Come in and Warm your Frozen Boots by the Fire!
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Gunnolf, and I am originally from the Land Down Under a.k.a. Australia. I am an avid gamer that has acquired a real passion for card games, which originated from my humble beginnings as a Yu-Gi-Oh collector and eventually grew from my dabbling in Cardfight Vanguard and Buddyfight, until we reached the game we know as Hearthstone.
I've played Hearthstone since the days of classic, with multiple accounts on both EU and NA servers. Despite having reached the Rank of Legend and my own personal mentality of equating 'having fun' with 'winning', I am not really a fan of meta power-grinding & net-decking, not that there is anything wrong with that. Therefore, I enjoy thinking about new, cool and fun deck ideas that push boundaries while also allowing you to win and those are what I want to share with you guys every-time I post a decklist.
I have presently become a contributing writer to WILDHS and will be posting articles there on a semi-regular basis, regarding deck-archetypes the status of the meta as well as how to get the most fun out of this game even if you aren't a big spender. If any of this sounds interesting, then I highly recommend that you check out of the website, as the writers and the owner himself are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet with great in-game knowledge (link to be website can be found HERE). You can also follow me on Twitter for latest updates.
If you genuinely like my content and would like to see me produce more of it, then please consider supporting me on Patreon. This is by no means necessary but it will definitely help me out in the long run. Thanks for Reading ^^
Deck Introduction
Greetings friends and welcome to another icey blast from the not too distant past. Today, we'll be looking at the classic freezemage style of play and how we can spice up the deck with the MASTER OF MAGIC himself, good old Malygos. As showcased above, the deck presented is something akin to classic Freezemage lists, with an interesting twist that doesn't make it lose any of its competitive edge!
Card Choices Explained
The Medivh's Valet and Primordial Glyph offer additional options in dealing with aggro as well as the possibility of discovering additional burn damage. They have replaced Forgotten Torch and Novice Engineer.
However, a case can also be made for the latter if you wish to run additional burn and card-draw. If you so desire you can also run a mix of Medivh's Valet and Novice Engineer thus making sure that your draws will be faster AND more consistent overall. These two card slots are largely dependent on player's preference.
Win condition
This version of freezemage presently has two different win conditions:
-Primary win condition: Malygos + 2x Frostbolt + 2x Ice Lance after an Emperor Thaurissan Tick (for 34 damage or -1 Frostbolt for 27)
-Secondary win condition: Alexstrasza + Burn Damage
Want to be more Competitive?
Although a decent amount of thought was put into constructing this deck and adding an interesting twist without taking away its competitive edge, if you would like to play the most competitive version of Freeze Mage, then I would strongly recommend checking out any list that involves Evolved Kobold. My own personal deck can be found below, if you so wish to view it!

Author's Notes
I enjoy deck-building a multitude of interesting decks that are both entertaining and Legend viable (with some odd Free-to-Play lists mixed in). So if you like this deck (or anyone of my other ones) consider leaving a thumbs up, as it really helps in the long run! :)
Thank you guys for all your support and if you have any suggestions, let me know.
You can't just build a malygos mage deck and skip rhonin. you just don't. That's kinda the only reason why maly in mage is a thing. rhonin. a regular freeze mage with kobold would perform better on average so why bother swapping kobold for maly if you're not adding that extra 3 x (3+5) damage. You rarely play a game where you don't use your frostbolts or lances in order to survive these high paced cards like call to arms or just get weaponed down by a warrior. I think ditching valet for volcanic potion is a good aggro counter. medivhs valet isn't even a freeze mage card imo.
You can choose to build the deck however you like. This is however a pretty old build not meant to take to cards like Call to Arms into consideration. This is primarily a freeze mage deck so of course I would skip Rhonin. He is too slow and clunky and his missiles do absolutely nothing if you are facing down a board of minions. On a last note, as a Freezemage if you continuously use all your Frostbolts and Ice Lances to stay alive then you are just not playing the dck correctly. You'll occasionally need to use them but not every game.
exactly. if you use your frostbolts and icelances you should make sure that you have another win condition, like outlasting and healing with alex, or alexing them and burning them with 2x fireball+valet/glyph card.
recognizing your win condition at certain points of a game is a big part of playing freeze mage.
however, it is a bit of a pitty that this deck doesen't have more twists compared to the kobold version. i guess some sort of barnes, rhonin package would just not be good, but it does feel like there should be some undiscovered potential in malygos mage
Definitely not my strongest deck in terms of creativity haha.
I'm sure I'll see the light soon enough though! :D
oh, ORDER lol.
Yeah, that's what I meant haha. I'll make sure to change it around. Have fun and let me know how you do. Theoretically with so many Razanduin priests on ladder you should do well, although Evolved Kobold freezemage is more competitive! ;)
