Kinda had back luck with genesis and warriors in the past. Genesis is too clunky (read as too expensive) and ends up a dead card until you get both arcane giants to stick while Warriors is slightly better, but still just a touch outside the perfect mana slot. Plus both of those require you to not only have the giants but also a usable whirlwind prepped when you do, adding to the inconsistency of it all. Kinda runs into the classic otk worgen dilemma of using cards to clear or saving them for combo and I don't think you can afford that luxury at the meta's current pacing.
The pirate package is mostly to deck thin and to enable sleep with / tech'd execute on occasion. Point of the deck is to essentially self mill so you can go for infinite arcane giants and/or elise packs through dead man's hand loops. Also doesn't hurt that the newly released 3 drop adds into the "fill the board will minions to enable insane battle rages" sub theme the deck has.
