do not make Videos, I will be happy if anyone of you who try the deck makes a video to show people how the games go with the deck.
If you want to know anything else, just let me know. I hope you will enjoy success with this deck as much as I have. All comments and support feedback are welcome. Thanks for reading and have fun.
This is an excellent point. I was just about to switch decks after watching my 77% win rate drop to 56%. I just stopped an analyzed what I'm losing to, and the priest/druid decks are kicking my butt! So I think the Geist is definitely worth it -- as those games go deep, and by then you should be able to draw into it.
Another point, which has been already been discussed by the OP -- timing of the Dirty Rat against Mage / Priest can really swing the game. Just wanted to re-surface this for anyone reading and considering their own strategy.
Fun deck, thanks for sharing. Still sitting at Rank 4 -- went from 5 to 3, but my last several games have been quite challenging.
Looks great, wanna try it though it will eat all my dust.)
How is it going with Keleseth decks?
Not sure if it is worth spending all the dust you have, the meta is still changing after nerfs and becomes more control based. Decks get more techs to remove minions and control warlock, razakus priest etc become more oriented to beat control decks like this one. When I got the winrate these decks were much more oriented to beat aggro than now. Not sure how long will the good wr last.
But if you want to beat keleseth decks, this one is decent, it has aroud 60-70 % winrate against them (Well... I have it and I can´t say I play perfect, I guess it can be even better). You can mulligan away your quest. If you meet a lot of them, you can go with a second dirty rat (I put it in instead of tar creeper because of priests exodia mages and rogues, also there is much less hunters which were dangerous for dirty rat but still testing it, played just 10 games with 7-3). The dirty rat is not a big risk against keleseth decks so it helps a lot, there is not many big threats and the deck has many tech cards. To talk about warlock I played just two games against them in legend rank. The first one got just insane hand into my really bad one, the other one lost to me while I had 30 hp and armor so I can´t tell you how it does cinsistently against warlocks.
If you decide to craft it, have fun and success!
Wow! Thank you very much for such a detailed answer. I appreciate it.
Love it. Making Warrior great again ;)
do you really think saronite chain gang is a really strong card? it only counts as one minion for the quest and its typically steam rolled. unless you play this card on turn four I find i was wishing i had better taunt minions.
I get your point, but the card is there because of a lot of aggro. If I play against Rogue, shaman, hunter or pirate warrior that already runs out of steam, dropping two taunts is just a disaster for them because they rely on topdecks and in that position they often have just one minion - destroying your taunt with the topdeck could win them the game, not happening if you have two taunts. Of course, against control it is not that good card since it can be removed by aoe (especially enforcer against warlock). Also as I write in the description it is very resistant to: Deadly shot, silence, vilespine etc. and having less targets for silence/vilespine gets you time (and usually two damage to TWO minions getting them into aoe range) - also it has good synergy with: Armorsmith, SWTF and Battle rage. I often find myself in a position where i have 10 or less hp, but get out of it in more than half of these situations.
But of course that is just my point of view, you can definitely try replacing it with something you feel is better. For me it is really great card against aggro and that is why I put it in the deck. Also depends on what you meet. Anyway thanks for your suggestion. Hope I explained why I think it is strong. If you meet many control decks, feel free to go for a bigger minion instead and don´t forget to let me know how you did with the change, I will be happy to continue improving the deck :)
Thanks for the feedback i'll play some games tonight and let you know how i'm feeling about the card. deck looks great though and good job on the WR%
Upvoted just because of a great guide :D
Hey,
great to hear it does well for others as well. I will be happy if you keep us updated about your score and how it did agaisnt some matchups. Have fun! :)
Giving it a try, will keep you posted!
how did it go?
Hello, I will wait for your reply, hope it does well for you too! Good luck climbing ;)
Went really well, dropped to rank 9 but hovering around there but definitely some good in this deck, the mets is swamped with priests now and I'm about 50/50 with them
