Hello everyone, I am here with another deck guide, and this time it's a really funny one, as I really like to bend the rules of Hearthstone :) Allow me to present you the Obsidian Rage Priest!
This deck is all about cheating a big minion into play and reviving it as soon as you can. As such, there are very few minions in the deck to ensure that you get what you need with Barnes and Shadow Essence. So you just try to stall for a while with your spells, and as soon as you can you go for some huge minion, which should then kill your opponent quickly.
Pirate Warrior is the worst matchup for this deck as you have a hard time preventing rush damage that he is capable of, but other aggro decks are fine, as dealing with the board is your strong suit. You especially want to play against Shaman or Taunt Druid, as you just cheat a big taunt minion to play early and they have a hard time dealing with that.
Against control your best bet to win is to play Y’Shaarj, Rage Unbound as many times as you can, and usually they won’t have answer to it for the third time or so. If they still somehow manage to clear your board, then you must get as much value as you can from Thoughtsteal and Devour Mind to beat them.
If you could choose one card that would always start in your hand, it would be Barnes. Drawing him is insane, and is the single best card in the deck by far to get. Other than that you can keep Shadow Essence in most matchups as it is your main gameplan, but if you think they will be hyper aggressive then you might have to toss it. Shadow Word: Pain and Shadow Visions are also good keep basically no matter what, and I keep Mind Vision most of the time as well. Thanks to aforementioned deck restriction this card had to make the cut, and it helps you to do anything in the early game as they should have some cheap cards in hand after they mulligan.
Against aggro you are looking for Potion of Madness, and Holy Smite is also good, especially if you are on the draw.
Against control you can keep Eternal Servitude as the card is great and game will go quite long. Thoughtsteal is also a good keep, especially on the play.
And just a small bonus to wrap it up, you should keep Shadow Word: Horror versus Shaman and mulligan it when you play against anything else.
I really dug deep to find any playable spells, so I don’t think there is much you can change there, but if you figure out something then sure let me know. Where you get to make the choices is you minion combo package.
I know I said that Barnes is the best card, but theoretically you could cut him as it greatly improves your Shadow Essence as you will always hit something good. I think that Barnes compensates for this with him being super strong when drawn, but I just wanted to let you know that this could be a possibility.
After that there is only Y’Shaarj, Rage Unbound that has to be in the deck, and all the others are optional. Obsidian Statue is real huge brick wall against aggro, but if you are playing versus control all the time, you could just switch one of them for Ysera.
The Lich King can also be removed from the deck if you don’t have him or feel like you have too many big targets in the deck, and I have played for a long time with this deck with Devour Mind in his place.
That's all I have for you today guys, hope you enjoyed my article! I really recommend that you try this deck, it’s very good and so much fun. As always, don’t forget to see the Youtube video if you are interested in some gameplay, and if you liked the deck, then Youtube subscribe is greatly appreciated. See you next week with another deck guide!
Cheers

No, I've played quite a bit with this deck, now and it's just not that good. When it works, it works and its good, but a lot of times you have a dead hand until turn 5-7, your resurrects include a bunch of bad cards from your opponent's deck, and you don't get Barnes in a vaguely timely manner. This is a fun deck that will maybe get you to rank 15. and not much more.
Love this deck. Lot of fun with the steal based mechanics to counter your opponent. Barnes + Eternal servitude + Shadow Essence is really dirty when it comes right (Barnes first).
Sometimes I found myself a bit overwhelmed by cards, with the Lich King DK cards not always playable, Devour Mind not playable to not burn cards and always in hand by consequence... and some stolen cards unplayable (other classes DK unfortunately).
It is part of the fun anyway :)
Stealing a Class DK is AMAZING. There is no downside to playing them. In one game against a Demon Handlock, I got the Warlock DK. I played Anduin DK first, then when I'd stabilized the board, I played the Warlock DK. As I had more cards left in my deck than he did, and I was neutralizing his hero power with my own, he could do nothing but concede. You even stay as their DK own the victory screen. Fun times.
What ?! I could not play Malfurion DK when I get it. It went back in my hand at each summoning try...
I had this problem as well when playing on phone, When you play him, don't tap anywhere else on the board to minimize your cards. Otherwise, the game prompts that as a misplay and doesn't generate the "choose one" option. Basically, you have to play him and get the choose one option before you click on the screen again...
My mid-range Paly just got WRECKED by this deck. Ouch...
I have been playing this deck a ton and when it works, it wins every time, and when it doesn't, it loses pathetically. Any turn 3 or 4 Barnes is an auto win, but you're often left looking at the wrong cards for the situation, and sometimes even throwing cards away to avoid burning cards. I went from one game dominating an Aggro Druid with 4 Statues in a row, to conceding on turn 4 against Pirate Warrior because I had done nothing and no cards worth playing.
I started with the stock list above, but I have removed one Pint-Sized and the Devour Mind for a Greater Healing Potion and the Anduin DK. That DK is very important as it wins the mirror and gives you a chance against Jade Druid (he just won me a game at 2 life staring down a 15/15 and a 16/16 idol).
This is a very difficult deck to pilot and it will frustrate you in many games, but yeah, rolling Liches and Statues turn after turn does make it worth it sometimes.
how does this deck compare to EZ priest? more fun with less minions + steals? I found in EZ barns and shadow visions are often the last cards in my deck no matter how hard I mulligan.
looks like with less minions you could easily have minions in hand before drawing the "cheat" summons
Thanks to this Deck i got 11 Friend Requests...
I run a deck similar to this with those cards and I don't think so. Ysera's minion generation is second to none and it synergizes with dragon fire potion.
I just can't make this work. Stuck at Rank 15, winning one, losing the next. I draw my minions way too often, except for Barnes. He always is pulled by Shadow Essence and Y'Shaarj. Pretty frustrating so far.
When I win, I win in a pretty dominant fashion, when I lose, I lose by a mile.
Without getting to in-depth I made some changes to the deck. I feel the deck benefits from Free From Amber, it fits the theme so well it's insane. It's a spell and the creature it gives will almost always work with Eternal Servitude nicely. Not only that but it allows for more late game answers to the board. Plus it's another spell to discover a copy of from Shadow Visions. With all the synergies for the card in the deck it seems silly not to run at least 1.
Alternately I am thinking of trying to find a space for Cabal Shadow Priest, into the deck as there seems to be a lot of 2 attack minions in the meta that are rather strong. Alley Armorsmith jumps to mind right off the bat. Also when combo'd with Pint-Size Potion, it's easy to steal anything 5 attack of lower. I haven't found a good fit for it yet though. It could replace a Devour Mind, or even the second Dragonfire Potion.
This deck and variations of it is by far my favorite Priest deck in years. Is it perfect? No. But it's fun, it's powerful and it's competitive.
From rank 4 to rank 3 slowly. nice deck!
I took off devour mind for greater healing potion. been countering lot of aggro and the bit of heal helps.
I have to say this is probably my favourite deck I've played in a long time. So far it's helped me get from rank 17 to rank 11 and still climbing! great fun to play, too
I love the deck! But usually Barnes comes out of Shadow Essence, making res a bit worthless until late game. And by that time it's usually too late. Can't really steal cards either, as hand tends to be quite full.
Works 99% of the time, 56% of the time
It's pretty good archetype, but I don't like this decklist. You usually don't play too many cards before turn 6, so there is not enough space in your hand to play Devour Mind or even Thoughtsteal, in lategame too, because of Lich King or Ysera (If you run it, she is amazing in this deck) cards. One copy of Greater Healing Potion is great as well, it saved me many times, Silence is also doing really nice job.
Unfortunately, I don't have yshaarj-rage-unbound. Was wondering if Blood of the Ancient One is an acceptable alternative considering there is a chance to double up on him?
I am doing pretty well with this deck. I only have one Obsidian Statue, so I subbed in one Charged Devilsayr. It has helped out pretty well as a finished of sorts when games go long.
