Edit 8/7: -1 Defender of Argus, +1 Shadow Visions
A first draft of standard Dragon Priest after the expansion. Knights of the Frozen Throne is bringing two very good Dragon cards with it. Cobalt Scalebane and Bone Drake. Priest still has Drakonid Operative and Dragonfire Potion also.
Ysera could be considered over one copy of Primordial Drake. I left 2x Primordial Drake as well as 2x Dragonfire Potion to maximum board clears. We also have favorable odds to get a high costing Dragon from either Netherspite Historian or Bone Drake.
what about kabal songstealer? it has seen a lot of play in similer priest decks for a prety long time by now.
I like that card, and especially if Silence will be more effective with the expansion cards. Maybe could sub 1x Cobalt Scalebane for 1x Kabal Songstealer if needed.
why would u use cobalt scalebane over 1 more copy of both shadow words? this card isnt very solid and the deck can usually slide past turn 5 with operatives or even twilight drakes.
I think Cobalt Scalebane will be really good, especially in a Dragon deck like this where there are a lot of high health minions. We have two copies of Shadow Word: Pain, only one copy of Shadow Word: Death. If another copy of SW: D is absolutely needed we can consider dropping 1x Scalebane.
For now, I will change the Defender of Argus for another copy of Shadow Visions. I like the idea of DoA in this deck with high health minions, but another Shadow Visions will help us grab another SW: D, Dragonfire Potion, etc. when needed.
Hmmm, don't let Dragon Priest die, never
You put argus thinking about the board yeah? I've never seen any dragon decks use it, I would change for other copy of Shadow Visions and one of Shadow Essence because it'll be good to get Northshire Cleric,Priest of the Feast,Cobalt Scalebane,Bone Drake and even Primordial Drake for the taunt.
Seems that you really like Shadow Essence. To me, a 5/5 copy of any of those minions is hardly worth 6 mana, plus the chance of copying a vanilla 5/5 for 6 wouldn't be good. I could be wrong though!
I like Defender of Argus because we will have a lot of beefy mid ranged minions. DoA on a Twilight Drake, Priest of the Feast, Drakonid Operative etc. could be really good. Although, I do like your suggestion of possibly removing DoA for another copy of Shadow Visions.
It's not that I love Shadow Essence, it's just that in both situations it was the only think I was thinking at the moment, sorry for the "bad" impression, I don't think it's the best card or something like that xD
Haha no problem sir, you have been really helpful and provided insight on a lot of these decks. I value your opinion!
i think eternal servitude would be a better call than shadow essence. you are more likely to discover a desirable target (ideally bone drake or potf, but primordial, scale bane, and cleric are also good options), and it's cheaper.
Hi Poodris,
Thanks for your comment. Not a bad idea with Eternal Servitude. However, the number of targets are still somewhat slim. It's worth a shot though and at 4 mana it could have enough value.
Yeah Eternal Servitude isn't a bad card, it's worth a test, in the actual list I would only change one Defender of Argus for another Shadow Visions because it gets so much value from the elise packs, and even if you don't, you can still get a spell you need at the moment.
