Oh my lordy, where do I start with this one.
Chromaggus is EASLY the hardest heroic boss i've have ever played. I figured since I couldn't find a good deck to use in the year of the mammoth, i'd make my own.
This deck is a variant of the OTK priest deck that is usually put against heroic chro. The only difference is you can not fit inner fire into the deck. Instead of targeting big minions with divine spirit, we use Lightspawn.
Other cards like Hozen Healer and Binding Heal. Are used to keep your burgly Lightspawn alive.
This is what a winning mulligan looks like.
This opening hand was my first big win against the guy.
MULLIGAN
You need a or both Radiant Elemental's in your opening hand to win. If you don't draw one by turn 2 restart.
Any early game cards will be good enough as long as you have an elemental.
LATE-GAME
Make sure by turn 9 you have a big Lightspawn on board and Alexstrasza in hand. Once you mostly have board control, fully heal your Lightspawn, play Alexstrasza, and slam face for 10+. There is no way you're getting through all 60+ health without Alex.
Broods
In order of importance to chromaggus, Blue, Black, Red, All the rest.
Hope this helps, have a gooooooood day.
I didn't even do this right and still won. Forgot the absence of Inner Fire and I buffed my Alexstrasza instead of the Lightspawn thinking I would draw or discover one. Oh well, kept the board clear and we both went into fatigue. Ysera's dreams kept returning Alex to my hand, so I could keep bringing my health back up to 15 and I finally won with 1 health remaining.
Good deck. Second attempt.
I think putting dragon fire potion in this deck was a troll attempt. The deck is ok besides that. Relies heavily on rng but that’s just the Chrom fight. Blizzard should fix the fight, but they’re too lazy.
Quick edit: I took out the dragonfire pots and added psychic scream and light bomb. It really helps if you fall behind and chrom goes all in on minions you can wreck him. I managed to psychic scream onyxia with 5 whelps plus another minion. Completely wrecked his deck
Thanks for the deck . Restart until radiant elemental . With 2 radiants and Lyra didn’t even need Alex. Tried using the Warlock discard deck to beat Chromag before this but no luck. This deck worked great.
glad i could help man
this deck worked soooooo well
thanks a lot!!!!!
np my dude
THANK YOU!!! This deck did the trick for me and I tried at least ten other decks in the last couple of weeks to no avail. The key for me at the end was keeping my Lightspawn alive by constant buffs. I was able to use Radiant Elementals to clear out the afflictions early by their lower cost and after that I was always able to get rid of them each turn. Binding Heals and Priest of the Feast kept me alive but it was down to the wire though, I only had 4 health left and wouldn't have survived the next turn. I had two Shadow Word Death which I was able to use in one turn on his Alexstrasza and on another 5 attack minion so that there were only whelps left. This was the turning point and gave me two turns to hit him with my Lightspawn at 20 each time. I needed 17 at the end to kill him, whew. I never drew my Alex, it was just one Lightspawn that I was able to keep buffing - I was lucky that he played very few high attack minions. It took about 15 tries with this deck but nothing like the time spent with other priest, warlock and warrior decks. Glad that boss is over with ;-)
WOW! Awesome man! Glad I could help!
Won with this deck second try, didn't even need lightspawn on board. Buffed a radiant early and it carried me to alex. I struggled with this for hours before trying this deck, big thanks, don't think its impossible at all with this build!
Thanks for the kind words!
I disagree with the harshing on this deck. Deck works fine. I don't think it's necessary to have Radiant in your first 2 turns. Even getting one by turn 5 or so is ok. use PW shield or a divine spirit on him to make sure he sticks around. Once you can cast away all the negative spells you are golden. Priest of the feast is what makes this deck work. Turns the negative spells into healing. You don't have to buff a lightspawn to win. I had him down to about 24 health before I drew alex and I finished him with alex alone. He's not too aggressive, stay ahead of the negative spells and you'll eventually grind him down.
Great in theory, but a deck that you have to constantly restart until you mulligan exactly the right 2 cards is a bit of a hassle, and let's not forget he has flamestrike, which will eliminate both Radiants in one go so you'll also need to muilligan/draw your PW:Shield in the first few rounds.
Sorry, but this is not a viable deck without hours to devote to a perfect opening hand and draw.
I totally agree man. There are very few decks that use only year of the mammoth cards. I had to make one that worked for me. Its unfortunate that it did take a while to beat him. I am simply sharing the deck that got me the win. I do honestly appreciate the critique.
With all due respect, I found this decklist http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/831592-heroic-chromaggus-easy-with-ungoro-and-karazhan to do much better than this priest list. Personally finishe Chromaggus on first try with this warlock
Should make a comment that priest of the feast not showing up here is an absolute shame.
agreed, im going to replace mind control with him
