Journey to Un'goro hasn't been out a week and the meta has exploded with all sorts of viable ladder grinding decks. It became pretty obvious which decks most people were going to play. Pirate warrior, quest rogue, quest mage, secret mage, aggro druid, and hunter are the 6 mos common builds. There are many hunter list our there and I tried them all with mixed results and none of them felt like they were able to deal with the spectrum of variance in the meta. So I deleted them all and started from scratch with a low cost option. This deck was built on stream and won its first 10 games taking me from 7-5/3 star in less then hour. After stream the deck dropped a few games but continued to climb.
Strategy:
The basic idea of deck is to play for tempo while pushing damage to your opponent face. It is important that you deny your opponent a board as much as possible, but not to the extent of removing your own board. Consider all options before acting. There are several explosive combinations in this deck that should be utilized, with some practice, and a small amount of luck you will be able to utilize these to great success.
Key Cards:
Golakka Crawler may be seen as a tech card and thus overlooked by many, but at its worse its a River Crocolisk and at its best its a Totem Golem that killed a pirate and with no down side. Even when you are not facing off against a pirate deck this card is a great 2 drop.
Crackling Razormaw is one of the most versatile cards in the decks. The ability to turn the lowest of minions into a possible big threat killer or making an already existing minion into a juggernaut of damage can never be overlooked. The amount of value that you can achieve because of this card is pretty damn high.
Vicious Fledgling is by far one of my favorite cards of this set. Many times playing this when your opponent has no board can easily spiral out of control. This card has the potential to completely snowball a game in your favor.
Houndmaster is probably the work horse of the deck. From adding a speed bump to your opponents plans, giving lethal value to a windfury adapt minion, or just making a very angry lion this card puts in some serious work. If I could take 4 I would.
Nesting Roc was a new addition to my designs and I was shockingly surprised by just how effective the card was. When you are able to play this on 5 and get taunt most decks like pirate warrior will just run out of gas trying to deal with it, or they will just concede.
Synergies:
Crackling Razormaw + Vicious Fledgling. This turn 5 play can set you up for some massive value. The most ideal adaptation will be stealth on your Vicious Fledgling to ensure it lives for a chance to go face and maybe pick up a windfury so it can adapt again.
Crackling Razormaw + Scavenging Hyena. Making a hyena into a strong minion is no great trick but being able to protect it with a stealth or possibly doubling its striking power is just insane value that should not be overlooked.
Knife Juggler + Alleycat. I cant tell you how many times on turn 3 I have been able to cause my opponent a great amount of disruption with this play. Quest rogue will have to deal with the knife juggler and if they are unable to they will easily get destroyed on turn 5.
Knife Juggler + Unleash the Hounds. This combo has saved my ass against quest rogues who got the god draw more times then I can count. Being able to get 5 shots plus damage has lead a many a reversals and victory.
Mulligan:
The mulligan for this deck is almost 100% the same for all match ups.
Alleycat, Golakka Crawler, Kindly Grandmother and Jeweled Macaw are all keeps.
Crackling Razormaw, Knife Juggler, Scavenging Hyena are ok to keep depending on if you have some of the other keep cards like Kindly Grandmother or Alleycat.
Video:
I like it so far after 5 games played at rank 10 3-2, but it just flows better than the other Hunter decks I have tried.
most of the time yes....The rest...well get some lube. It can shut down just about any deck except freeze mage and most variants of priest...Still trying to crack that one.
So, I'm back. Played 20 Games so far with this Deck and ended up 10-10 :/ 50% WR
Not overwhelmig...
But it may be because i'm a EU Player and faced 9(!) Taunt-Quest-Warriors in a row!
And as we SMOrcers all know: "Taunt is Cheat!"
Couldn't do anything great against them, they're simply outvalueing me by a lot.
Whirlwind or Ravaging Ghoul or Primordial Drake + Sleep with the Fishes or King Mosh and my "Tempo" is gone. :/
EDIT:
So, i looked around in the Comments at other similar Decks, and the People are all struggling very hard against lots of Taunt-Warriors atm. So i wasn't just me, who faced off so many of them xD
for the most part the match is a SMOrc or die kinda deal. burn them deny any life gain and just apply max pressure every turn. Board should not exceed 3 at any time though as 4 is the magic brawl number most look for. Though 3 is bare min.
Well, thanks for the Videos^^ But I've already seen them :D
(You know, i'm a subscriber of yours ;) )
Okay. You're pretty lucky in those match-ups.
My opponents tend to have a rigged Curvestone-Carddraw-Engine.
A huge Taunt every Turn... i simply cannot outvalue them.
But otherwise i was prettymuch playing the way you did there.
(Okay, except for keeping the Bow... i tend to go Face with it... must be a leftover habbit from the Pirate-Age ;) )
I guess i give this Deck another round^^
And as mentioned, i'm a Hunter-Main, and i've played all kinds of Hunter, i do know what i'm doing...
...most of the time xDD But in ~40% of the time, i play with intuition or what feels right.
But thank you for your response, i really appreciate it :D
I'll be back!
Greetingz
This issue has been coming up about ever 3rd match working on some options...Mostly hunters mark's deadly shots and tbk
Oh Chiv! :D
It's good to see a Deck from you again.
For Hunter being my Main-Class and the one i almost got golden, i really am experimenting right now for some valueable Deck.
But i haven't found the Unicorn-Hunter yet, to beat'em all :D
I tried your SMOrc-Version right now and got 4-0 atm. Looks good so far.
I'm gonna comeback later if i had at least 20 Games played, for a better Statistic to post.
I must consider, that the fun of playing this Deck is great! xD
(And it's even Better, if you're listening to this while playing:
https://listenonrepeat.com/?v=qIIOza9ZaXw#Epic_Sax_Guy_Cruzo_Remix)
I'm also considering to put at least 1 Flare in it, because the of Secret-/Quest-Mage's Ice Block.
Nothing is ever so frustrating as you have Ultra-Lethal on Board, but those Mage's are playing like 5 Ice Block. :(
That was one of the most weaknesses my other Decks struggled with. :/
Maybe i could cut of the Stegodon?
How often does he helped you so far? Serious Question.
Greetingz,
Mortimer
P.S.: Pls ignore any Grammar mistakes, for i'm not a native speaker.
btw. you messed up the "[/card]" on the Vicious Fledgling in your Syngery-Section ;)
I fixed the typo thank you....As for secret mage I have run into 3 of them with the deck and didnt have much issue with them as I was able to out value them most games. Key there is to hold your kill commands for possible post break damage. In general they all died by turn 9. As for music I listen to this playlist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbGJzQgsNhU&list=PL9EBfevqYw02BrnMCG72zt4FTK13ij2n0
Well, that Playlist thou :O Nice 1!
A bit cancer-ish but me don't unlike it xD if that makes any sense xDD
